Have you ever rescued from a shelter, pound, or rescue group?
Have you ever rescued from a shelter, pound, or rescue group?
of course most of us here have and do.
I don't like to use the word "rescue". She was never in danger of being put to sleep. Her foster mom would have kept her until her last breath. She was never in peril. I didn't rescue her- I adopted her :) I always put emphasis on "adopt" when people ask me that question.
No I haven't, and I regret it!:( My next dog will be a rescue!:)
Thats awesome!! Hope things go well!Quote:

Roscoe and Katie are from shelters and Belle was a stray kitten. IMO rescue or adopted animals make some of the best pets - once they feel comfortable they become fiercly loyal. They can be a lot of work, but they have the biggest rewards :D
I have adopted one kitty from the Humane Society. She wasnt in danger or anything, since our HS in a no kill one. But she had allergies and was sick a lot, but I loved her, so we adopted her. She was so sweet. We adopted her, because my old cat had disappeard and she had been gone for 2 months, so my mom desided I could get another cat. But, someone called and told us that they had our cat, that disappeard, 200 miles away  so we went and got her, and we had to rehome the cat I adopted, so she is living with an older couple, with many other kitty friends :)
Mandy came from the shelter and Luka came from the humane society. Nova was from a breeder.
Yes, my beloved Patches came from a rescue organization.
But THEY rescued and I ADOPTED. Patches was a magnificent female calico kitty. She was already six months old so they were happy that I chose her over some of the cute kittens.
yes, Niņo had not been heavily looked at and he had about a week left at the shelter
Absolutely! All of my animals came as a rescue of some kind. All of my kitties were rescued from the street, and my dog Priya came from the animal shelter where I was volunteering. In fact, I was there the day she came in, and that night I just couldn't stop thinking about her, so the next day I went to the shelter and brought her home! :D
Rescued pets make the best pets! ;)
**hugs**
Both of my dogs are from a shelter. One of my cats I took off of the street and the other I got from a coworker that doesn't have a good track record with cats so I consider her 'rescued' also.
Yep, we got Grant from our local shelter. Thank goodness it's a no kill shelter.
Spot was rescued from a shleter in very sense of the word. He was literally on the table to be PTS, when the the girl with him started crying. The shelter manager gave her one more day to find him a home, and long story short, after a 500+ mile round trip, I brought him home and have never regretted it for a minute.

I got them at the "nth" hour....the night before they moved. As of then, they had no home so I don't know what would have happened to them if I had not seen their ad a couple of days before. When I retire, I will be getting an adult dog from a shelter and maybe a kitty or two.
That's so awesome of you to have taken him in on that short of notice!Quote:

Lady, our neurotic mutt, was from a shelter.
No, I've never gotten a pet from a shelter or rescue group. I still think that I "rescued" some of my animals though.
All three of mine are from shelters, of course a friend of mine was fostering Casey and I got to meet her before she was ready, but we did adopt through the shelter. My horse was a rescue case, pretty much, even though I did purchase her. We are thinking of adopting another dog through a shelter too.
All three of mine are from the local shelter/pound.
Simba "lived" in the shelter for 4 months, he was overlooked many times and probably would have been killed very soon. They already had another dog in his kennel with him while the other dogs got their own.
Kiara barked at everyone except for my dad and I.
I think Nala would be the only one who would have gotten snatched up the next day if we didn't take her. She was with her littermates and they were all playful... playful puppies go like hotcakes in shelters!
No, all of my dogs have been pretty much the last of a litter that nobody wanted but not from a shelter/rescue group. I plan to get my next husky from a rescue group though.
Thank goodness for her tears and thank you for making that long trip. I remember when you brought Spot home. :)Quote:

Payson came from animal control, however he had been tagged by S.A.F.E. (saving animals from euthanasia). Everyday they walk through and tag animals that they feel are adoptable, if they don't get adpoted through animal control then they foster them until a home is found.
Tibby came from a no kill/no cage shelter and Corkscrew was adopted from a shelter and then went though many homes, the last home was going to take him to the humane society so I decided to adpot him.
no, but our american bulldog is coming from a rescue organization
yes!!! Batman is froma rescue group :D
Yes, Misty was adopted from the SPCA and Jack was a stray we took in. The rabbits (except Jack) all came from breeders and Squeekers came from a family who couldn't keep her anymore.
Yes! Niki and two of my cats are from the Humane Society, Bozy is from the ARPH and Buddy came from a high kill shelter. I am also fostering a Border Collie that came from a high kill shelter in Utah. Cody is the only pet that I have ever purchased and believe you me I will never do that again.
I have a few snakes I have managed to basically sneak out of a local animal shelter with the help of a friend who volunteers there, since the shelter automatically puts down any reptiles that come in, no matter how healthy, adoptable, or endangered. One of my cats was 'rescued' from life as a stray, and I rescued my other one when I saw him thrown from a moving vehicle out into traffic. My dog was thrown over my fence as a sick puppy too small to be away from his mom. But the only animals I have that are technically from a rescue are a sweet little pair of guinea pigs that came from a cavy rescue that was no-kill, so they were the only ones who didn't really need to be rescued.
Zeke and Shadow are from the HS
I found Pumpkin outside. So I guess I rescued her.You need another spot in that poll for rescue for outside :)
I agree seeing as many of us have rescues from the streets. ;) The vast majority of mine were either feral kittens I trapped, or ones in danger of being dumped. I have a weakness for special needs animals, and as they are not easily adoptable...those became my 'keepers'. :) Healthy adoptable ones I send off for adoption at Petsmart, and some of the feral cats are TNR. Really the only animal I rescued from a shelter is my very special and much loved Kirby. He was in the backroom at a kill shelter waiting with his 3 littermates for the vet to examine them. I spotted Kirby & his lovely white sister and told the staff I really wanted them, only to be looked at like I was nuts! One worker said "why do you want a deformed kitten when so many healthy ones are put down"? I told her nobody else would want them, and I already had my dear rescued RB boy Willy at the time also with "radial aplasia". I got a call a few days later asking if I still wanted Kirby. The vet (who is my vet as well) had looked the kittens over, and put in a good word for me, and Kirby became my little prince. Sadly his sister was put down as she had a runny eye. I would have taken her in a heartbeat as well. :( Kirby has been very healthy, and has crash pads all over the bedroom to cushion his landings. ;)Quote:

All of our kitties come from shelters. I'm glad to see that no one, so far, has voted "Too Risky". What would be the risk?
Kuhio98, you have no idea how often, when I suggest people consider shelters as part of their pet search, I hear "No, animals are usually in the pound for a reason."
Yeah, they're there for a reason. That reason is typically because they are good, adoptable pets who have been horribly let down by their inadequate 'masters'.

Yes! I have one that I rescued from the pound right now.
Both Melani and Ethan were adopted. Melani was just a kitten, but she was the runt, and wasn't getting enough to eat. And Ethan was one of those cases where he was already full grown and had behavioral issues, and no one wanted him except us. :D
If I ever get another dog or cat, I'll definately adopt again.
Kia came from a Humane Society. The cats were strays I took in.
Yes! Our INKA was found in the fields by my sister-in-law. She was very ill and exhausred. My SIL sent me an e-mail with a picture of Inka, with the question: "YOU WANNA CAT ??" We thought about it for a minute, and told her: YES!!.

MAYA was rescued by a local shelter. When Our dear Sydney passed away, we went there to look for a cat. That's how Maya found us!!
