EDIT: Bumped up for those who have not read about how Lucas became part of my family
In 1995, as I arrived at my work place, I saw a kitten in the street looking into a small drain pipe. I thought,"Oh no, he's going to crawl in there!" I worried as I parked the car that I would not reach him in time. But much to my surprise, he did not go in the hole, instead he was just sitting on the front stoop of where I worked. He just sat there. He was tame and friendly, not to mention, cute as anything, so I picked him up. I work at a pet groomers so we had the place to keep him until someone came looking. I KNEW someone would come looking because he was so loveable. Not like a feral stray.
Well, unbelievably, no one came. After work I combed the area but the only people that recognized him said they only knew him as a stray they were feeding. It was fall and there was no way he was going from the shelter of my hands back to the street, so home he came. Now I had just taken in a new cat 1 year ago, so this was to be temporary. I'd find him a home and things would go back to normal.
WELLLLLLLLL even though he was only a 6 month old 5 lb kitten he took An immediate liking to my rather large orange male Y.Lee. I named him Lucas and he would torment Y.Lee constantly and Y.Lee loved every minute of it. They grew to be the best of friends to the end. (we lost Y.Lee this year).
We love Lucas very much.
Thanks for listening.
Add to the story: the winter of that year was colder and snowier than ANY year we ever had. Thank God Lucas found me.
