    Mishi to white coats

<sigh> again. Yesterday he all of a sudden went into distress while using the litter box. I've never seen that big boy's tail down, flat against his rear. He was yowling and growling at me and obviously in pain so off we went to the ER. Sunday afternoon at the All Animals ER was an adventure as Mishi was the only cat and he was bigger than most of the dogs there. The vets there could find nothing wrong - he bladder was not swollen and everything else checked out normal so they sent us home, but I knew he wasn't himself as he continued to cry at the litter box and his tail remained glued to his butt. He wasn't eating or drinking anything either, but I was able to get him to take a few sips of water with some gentle coaxing.

This morning he was obviously still in pain so off we went to his normal vet. Although he wasn't blocked, they could tell that the bladder stone that we know about is causing problems. They were able to express his bladder and the result was bloody with some pus, so we know there's infection in there somewhere. He's coming home on antibiotics. At least he's not blocked so we could avoid THAT expense, but the poor guy has probably been in a lot of pain.

I can't wait to pick him up this evening.

Oh poor boy Mishi, I hope your antibiotics kick in soon and you don't hurt anymore.

That ER vet should have known something was wrong

However I am glad it's not a kidney message, just an old stone.

    All the best for Mishi.

Ditto! That was my first thought as I read the title and my heart sank. Poor Mishi, I sure hope the antibiotics kick in soon. Is there anyway to get rid of the stone - without surgery - so it doesn't cause any more problems?

{{{hugs}}} to both of you and best wishes for a full speedy recovery!

As I recall, the vet wasn't recommending surgery when they first discovered the bladder stone(s). I'm going to talk to the her and see what alternatives there are. Unfortunately, I'm BROKE and can barely afford even this financial setback right now.

He was doing SO well and then he just crashed. I know that's how it goes with kidney kats.

    Yay!

The vet just called and said Mishi's blood work came back completely normal, which is extremely good news considering the condition of his kidneys. The results of the urinalysis also showed no infection going on; there was blood in the urine, but that was because of the irritation from the stone, so my Big boy should be fine..

Poor Mishi. It is good to know the blood work was good, though, that is a relief. But I would be worried about that stone. Aren't they afraid he COULD block due to it?

    Still hanging on

Mishi isn't out of the woods yet. Although he did eat, drink and pee last night, I can tell he's still in a lot of pain. He came home on Amoxycillin; thankfully he's always been easy to medicate. I also have some pain meds for him from the last time he was in the ER.

One shocking thing on his report was that his weight is supposedly down to only 9 lbs! I've got a call in to the vet to see if he can be rechecked as I can't believe he's dropped 4 lbs. in a few months and nobody commented on it yesterday. In fact, the All Animals ER weighed him at 13.5 lbs. the day before, so something is awry.

Something tells me my big boy isn't going to be around too much longer. I don't know why, but I just know and it makes me very Of course, all your prayers and good thoughts help. I'm just going to try and keep him comfortable for as long as he has left on this side of the bridge.

I'm glad things are going better, but at the rest of the report. Something defnitely has to be wrong if he weighed 13.5 lbs one day and 9 the very next.

Hopefully the pain meds will make him a little more comfortable. Poor little Mishi. Gentle smoochies to him and {{{hugs}}} to you.

Well his regular vet finally called me back. She concurred that there's probably something awry with their scale or how he was weighed - perhaps his paw was off or something. I know I can tell that he weighs more than Mitzi and she's a tubbette at 11 lbs.

The vet said she would recommend ultra-sounding him again before considering surgery to see if the stone had grown at all from the last time they spotted it on ultrasound. From what they saw last time, the stone was way too small to consider surgery as they didn't want to open him up and have to poke around for something that they may not find. As all his blood and urine tests came back normal they have nothing to go on as to what this stone is made up of - there are no crystals or anything like that to give a clue as to what we're dealing with. I can't afford an ultrasound right now; I will check with IMOM to see if they might be able to help out.

I will continue with the Amoxycillin and pain meds as needed. He will be rechecked in about three weeks.
