Norwegian children swim with freed whale Keiko.

Read the story in English from Aftenposten, Famous whale 'Keiko' swims into fjord.

I want to swim with Keiko! Ann - you're a lot closer to Norway than I am! Think you'd get a chance?

I wasn't aware that Keiko was freed yet. How wonderful that he is!!! I followed his story from the Free Willy movies and his move back to Iceland. I would love to swim with him too!!!! I sure hope he isn't too lonely and meets up with some other whales real soon!

Wow, that is SO cool!!! I too followed Keiko's release with much joy, and I remember passing around papers for people in my old school to sign which I then sent in to some foundation for Keiko's release!

I too hope he meets up with some other orcas soon (I can't stand calling them killer whales, so I always call them orcas JSYK)!

Karen, I wish I could! Not only would I get to see Keiko if I went, but Norway is a beautiful country... But I can't

    Oh...

I wonder if Keiko's lonely? Sounds like he's missing human contact.

I too followed this story this morning on the New York Times.

The link was gone before I could forward it to Pet Talk.

They said Keiko does miss human contact and that he is swimming right up to boats. At first people were afraid, but soon they were in the water swimming with him and some even climbed on his back.

He swam a long way to get to Norway!

I feel so bad for Keiko, it does sound like he misses people, and that's not good! (As much as I would LIKE to swim with him ...)

AftenPosten has a sad and confusing follow up story about opinions of what should happen to Keiko.

in a way this story is sad too. dont get me wrong, i am happy he is free but for some reason i am incredably sad too. The article quoted the guy saying "willy" was starved for attention. y does man have to ruin so much. y did they ever have to take willy and make him into a trained puppet. was he swimming alone instead of laching onto a pod??? i dont know y it makes me so sad but it does. once they took poor will ( i cant think of him as keiko yet) and made it so he no longer knew how to be a free whale then they souldnt have released him although im glad they did. call me a hypocritte if u want but i just cant explain my fence sitting feeling. doesnt that story make any of u as sad as i feel???

As much as I like to see animals in the wild...

you have to wonder what's best for Keiko. Seems like it might be life in captivity. But I don't know much about the situation.

That follow-up story was so sad Maybe it's one thing for them to want to re-capture him if he gets too lonely or starve, but for them to even CONSIDER killing him cause he disturbs the local fishing... That just makes me so mad!

I hope things work out for little Keiko soon. He deserves some happiness after all he's been through.

I think a lot of people were upset at the previous story. Today's Afterposten story is Keiko is safe in Norway.
