Andy needs surgery

I wish I had better news.

Andy needs surgery.

There is still a leak. :(

The OR was booked today so he'll either have surgery tomorrow or Saturday.

He's never had surgery before, so he's pretty scared.

*edit* Sorry for being so vague... I'm in a bit of shock.

His surgery will either be Friday or Saturday. Right now he's at his parents house resting. When they have an opening they'll call him. Pretty much he's on standby, but the doctor said the surgery is urgent, so hopefully they'll get him in sooner than later.

After the sugery he'll have to stay in the hospital for 2-3 days. After that, it's a 2-3 week recovery time.

I know he is scared, my husband had open heart surgery and he was very frightened, but he done really well during the surgery. He had lots of prayers and good thoughts for him as Andy has for him.

I'm so sorry to hear this, Kimmy. I'm sitting here trying to think of something to say to make you feel better and I'm at a loss for words. I know you are probably so frightened for Andy and scared quite a bit yourself. Hang in there! I'm sure everything is going to be just fine.

I've had my share of surgeries and the only thing I can think of to tell Andy is to try and relax. I know that sounds silly but I find that if I can mentally calm myself down and make my body completely relax that things seem to go so much better and be less painful. I hope that you are able to be there with him before he goes into surgery too. It always helped me to have Alden's hand to squeeze whenever I needed too and also to make me laugh a little. Also, tell him not to be afraid to tell or ask the nurses if he needs anything. They are there to help him and make him as comfortable as possible.

Will the surgery repair the lung and then everything is expected to be ok? I sure do hope so. This is supposed to be such a happy time for you both and I hate that you are having to go through all this. I'll be thinking about you both and keeping you in my prayers.

I'm so sorry to hear about Andy. You guys are in my thoughts and prayers.

Ask the hospital if they have Reiki Therapy. If they do, have them do it on Andy before he goes into surgery. It's relaxation therapy where he wears headphones that play relaxing sounds like waves, waterfalls, etc., and the massage therapist does a relaxing type of massage on him. Believe me, it works!! I had it done when I had my hysterectomy. They even let me wear the headphones into the OR. Please, check it out. It'll definitely help Andy during this stressful time.

Oh Kimmy, I'm sorry to hear that Andy still has a leak in his lung. Surgery is a big deal, but it could be worse. He will do fine and will be home before you know it. Prayers and hugs are on the way for both of you.

When we have people with pneumothoraxes sometimes they have to go in a 'glue' the lung back together. What really surprised me was that they had sent him home with the chest tube!! Our patients stay in the hospital forrreeevver!!

I am sorry to hear Andy is not doing better :( I totally understand the fear of a first surgery. I had a gall bladder attack Monday night, and now have surgery scheduled for Dec. 7 to have it removed. I am trying to come up with anyway possible to avoid it, but I guess we all have to face some type of surgery sooner or later.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Hopefully the surgery will go seamlessly and he'll be recovered in no time.

Oh Amy. I'll keep you in my thoughts. I guess one good thing about my laproscopy is that they removed my appendix, so if it ever gave me problems, I wouldn't have to have surgery again.

Oh, I am so sorry that Andy will need surgery to get better. No surgery is easy I guess if it is the only way to make him better it has to be done. I will keep Andy, you and his family in prayers as you go through this today - and with the recovery time - that sometimes is worse than the surgery. The time always goes so slowly!
