Lets talk about Stubby

When we first got to know Stubby we didn't realize how tiny she was. She was a mass of orange fur just like her brother but as we spent the summer on the porch we saw the others growing but little Stubby seemed to stay the same. We did notice that she didn't seem as active as her brother Peanut Butter then but we were focusing most of our attention on Lucky at the time.

One evening as I was sitting on the porch and trying to lure them closer to me by playing drag the shoe string I heard her coughing. She had a bad cough and wouldn't play. It was really hot outside and I was hoping she had allergies but I wasn't sure. Once again I turn to hubby with that look on my face and said "you know we have to catch her and get her to the vet, don't you?" True to form, hubby seemed to melt into his chair and disappear. So, again trying to involve him, I said "you know, we really need to name them because we can't keep referring to them as "the kittens". You have done such a good job in naming Leroy and Lucky so I think you should come up with a name for the remaining two" This seemed to bring him back to life and return the color to his face. He watched her for awhile and said "Stubby"! I laughed and asked him how he came up with that and he said it was because she was so tiny and fluffy that all you could see when she walked were little stubs. And so it came to be!

As we began propping the door open to try to lure Lucky in Stubby would be curious and come in the house too. I noticed that once she was in the air conditioning for awhile her coughing would stop. She was so darn tiny but I was soon to learn just how much spunk and fire this little girl had in her! She was very independent and had little need for her brothers or anyone for that matter.

Her health greatly improved but she never grew. She is tiny, and petite but she is a stick of dynamite at all times. Light her fuse and look out!!!

She was the mightiest of hunters! She was so small that she could get into anything. She was missing for a few hours and I went looking for her. It was Spring and the trees were still bare at the time and I thought I saw movement way up in the neighbors tree. I soon realized that there was orange fur sticking out of a tiny hole in the tree. I mean the size of a woodpecker hole! As usual I called hubby to come look at this. He freaked out! He said there was no way she could get out of that and we were going to have to have someone come cut that section of the tree down in order to get her out! I remember thinking that the neighbors were going to love this! But, as she was to do many times in the future, she proved him wrong and squeezed herself back out.

Her next adventures involved the roof. She learned how to get on the deck railing and jump to the roof. She loved it up there!

Soon the roof wasn't high enough for her so she climbed to the top of the chimney.

The way I first dicsovered this was when people would ride down the street and stop and start pointing at our house. I went out and looked up and there was Peanut Butter on the roof and Stubby on the chimney! I yelled for hubby (yes again!) He freaked out (yes, again!) He said you know we are going to have to take the house apart if she falls down there!!! Once again she showed him that she was steady on her feet. She would sit there until dusk and wait for the chimney swallows to come and roost then she would nail them one by one as they came to the chimney! She loved that game but I was none to happy about all the birds she was killing. The next time she came in she was grounded for good! The birds thank me every day for confining her little fuzzy butt!

She has always reminded me of a little fox. Her expressions and the way she acts.

The time came to get her fixed and I was not looking forward to that adventure! Hubby was on vacation but I could not get off work for the day that I had made the appointment. I informed him that he was going to have to do this on his own. Macho man says "No problem! I can handle that little squirt!"
Picture the scene that I find when I get home...
Large 180lb man in a ripped and shredded t-shirt, bloody scratches all over his arms and stomach, and still shaking from the much earlier adventure!!:D One look at thim and I was rolling on the floor!
Stubby might be very tiny but she can twist her body in ways that no one could imagine. Hubby got her to the vet ok, but it went sour after that. He pulled her out of the carrier and the twisting began! Both he and the vet could not hold onto her! She managed to get away and it took five techs and hubby to catch her! The story I got was that everyone was bleeding!

She weighs six pounds and I'm sure a pound of that is fur! Her arch enemy is most everyone but Maggie Sue seems to be the main source of trouble in Stubby's life. She will remain the Queen B at all costs. I have no doubt that she will win every battle too.

She is a stinker for sure! She has patience for Leroy only and she does like her lovins from momma. She is playful, fun, and cute as a button! I admire her spunk and attitude as long as I'm not on the recieving end! I have seen this little bitty kitty take on anything in her path and always come out a winner. She is fearless, and yet kind, gentle, and sweet when she wants to be. She can purr so hard her whole little body shakes and quivers.
I absolutely adore my little spitfire! Hubby really admires her too but he will still get a shiver when you mention his vet adventure with Stubby!

And the fact,that sheis an Orange Female,makes her,unique,as Orange Cats, beleive,areabout 95%male.And TheFound Cat Orange Organization,has voted,pwas down,to let Stunbby,become a member,as of now.She is a Great Orange Cat,with plenty,of courage,and a credit,to Orange Cats,everywhere.

Mighty Cat! She is so cute and innocent looking ( ;) heehee) but you can see she is really a little lion.

Oh - I just kove the story of Stubby. I remeber it very well when she was COTD.
I can just see this little fluffball up on the chimney - that story cracks me up every time I hear it.

She sure is a beauty! :eek: :) Another amazing story of a saved kitty that's now loved so much. Even if she caused so much bloodshed. :rolleyes:

Well let me tell ya...if I had my way, I'd STILL be snacking on those yummy swifts! So there! :p Now if only I could find my way UP the chimney.....yummy birdies await!

What a nice ending for a very lucky cat to end up at your home.She's gorgeous and it is very unusual for an orange cat to be female too.She must love ruling the house.

I can be tough, or just dynamite!!!

I LOVE the story of Stubby! She is definitely one-of-a-kind! Do you suppose her small size has anything at all to do with her being a female orange kitty? (That may be a stupid question, but it's rare for kitties to be that small as adults, also, isn't it? I just wondered if there might be a connection, but probably not.)

Jen, I don't know what made her cough like that. As soon as she moved into air conditioning she quit. I'm guessing allergies or kitten asthma. The vet never found anything wrong with her. (It was probably fake so she could move in too!):p

Jan, that is the poor poor bird of Stubby's choice! Her mouth started watering the minute I showed her the picture!!:D

Stubby is beautiful and sooo tiny! I love that it's always the tiny ones that are the meanest or most adventurous - our Leila is like that - she's so small (long, but skinny), but she's a force to be reckoned with for sure. Brent & I have the marks on our hands and forearms to prove it. I'm sure if we let Leila out, she'd be on the roof or hunting birds and squirrels like your Stubby. She loves to watch the animals and "hunt" them from the inside! :)
