In Loving Memory of my Mom

I know we don't have a "Memorial" place for humans, so I'm putting this here.

31 years ago today my Mom, Joanne Ploss, died at the age of 44 from lung cancer that traveled to her brain. I remember it as if it were yesterday (I was only 19). I didn't get to say goodbye to her as they took her out of my house at 2 a.m. on an ambulance stretcher.

Mom, you were my best friend, confidante and mentor. You made me laugh when I was sad, taught me everything I know about life. I only wish I was closer to CT so I could commemorate your passing by placing flowers on your grave.

Rest in peace Mom. I know you're near me because I get signs every once in a while. I only wish you lived long enough to meet your granddaughter Amy. She is the spitting image of you.

    Love and hugs,

    Donna

Beautiful tribute Donna. {{{HUGS}}} to you on this sad anniversary. As the others have said, she is watching over you.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand and strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming WOO HOO - What a Ride!

{{{Hugs}}} Donna - what a beautiful tribute to a beautiful Mum who died much too young.

I'm sure she's looking down, so proud of her wonderful daughter - and sending her love xxxx

Beautiful tribute to your dear mother. As others have said, I'm sure she is watching over you, and she knows how dearly you love her. It can never be easy to lose a mother, but losing her at so young an age to a disease like that is truly tragic.

    Rest in peace Joanne.

    Mothers

    Our mothers make us,
    raise us, teach us,
and then, at least the best ones,
    let us go.

    Then,
    sometimes much too soon,
    we must return the gift
    and let them go,
    sometimes all at once,
    sometimes bit by painful bit.

    But, just as they
did not completely let us go,
    still worrying in secret
when we were silent too long,
or made choices they didn't understand
    still loving us
    despite silence, or physical distance
    remembering our birthdays
when we weren't paying attention ourselves

We, too, will not let go.
We will keep their love with us
keep a smile, a bit of laughter
    a half-remembered (heart-remembered) lullaby
    And all they taught us,
    intentionally or not

We will forever be our mother's daughters
every bit as much as we are their free, grown children
And in the shape of our eyes, perhaps,
the line of a jaw, the timbre of voice
and the stories we tell their grandchildren

We carry our mothers with us, for everyone to see.
(And marvel at: they live on, still.
    Death never wins.)
