I need PT prayers for Caramella & Stellina.
Their adopter picked them up last week. We gave them meds for Stellina's eye, which was not completely over this 'eye thing' that we had. Caramella was in perfect shape.
After one week of not improving, the adopter took them to the vet (one with not a good reputation) and they were given anti-viral drops (to be given every daytime hour-for two weeks)
At rescue, we were researching this med, and the director was informed.
(I thought it may be a mistake in dosage)In the info we found, it says that this:
Instill one drop of VIROPTIC Ophthalmic Solution, 1% onto the cornea of the affected eye every 2 hours while awake for a maximum daily dosage of nine drops until the corneal ulcer has completely re-epithelialized. Following re-epithelialization, treatment for an additional 7 days of one drop every 4 hours while awake for a minimum daily dosage of five drops is recommended.
If there are no signs of improvement after 7 days of therapy or complete re-epithelialization has not occurred after 14 days of therapy, other forms of therapy should be considered. Continuous administration of VIROPTIC for periods exceeding 21 days should be avoided because of potential ocular toxicity
Now, this morning, the adopter calls me and says she is seeing something startling on Caramella's eye. Sounds like she is describing a corneal ulcer.
I told her, if they were my cats, I would suspend the med, until she can get a second opinion, from a 'better' vet.
Please send positive thoughts out for dear Caramella. I was really attached to her, and she has had a hard week, I think she was missing me. (she never acted like the kitten I knew, but I knew she'd have to get used to a new mama)
She's such a sweet angel baby. Pray for the health of her sight and her eye.
