Do you show your dog???
we decided not to show Jesse, but her registered name is Jessica James Bond
Yes, we show 4 of our dogs...the other's are either not show quality or are mixes.
we can't show foxy because he's to big, but i'd love to do with my next dog just for the experience
Nope. Kai's not registered (supposed to be.. but he isn't due to the fact that his breeder is an idiot  ). He isn't close to show quality anyways.. And Kaedyn's a rescue.
If I happen to get a dog from a breeder again (except for the BC since I can't show it anyways), I'd like to show it if I can.. just for the experience.
mine are mixes so nope :) . but i would like to experience it
I don't show either of my pups, well Charlie isn't too "breed standard", and with Jamie I might have but she has pink in her nose and so it would be pointless to since she wouldn't win anything LOL
Not to mention I just don't have the funds, training, OR experience. :(
Nope. Dale wasn't show quality...he was on the small end for a male Swissie (100 lbs.), but also wasn't full grown yet. We were thinking about it with Harlee, but for one, her nose isn't completely black (yet)...still has pink blotches (which I love, btw)...and to be honest, just don't have the time to persue it right now. She would be show quality, if her nose was all black :) Our breeder is big into showing..he has had a dog or 2 of his to Westminster. Maybe in the way future, we would consider it with another dog. I wouldn't want to (share) her with a handler, lol. And I also might be too shy to go in the ring anyway :)
No never have never will. The breed i have and will always have is Border Collies and i dont agree with showing dogs that were bred to work.
Nope, hard to believe, but these two cuties are not show quality:

They both were the last of their litters to be chosen. All the show people passed'em over. Gull mainly due to his eyes and Oz due to his coloring. All those picky show standards really worked to my advantage though. I haven't seen a show Smooth Collie yet, that I think holds a candle to Oz in the looks department and both he and Gull are loving and smart as whips. Wouldn't trade'em for nothing.
Par...
I show my mixed-breed dogs from time to time. :) :)
There's an organization near me where you can take and show mixed-breed (neutered!) dogs. It's pretty much for fun, to learn how to handle a dog, and they are judged based on health and temperament. I think it's a great program, I'm going to try and find the info on it and post it here.
Oh I wish we had an organization like that near me! Though neither of my pups are mixies, Charlie is neutered and had SLIGHT hearing loss. Not to mention I would imagine it would get you lots of experience!Quote:

my breed is border collies so heck n, but I dont agree with showing in general, to many breeds have been ruined by it for me to ever believe its a "good" thing lol
How does it "ruin" them? If anything it makes people and breeders strive to breed closer to the standard and improve breeds.Quote:

Hee Hee, Im joking of course. I guess what I should say is we SHARE them. :D
jessika, I sent you a PM since i am sure everyone else here has heard enugh about my opinions on this matter lol
I have shown Blaze in 4-H shows, but that's about it. He got best of show when he was 7 months old!! :D ;)
I showed Jenny in 4-H and she's a mixed breed. I wish we had one of those orginizations like you do, CathyBogart, on the other hand I just think it's too much work, lol. :p But I don't plan on showing any dogs I have in the future and I might do agility with Buster. :)
I said yes because it is my all time favorite thing to do but I only am just going to start 4H showmanship (like Jrs) with my mutt. As soon as I am alowed to sign on to a dog or own my own I will all the time.
No, I don't show any of my dogs. Tia's not show quality at all, the Dobes are rescues and not at all show quality and Tango's a mixed breed. I have seriously considered showing my Toller when I get her in a few years only because it seems like a great way of socializing your dog and I also love the overall atmosphere of dog shows, but then again, I know showing does take quite a bit of work and I'm not sure what I'll be doing in that point of my life so I might end up just sticking to agility and possibly feild triaining her. (just for fun, as I don't want to ever hunt...)
I'm not sure why, but I actually wasn't too fond of the whole "showing dogs" idea before I went to one this year and now I love them....
I do not own a dog right now, but I still show dogs for other people...and I love dog shows..and next dog taht IŽll have will be deffinetley show quality, so I could show him :) I dont see anything bad about dog shows, and breeding pure (healthy , hip &eye checked) dogs :)
There are a couple mixed breed associations, and some of them hold shows that include mixed breed conformation classes...based on soundness, temperment, manners, and overall shape of your dog. I believe you can search for different chapters in your state...here's some links for those who are interested.
Mixed Breed Dog Clubs Of America
American Mixed Breed Obedience Registration
North American Mixed Breed Registration
I don't have experience in any of these, I only know of them, so I can't tell you much more.
I don't show any of my dogs-two of them are mixed, and my GSD was born from a stray dog. I would love to do it though..I want to show a Dobie. :)
Nope, Maggie is a mix so she's can't be shown. Sadie is Rat Terrier and that is not a AKC breed. Grant is AKC breed, but not registered as he is from the shelter. He would mess up the ring anyhow, running out there like a big ol goofball. Hey world, here I am.....look at me....I'm Grant, all mighty Grant!!!! Chasing all the little dogs around, oh lord, I can see it now.....please ma'am get your dog outta here...LOL
Nope. my dog is a resuce.
and ive never thought about showing anyway.
and dont have no wear near the funds for it. :o
Nope and probably never will. It just doesn't appeal to me, you breed a dog that is "show quality" and judge it based on looks but can the dog really do its job...probably not. A show Lab I am sure would not be able to retrieve ducks all day or a show Husky most likely wouldn't be able to pull a sled...I would rather see those dogs do what they were bred to do. I really wish there were earthdog trials or training near me where I can get my Jacks underground...now that would be a blast. No offense to those who show their dogs or others, this is just my OPINION. :)
Visa is a showdog, and can still work all day long. :) Her last show she took Best of Breed and a Group 4th. Besides conformation, we are also taking agility classes. We already took handling class. On Monday Visa is going to take her herding instinct test (I hope we do well!), and we may continue herding if she likes it. And we also have high hopes for schutzhund, obedience, therapy, flying disc, and flyball. Visa is a BEAUTIFUL dog with an amazing conformation, but she is still everything a Belgian should be when it comes to working ability!
And to answer the poll --- I haven't handled Visa in the ring yet. For now, her breeder handles her --- I am going to go to the spring shows and study the handlers first. Then I will feel alot more confident. :)
Same goes for Tikeya, Baby, and Oscar   .. Baby was suppost to be registered, but her breeder said that her mother wasn't.. I recently found out that Baby's mother is registered and the breeder lied to me!! GRR.. whatever, papers dont mean much to me.. But i would have loved to put her in the altered class ;).Quote:

Well, I show two dogs, but they aren't mine. But I show Georgia in 4-H sometimes.
not YET..Just waiting to get my pup
No, none of my dogs are show quality. My future dogs will be rescues so I couldn't show them. I'm not interested in having unspayed/unneutered dogs running around my house anyway. ;)
I do not show yet but hope to in the future.
Molli is a mix so I can't show her. But her full name is Good Golly Miss Molli. Sammy I think is about the right size... even though he's got filling out to do. But he probably doesn't have the right conformation because he wasn't bred from show dogs. Plus I have no interest showing at all.
Same here.Quote:
