My dear, nawtee Payton. . .

is dead. I don't know what happened.

I'll explain more as I compose myself.

    He was just a baby!

    Edit to update****

    -------------------------------------------------------------------
Last night, we were doing some yard work. We decided to let the cats out and let them enjoy the day. This would have been Payton's first time outside without his leash. All was well, he was being a good boy, staying in the yard, etc. While we were doing the yard work, I guess we got distracted and didn't notice that Payton had left the yard. I thought that I had "catproofed" the yard and that he would be able to get out. I guess I yet again underestimated the power and inginuity of my monkey boy. We packed our things up and were getting ready to come inside when we noticed he was gone, I don't know how long he'd been gone. I came inside to get clean up and was ready to hit the pavement to look for him when our doorbell rang. It was our neighbor. He asked if I had a gray cat with an orange collar. I said yes, he said he's over here by my car, and he's dead.

My first thought was that he was hit by a car. We went to go get him, but he wasn't mangled or torn up. His upper body was very stiff, but his hind quarters weren't. He was still warm. I think he got into something poisonous. What else would make his upperbody so stiff so soon? He couldn't have been gone for more than an hour. I hate to think that someone did it intentionally.

My poor baby is gone. I don't think I'd had him a year. He was nawteer than the dickens, but I still loved him.

Funny thing is that he actually let me hold him the night before last. He NEVER would sit still for 2 seconds let alone let me give him lovies, but that night, he just laid there and looked at me. I guess that's the best gift he could have given me before he went to the bridge.

He was taken from me way too soon. He was barely over a year old and it would have been a year this week that I brought him home. I have prayed for God to tell me why he took my little man from me so soon. This hurts so badly. I didn't want to let him out in the first place.

    What horrible news.

And my own personal nightmare (finding a cat dead for no apparent reason).

i am so, so truly sorry to hear your v.sad news. I do know how much pain you will be feeling just now. I have lost a kitty of a similar age in similar circumstances and it is completely and utterly devastating. I always tell myself that maybe god had his reasons and my wee boy would have otherwise endured some terrible suffering later in life. Who knows....

Many many thoughts and prayers on their way to you xx

Did you take Payton to your vet? I hope you can get some answers...

Cats are such fussy eaters that it is difficult(though not impossible) for them to get poisoned.

Poor nawtee boy...I hope you find out soon.

    hugs and prayers
