Help! Layne's Peeing is annoying my wife!!

Hi All!!

We have 4 male neutered cats, (Basil,Martin,Layne,Tron). The 3 oldest we've had for 3 years, we just inherited Tron 9 months ago. Layne is the cat with the problem... He started peeing in specific spots around the house. He's fixed and when we found him peeing we've noticed that his back arches, his tail flicks and the pee shots straight out.??!! The vet diagnosed it as a UTI and we've been giving him anti-biotics for 2 weeks. He has 1 more pill to take and just tonight he pulled his pee tactics again. He's a father's boy cat, very sweet and my wife want's to get keep him in the basement, which I denied... Is there any way to stop this???<<,,,/// I've heard about rubbing his nose in his on urine mark mixed with vinegar, any Help!!!!!!

Has this happened just since Tron came into the house?

Also, check with your vet about changing the food for a while - keeps infections and crystals down.

Others here have more experience, so will help you more. I have heard good things about pet behaviourists here too.

THis just recently happened about 2 months after Tron came to the house. All the cats get along really well. I did have 1 other thought, I changed from Iams Ocean Fish cat food to Iams multiple cat formula... I think that the peeing started before this.

First of all Welcome to Pet Talk & enjoy all the talks & pictures..

Second of all sounds like he is marking his territory = since he started after new cat arrival.. Some cats do this anyway with their age.. (Is this a older cat?) You can buy spray from your pet stores to spray on floor & walls & furniture so he wont spray due to cats dont like the smell.. Make sure your litter boxs are kept clean also.. That can cause them to do this too.. Do keep getting your baby checked by your Vet too.. Hope this helps & good luck..

Also - get some Nature's Miracle, and go over areas where kitty has peed. If you moved in fairly recently, were there animals there before?

NM contains enzymes that eat up the organic bits that cause odor. You may not be able to smell it - but your cat can.

Your vet should be able to help you with behavior modification. You could use Feliway, a pheronome spray, and I know a lot of cat people on PT have found this works. If the behavior continues, the vet can prescribe anti-anxiety medication, though it takes a few months to really start working.
