My sister sent me this link in an email. You type in an address and it shows you a map with all convicted offenders. They are represented by different color boxes depending on the offense. If you click on the box it will show you a picture of the offender.

I logged in my brother's address in Mass. and came up with nothing.
If you put in my address in Los Angeles - what a shocker! My area is filled with little red squares.

My state's not there yet. :( Fortunately our county's website also as a sex offender finder. We have a few but no level 3s.........yet.

Nevada isn't on there yet...but it will be interesting to see if there are any registered offenders in my neighborhood (I live about a block away from the Police Station)

That is so creepy! I put my address in and there were lots of squares in and around the area! Why are there so many sickos out there? I just don't understand! I noticed that a few of them had multiple offenses. When will enough be enough? :eek:

Whew, none in my neighbor and only 1 or 2 in the same city. However, there are A LOT in 2 towns over. :eek: Clearwater Beach, very populated areas and most are right near the beach. :(
Wow, that's so sad. :( You know, one thing that always gets me, as far as totally judging these people as I click on each of the little boxes...I had a friend in Texas who would come up as a sex offender if you did a search like this near his home. What's sad about it, though, is that he commited his crime about twenty years ago, when he was about 19. He had sex with his 16-year-old girlfriend (whom he married later), and, the parents pressed charges. It just makes me wary of judging all of these people without knowing what they actually did. I don't know, after meeting Romeo (yeah, that was his real name!), it really made me look at it differently. :( I mean, some of them say blah blah something with someone under 16 years old, and, that's pretty obvious that it wasn't consensual. But, just saying minor doesn't necessarily make them a criminal, without knowing more about it. Blech. I have friends that have a sex offender as their next door neighbor. He's married with kids. I don't know his story, though, he could be like Romeo. :( Thanks for posting the site, though, Laura.
I guess I see where they are actually splitting the crimes up...does it specify what they consider a child? I mean, is "child" different from "minor?" Same with rape...it may have been consensual and the parents of the 17-year-old pressed charges against the 18-year-old...ugh, i just like to be sure what i'm really looking at, ya know...
I was going to make that point, also. We had a discussion on another board about a man that had grabbed a young girl out of the road to save her from getting hit by a car. Can you believe they gave him the title of sex offender? So, though most of them are bad, it's a shame for the others like the boyfriend/girlfriend and other situations like the one I listed.

Holy crap!! I'm in total shock!! I live in a really small town there are 13 sex offenders here. One lives .49 miles from me really close to the high school. :eek:
This is really bothersome.
I clicked in my address thinking there'd be a few, but none that I'd know. There's a sex offender (at home) that I've known for years. He goes to my church, his wife just died a few months back from cancer, and he has several kids. One of his kids is my age, and I used to be very close to her. It's really upsetting to know of someone that goes to my church that's been classified as a sex offender.
If it's "other sex offense at home", what does that imply?

However, on that note, I am going to add that I don't know how old the girl was but I knew the boy and knew he did often date girls several years younger than himself. It's quite possible that she was several years from sixteen yet.
Also, I wanted to ask if anyone knew if perhaps this page was just getting started. I'm from KY and even though my state was listed, I checked their list with Kentucky's official list and the watch dog site had nearly everyone listed but not quite.
When my sister and Brian were looking to buy their house, the realator had them get on this site, or a similar one, and check the area before they bought the house. Not a bad idea, with a small child to think of.
I put in our address and wow!!! Toledo is awful!!! 8 offernders in our "big" block alone!! Look closer to the inner city, and there are more coclors then I can count! Scary!

The one problem with databases like this is if you are caught urinating in public (indecent exposure), you can be labeled a sex offender. :rolleyes: Makes me wonder how many listed are human, as opposed to true preditors who need to be known. :confused:
The only problem I see in Nevada is that if you're under 18 (and male, the law isn't supposed to be biased but I've never seen anyone win pressing charges against a female), and you have consensual sex with a person who is also under 18, the parents can press charges (without the childs consent) and if they stick, they'll follow you into adulthood unlike other juvinile offenses. A friend of mine has to register as a "sex offender" for the rest of his life because of this. I agree that it is good for parents to know if a sex offender lives in the neighborhood but I disagree that some people have to register, especially if the act was consentual.
I've heard of too many cases where a woman has "regrets" about the act and will press charges of rape. Here, a precident has been set that the woman is always right and the guy is always lying. It isn't right, but it DOES happen. I wonder how may people are victims of this type of bias?
It lists a bit of info under "Convictions", so you could ask a lawyer or go to any law library and look up the specifics of that crime.
I have mostly green squares around me and two red. There is one red square less than a mile from the high school where my family grew up.

I am not too worried about the ones that do show up on the website... I am worried about the ones that haven't!!! The people on the website are only there because they got "Caught". They know about their rights and rules and what happens if they violate them.
There was a story recently about a little girl getting shot and killed because she was going to tell on her friend's father for molesting his daughter! :eek: The father shot the girl so she wouldn't tell. Could you imagine what his daughter is going through? She was too scared to speak up so her friend was going to do it for her. :cool:
Instead of worrying about identifying the posted offenders, let's worry about the signs of the ones NOT caught. Let's make sure our children understand what "good/bad touch" is and who to talk to about it. We should also amend our laws so that teenage boyfriend/girlfriend offenses aren't treated as harshly. I have no problem with an 18 year old dating a 16 year old. :cool: I do have a problem with 16 and younger having been violated by adults. At age 16 your old enough to drive to the police station and be believed. :cool:

Sex offenders on the website are still scary, and it's so important to know who they are and where they live. They don't believe that they are doing anything wrong, and a very high percentage of them recidivate. Remember that little girl that was recently killed in Florida by a registered sex offender? :mad:
Finally got the state to load...but PA is not on there! They did state on there that they hope to have all states loaded by Oct. 20, so I'll just keep checking back. Thanks for posting the link!
Great - there's one that lives right across the parking lot from me.
I feel as a parent I have the right to know if the person living next door to me is a sex offender, here in NZ we donot have a register as such yet, but people are petitioning for that to happen , I am all for it, I have every right to protect my child against these sicko's, I really have no empathy whatsoever for any of them, society in general would be a better place without any of them IMO., yes I have very strong views on this subject, and make no apologies for that.
I hear what Kari and some other's have said, however it is the same in every thing in life, whether Romeo and other's can be considered sex offenders is a tough call, where does one draw the line, I am sorry but if a few like him get a bad deal, that is not great I know, but if it helps protect my child then so be it.
I swear I heard about this story on the radio.
A woman was afraid to go to court because she didn't want them to have her unborn child taken away from her.
Why? Her husband is a registered sex offender!
I still am in shock over that one!
