Family spokesman says George McGovern has died at 90

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - A family spokesman says former U.S. Sen. George McGovern, the Democrat who lost to President Richard Nixon in 1972 in a historic landslide, has died this morning at the age of 90.
ETA: What a man! The full story at the link below is very interesting.
A spokesman for Mr. McGovern's family, Steve Hildebrand, told The Associated Press by telephone that Mr. McGovern died peacefully at 5:15 a.m. Sunday at a hospice in Sioux Falls, surrounded by family and lifelong friends. The family had said in a statement late last year that Mr. McGovern had become unresponsive while under hospice care.

Rest in peace, Senator McGovern, a fine man indeed.
I meant," said Ipslore bitterly, "what is there in this world that truly makes living worthwhile?"
    Death thought about it.
"Cats," he said eventually. "Cats are nice."
