Sunday morning we hiked into an abandoned copper mine. It was active in the early 1900 and closed around 1920. Whitehorse is surrounded by huge copper deposits. (Dog related pics from the hike are on Dog General board)
Some of the mine shafts are still open, but very dangerous, too dangerous to even consider going in them. We did pull some cool rocks out of the tailing piles.

The color in the rock face is from the copper and other minerals in the stone. It's breathtaking. The picture doesn't do it justice.
These last two are not from the mine site, but I like them and this is my last chance to post pics for at least a week!
