How old were your dogs when they started graying around the muzzle? Max will be 5 years old in April, which is early middle-age for a basset, and he is already starting to go gray around his muzzle. Just curious.

Franklin was 3 when he started to grey. He'll be 6 next month. Sleet is 12 and still has no grey on her!
Just like people! I started getting greys when I was 18 :(Quote:

Umm...Shadow was about 7 I think.
Kodie is only 2 and has some on his chin. Lucy has no greys yet.
Lady will be 6 in the sprin and has had some grey around her muzzle for a while now. She just looks like she got her chin too close to the milk she was drinking.
Sadie has always had some white on her muzzle, but it has gotten more prominant inthe last year or so. She was 5 in October. Cincy is starting to get a few white hairs. She turned 4 in September.
Hmm, I can't tell, both of them are already white around the muzzle. Star will be 9 in Jan, though, and I see other changes in her face. That's funny, I was just wonderiing today if she would get more grey!
Thanks for the replies. I was thinking about this earlier today, and it dawned on me that I grew up with Australian cattle dogs (already gray) and my other childhood dogs were white or mostly white. I guess that's part of the reason I had wondered if this was early. :)
Tia started when she was 5, she just turned 6 in September and she's starting to get a lot of grey throughout her face. I'm not sure when Winston started as we got him this year and they others don't have any grey yet.
Mandy I'm sure is graying, but she is white so you cannot see it. I do not remember for Buttons and Retread. Nova and Luka are still too young to gray.
I am not sure, but I think Sheba did not start getting grey till
around 7 and Rocky around 1 or 2.
Frisk started greying when he was about 2 or 3... more toward 3. Ethan hasn't started greying yet.
5 or 6 years old i noticed that his nose fuzzies were standing out more
Belgians typically develop a "frost muzzle" at about a year of age, so that's about when Visa got her's.
Keegan just turned 4 in September and I noticed it within the last year. :(
I think Cody was around 8, but Logan is showing signs of gray. It could be part of her mixed breed. She's only around 4. I figure in a few years we'll be a matched pair!
Penny started going grey at a young age she was about 2 years old, her little head is almost all grey now and she will be 8 on Christmas day. Theodore is 3 and he is just starting to get a few grey hairs around the muzzle.
Clover has been going grey since she was about 4, her lips have quite a few grey/ white hairs now, she is 7 years old. And my poor little bubby Elvis is starting to go grey already and he is only 2 years old :(.
I my opinion part of the reason some dogs grey earlier than others can be due to stress levels.
My dog Toby that lives at my parent’s house started turning grey when she was around 2. She has been hit by a car when she was 10 months old and suffered a severely broken leg requiring surgery. Then a year later tore her ACL and had another surgery.
Buddy who is under consent stress started turning grey when he was 2, only a year after I adopted him.
Sierra who is 4 has just started getting a little grey in her muzzle. Just on one side under her nose.. it looks kind of funny!
Does anyone else think it may have anything to do with stress and/or trama?
6 years old and none at all. I am pretty sure he just finished maturing emmotionally last year.
Murph is so light, if he had Grey I wouldn't really notice it, which is why he doesn't look his age, 15 years old.
No Grey on Oz or Gull. They're both still very young, 3 and 1/2 and almost 2.
It seems like Maddie started getting Grey on her muzzle around 8 or 9. But around 10 years old, her muzzle as well as the top of her head, started turning Red. Cairns coat color is never a static thing.
Par...
Nanook is white, either his grey hairs are white instead or he has none and he's 15.
Raustyk is almost 8 and if I remember right she was about 5ish when first started to get a little grey around the muzzle.
Autumn was 3 or 4 when you could really notice, Pepper was 8 or 9.

Then exploded all over his face when he was 6. Big change eh?

Sylvia was only 2 years old when she started getting grey, but she is all black. She is only 2 1/2 now :). Harley is 3 years old and Morty is only one, but we will never be able to tell on either of them because Har is white and Mort is blonde and white. Jimmy has a little grey beard and he's about 3 years old. He's only been with us a short time, but he had a rough life until I rescued him. God only knows when he got his grey. (come to think of it, it might even be part of his coloring  )
Kia was 5 when I noticed her muzzle looked more white than in past photos.
Buster's muzzle was already a bit grey when I got him at age 6 (he's 10 now). Charlie is 7 and just recently started to get a little grey on the makings above his eyes.
None of my girls are grey yet. Bitsy is 5, Nacey is 2, and Nova is 1.
