Today's Pets are (finally) up!
Today's Pets are Up!
My goldfish went belly up!
Up they are!
I just updated the days on the homepage. Zeplyn and Ping Pong and Jett will be today's Dog, Cat and Pet respectively, and I will post new honorees tomorrow. It being Friday the 13th and the world being a bit crazy about the novel corona virus, etc, made today difficult.
So sorry. And please don't chide me for being sorry, I am. I know you all understand.
Today's pets have been up for a while, life being busy et al. Sadly, we lost one of our two goslings to cold and hunger - i.e. inexperienced parents. Sooner - the survivor - is now in the house with a heat source, okay so far, just skinny.
So sorry about the gosling, Karen. My deepest sympathy to you all.

First time logging on to the computer all day, I will update the pets tomorrow.
Tragically, Kathmandu has killed two of the kittens - his own progeny - so Marigold and the babies are now in a protected space. So just five babies left, they are all adorable and a week and two days old now. Pictures soon, I promise. His neutering Sir Jury is scheduled for April 14th, and cannot come soon enough.
Sooner (the surviving gosling) has a turkey poult buddy - named Goose - for company.
Please stay safe everyone, wash your hands and be mindful.
Humans here are all healthy so far, those most community activities are cancelled. The Post Office is open, though, so was very busy today.
That's awfully sad. So very sorry to hear about the kittens. 😿🤧🙀💕
I am so sorry about the kittens!:(
And I am glad that everybody around you is healthy.
I am sorry to hear of the kittens. Hope Momma cat and her other kids are safe.
Here in Switzerland , we have complete lockdown. Only Grocery stores, Pharmaciy, Postoffice , Banks are open.
Keep safe
I'm so sorry about the kittens, Karen. That's good that the rest of the family have been moved to safety.
Best wishes that everyone stays safe and healthy!

I'm curious, Karen... Why did you decide to let Kathmandu and Marigold breed, rather than have them neutered/spayed long ago?
If you wanted some new furry faces around, I'm sure there are dozens, hundreds, more, of homeless cats around in rural Vermont, any of whom would be delighted with the opportunity for safe shelter and food and love.
Here is an extensive listing of cat shelters by county in Vermont: http://cat.rescueshelter.com/Vermont
Since Vermont is a long, narrow, vertical state, I don't know which of these places might be near you, but surely you wouldn't have far to go. And Mr. Google has many more listings under "vermont cat shelters," of course.
Meanwhile, my Girls and I are sending warm wishes for health and safety to the new kitty family and all your family (all species).

Today's pets are finally up, and Phesina, will answer your questions a little later once I get home.
Phesina, see http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?t=193552 for why we let them have a litter. You know me, and know we would not have done so recklessly.
Today's pets are finally up, amidst Corona Virus preparation, etc. Please see one of Pet Talk's own ...
Today's Pet, Dog and Cat are up.
Heavy snow to start the day, now rain. Happy first day of spring!
Spring for sure! Miss Maran - one of last spring's baby chicks, now grown up and laying herself - scored the season's first frog I have seen, and was defending it from all comers today!
And today's Dog, Cat and Pet are up as well.
Thanks, Karen. I saw the original post. I just wondered why you decided to create new lives when there are already so many out there in desperate need of homes that just aren't there for them. Did you adopt Kathmandu and Marigold together?
We're sending all our loving good wishes for health and safety and warmth and love to the little babies and all the family, all species, especially during these troubling times.

Yes we did. We looked around locally, but they were the only ones with kittens available, and training from kittenhood not to hunt birds is critical on our farm.
Thank you, all the kittens have prospective homes, more homes than we have kittens.
Just getting to log in today, at nearly 5:30 pm, as I ended up having to work for the person who normally works the Post Office on Fridays and Saturdays, as she feels like she's coming down with a cold, and decided to be smart and not risk that it is Covid-19, especially as she was leaving Seattle just as they announce the outbreak there.
Sigh, I update the days of the week on the home pages, and will restart with new pets tomorrow.
Ha ha! Training kittens not to hunt birds 😂🤣😂🤣🙄 Good luck with that 🙈
Today;s46547 pets are up.
That last post was done with Mulligan's assistance, hence the extra characters!
Today's Dog, Pet and Cat of the Day are all up!
It has been a crazy busy day, so rather than post today's pets so late in the day, I will restart the pages tomorrow.
Bless everyone who is sheltering in place, and being smart about social distancing. Most of the Post Office patrons are pretty good about it, thankfully, as we are an "essential service" and still open.
Today's Pets are up at last! Sorry for the gap, folks, stay well!
Today has been a strange and sad day. We may have lost three ducks to predators, since Dusky cannot be trusted outside on his own without being tied up right now, so is not patrolling the property at night. And for hours we though we also lost Mulligan to a predator, as he was missing for many hours. Thankfully, he somehow got locked in the basement, where we almost never go - it's a star hawk aviary, so Kermit is down there once a day or so to feed and tend them, but hadn't even been down yet today. But all is well with Mulligan.
I will not be updating the pages, I worked today at the Post Office, so am already behind in everything, and I need to attend to things at the farm. It's very stressful being the only one there, and worrying about keeping everyone safe, bleach-wiping things, and dealing with people from other states where the virus is widespread comig up and opening a PO box here.
So relieved Mulligan is okay - he snuck outside when I left for work this morning, so we will have to make sure that never happens again.
Dear Karen, I'm so sorry for your loss of your beloved ducks. How good that Mulligan turned up after you'd thought he was lost, too. Stay inside now, Mulligan!
You have an awful lot to take care of and look after now. Take whatever time you need for those important tasks, and get back to Pet Talk when you are able. We're all sending along loads of love and encouragement and warm wishes and hopes.

Galaxy and Sparkler and Pat
Oh no! So sorry to hear this, Karen. So many tragic losses recently.:( Thankfully Mulligan was found, safe and sound!
It sure sounds like you have your hands full, Karen, what with having to care for all of the animals, on top of working at the Post Office under such dire circumstances. Maybe suspending posting the pets for a while would be a good idea. Most people right now are overwhelmed/busy with dealing with COVID19 and would understand, and I'm sure you could do with a bit less stress too.
Sending love and encouragement to you all! Be safe!
Karen, are you raising hawks in the basement? Those are birds of prey, you know.
Thanks or understanding. Turns out we did not lose at least one of the ducks we thought we did, so I am still holding out hope for the other two. And Mulligan has not been allowed out ever since, even if he gets annoyingly clingy and needs to lie on my keyboard as I work!
I will get today's Pet, Dog, and Cat up within the hour.
The pets are up.
Thank you, Karen! I'm in awe that you still find time to honor all the animals in people's lives. We appreciate it very much!
Thank you!
Crazy busy day today, so will update the pets tomorrow, just changing the dates on the homepage now.
We have new equipment - a plastic window guard now between the customers and myself, so that's more precautions being taken at local post offices. And my coworker tested negative for Covid-19, so she is okay to work this week.
