any questons you folks have about wolfdogs, dont hesitate to ask me. my organization is about education to the public about wolfdogs and the wolfdog sanctuaries we sponsor.
It's a most misunderstood breed with a bad rap. A WD is not for everyone..but to those educated and have knowledge of them... it's a true family member.
A warm welcome to Pet Talk. :)
Love the picture of your 3.
Welcome to Pet talk!
Your dogs are beautiful:)
WELCOME TO PT!
Welcome to Pet Talk! I totally agree with you about the WD being a misunderstood breed. They are absolutely beautiful and sadly they all to often fall into the wrong hands. Yours (Keona?) is absolutely stunning!!!
Warmly,
Karen
Welcome to Pettalk! Your pups are beautiful!! :)
Welcome to Pet Talk, WWR!!
Your kids are gorgeous. I cannot wait to see more of them. :)
Good to have you with us

Welcome aboard the PT family! You have some beautiful fur kids. All 3 of them are really beautiful. I have only cats but someday, I hope to move out in the country so I can have a couple of big dogs too.
Hi there, welcome to PT! :D
Welcome to Pet Talk! Your dogs are absolutely gorgeous! I especially love Keona (nice name too!) I love wolves, I think they are amazing animals. I have met a few wolf hybrids (and pure wolves) and they have all been extremely sweet and friendly. I do worry about people breeding them...it's very unfortunate when they end up in the wrong hands, as in somebody getting one as a novelty and not realizing what it takes to have one. I know they can make wonderful members of the family for the right people!
My dog is a breed that is more "wolf-like" than most, he is a siberian husky (he's the dog in my sig). :)
Welcome to PT :)
Your wolfdog is stunning - I love the difference of having the longer snout/muzzle, it's really interesting.
Wow! 17 years! That is reassuring! :D ;)Quote:

Carly
thanks to all. you folks sure make a newbie fell welcome. this is most refreshing indeed. some of the wolfdog forums and lists I'm on (have to be for rescue purposes) get downright nasty sometimes..and thats not why I come to the internet....LOL

Hi, Wrr welcome to Pet Talk! I'm david p and I'm from Pittsburgh, Pa. I have two cats that own me, Nikki, a 4y.o. tuxedo kitty, and Daisy, a 1 1/2 y.o. tortoiseshell kitty. Pet Talk is (at least I don't thnk so) not a place where you are judged on the type of pets you have. We welcome all pets and their owners. Wrr, your dogs are beautiful!
thats one reason i came here. i happen to respect and care for all types of animals. i've even raised flying squirels :D ... after rescuing them from a contruction site where the mother was killed during destruction of the forest for homes.......Quote:

we had a cat, smokey was here name. she lived with us for many happy years. she and my first wolfdog, Niknoa, were best buds... quite a hoot, the two of them.
WRR, I volunteer with Cat Sense, a cat rescue organization in Pittsburgh. We rescue them from all kinds of situations ant try very hard to find forever homes for them.Nikki & Daisy both came from abusive owners and I adopted them through Cat Sense. I believe in adopting older cats as a lot of people overlook them in favor of kittens.
Welcome to Pet Talk!
I look forward to seeing more pictures of your beautiful family!!

(i know.. "disgusting" is spelled wrong...:D )
Hehe that picture is so funny! The look on that face LOL! :D :p
these two are a riot. Reno, the golden, helped raise Keona... he's a year older than her. She protects him unreal. We can't take the two of them to PetCo or Pets mart at the same time, because if another male dog even utters a growl at Reno.... he's looking at 2 inch fangs from a wolfdog
they really do love eachother.....
we call em "the Wrecking Crew"......
Shelby..the older female golden...ignores em....;) :p

:)Welcome. I'm a newbe as well and this site is very friendly. You wolfhound is beautiful. There's a wolf rescue up in the foothill here in Ca. When we were at a festival last November, they were there. They had a large, and when I say large I mean large kennel. It had the most beautiful white wolf mix in it. It was the biggest dog I had ever seen, simply magnificant creature! He had the most soulful eye's. They thing I remember the most was how friendly he was. They let us look at a photo album of their members with their wolf and wolf hybrid's. He was a sight to see.
I belong to a Greyhound adoption group so I know your passion for the animals. I have two greys and two cats. Allot of people don't think you can have small animals with greys so I'm always educating as well. Welcome and have fun here.:D
Hello Ken! :)
That's my dad's, brother's and grandfather's name. :D
Anyways~ My name is Kay and i'm owned by three mutts anmed Simba, Nala, and Kiara! :)
This place is VERY addicting! Welcome. :D
Wow! A wolfdog! Ok, I am going to be really dumb here and ask a bunch of dumb questions. :o  First off, is it a cross between a wolf and dog? If so what is the purpose of breeding them together? Are they meant to be placed in a home? I do not know a lot about them as I haven't heard about them until I joined here. Anyho, when people breed wolfdogs do they plan to release them into the wild? I know, I told you they were dumb questions. Anyway, they are absolutely GORGEOUS dogs! :D I really like the "fangs" picture and the "disgusting" picture. :D Cute! I am sure you will love it here. By the way, who were you referred here by? Just curious. :)
I have one dog, a German Shorthaired Pointer named Heidi who will be 2 in December. :)
WELCOME TO PET TALK! :D
A very warm welcome to Pet Talk! The pictures are just gorgeous! I especially liked the swimming pool one :D. My name is Jessica and I'm mom to a shepherd/greyhound mix named Tasha and a golden retriever named Tommy, as well as a cockatiel (cinnamon pied pearl) named Dawn. :) Hope you like it here!

WELCOME TO PET TALK! :D
*purpose? it started a long time ago. if it were not for the wolf, there would be no dog. :D actually, the german sheperd breed is a breed down from the wolf, and malimutes. ... that goes way back. some breeding was accidental..whereas someone may have owned a wolf, rescued or whatever, and it bred with a dog... but bottom line is, there are those folks out there with a great knowledge of wolves and wolfdogs... and once a person like this has a wolfdog for a family member... thats all they really want. then we have to money hungry breeders, who will breed wolfdogs, which are mostly low content wolf, and sell them as high content to folks that know nothing about the breed.....they get frustrated trying to raise them because they have no idea what they have gotten themsevles into. It take knowledge of the animal, a ton of patience, and full time commitment to properly raise a wolfdog and keep it social.... of course..that depends on wolf content. the low's are not as difficult to raise.
50 - 80% of the wolfdogs born will be dead or in rescue by thier second year..... thats pretty staggering isn't it? its all mainly due to the irresponsible breeders out there.... the good breeders wont let there animals end up like that, they take them back.. but they also do home checks and prospective owner evaluations to find out how knowledgable they are.
* the low content and mid contents are very "home capable" (inside/outside companions) remember that key word, "companion"... wolfdogs make great "companions"...the make terrible "pets". the high contents do not do well indoors in most cases. wolfdogs are very destructive, not because they are "mean" .........but because they just know anybetter and love to "if it dont move..........chew it up"...... :D
*no. they can not be released into the wild. they do not have the same fear of man that pure wild wolves do. you will never see a wolf in the wild..it will hide from you........ but a domesticated wolf or wolfdog...wont. then the trouble begins "hes after my chicknes...he's after my kids.......yada yada....... BANG ..! your dead mr. wolf.".......:(
you know.. i honestly did not recognize the email that refered me here.........
my next door neighbor has a german short haired pointer, my male golden retriever and him dont get along though..wish they would... he loves Keona though...and Keona likes him.. .they always wag tails at the fence and exchange nose rubs.....:D
Wow Keona is gorgeous :D. Welcome to PT i hope you enjoy your time here. My name is Rhiannon and i am owned by Rottweiler/ Aussie Cattle Dog mix Clover, Border Collie Elvis and Tabby cat Yumi.
thanks again everyone...
