I pronounce it pet-ah, because ethical has the eh sound. I don't pronounce it like ee-thical.

It bothers me when people pronounce it pee-tah (pita bread?) because they must be pronouncing ethical weird.

I pronounce it Pee-tah. It's an acronym Pee, Eee, Tee, Ae. If someone asked me "what's the first letter of the word ethical" I'd say E, not eh. If that makes sense.

Acronyms are often pronounced as a word unto themselves, not pronouncing each letter as it is pronounced in the word it stands for.

For example, in medical transcription CABG is called "cabbage" when it stands for coronary artery bypass graft. The A in the acronym is pronounced A as in apple, not Ah.

Another example: SCUBA. (self-contained underwater breathing apparatus) the U stands for "underwater" but you don't say "Scubb-a"

Jessica is right. The correct pronunciation as far as I undertand it is "pita" like bread, for the reasons she stated. Shouldn't let things like that annoy you so much, or you'll be annoyed a lot in life by how people pronounce things.

I get annoyed by mispronunciations, but, only for about a split second, it's not like an entire day is ruined when I hear someone mispronounce shih tzu for example. But, I have always pronounced PETA like pita bread. I don't think I've ever heard anyone say it like pet-uh. And, I don't think I'd be annoyed by it, more surprised!

Pee-tah. Pet-ah seems completely wrong because, like K9soul said, you're pronouncing the letters of the acronym, not what the letters stand for.

You don't say ih-r-ess, you say eye-r-ess for the Internal Revenue Service since that is the way you say I, R, and S. You don't pronounce the I like you would if you said the whole word Internal
