I Died Today

Dear Mom and Dad,

I died today. You got tired of me and took me to the shelter. They
were overcrowded and I drew
an unlucky number. I am in a black plastic bag in a
landfill now. Some other puppy will get the barely used leash you
left. My collar was dirty and too
small, but the lady took it off before she sent me to the Rainbow
Bridge.

Would I still be at home if I hadn't chewed your shoe? I didn't know
what it was, but it was leather,
and it was on the floor. I was just playing. You forgot to get puppy
toys.

Would I still be at home if I had been housebroken? Rubbing my nose
in
what I did only made me
ashamed that I had to go at all. There are books and obedience
teachers that would have taught you
how to teach me to go to the door.

Would I still be at home if I hadn't brought fleas into the house?
Without anti-flea medicine, I
couldn't get them off of me after you left me in the yard for days.

Would I still be at home if I hadn't barked? I was only saying, "I'm
scared, I'm lonely, I'm here, I'm
here! I want to be your best friend."

Would I still be at home if I had made you happy? Hitting me didn't
make me learn how.

Would I still be at home if you had taken the time to care for me and
to teach manners to me? You
didn't pay attention to me after the first week or so, but I spent
all
my time waiting for you to love
me.

I died today.

Euthanasia is a blessing, though some still can't see
why I was ever born If I weren't meant to be.
My last day of living was the best I ever had.
Someone held me very close, I could see she was very sad.
I kissed the lady's face, and she hugged me as she cried.
I wagged my tail to thank her, then I closed my eyes and died.

The people who neglect pups like that should come back as a pup and be put in with the same type of owner. Wish I could rescue more dogs than just lady, but there's got to be room on the bed for my wife and I somewhere.

I don't know why I felt I had to click on this link while at work, but I did and now my mascara is running. It's such a frustrating feeling to want to save every animal in need and know there is no way you can. :(

This brought tears to my eyes. Since I have a new puppy I have been pouring over the web and have run across some horrid stories of abuse and neglect. Just breaks my heart..thanks for sharing!

we recently lost our beloved red dobie Killian- and had this put on a stone for his grave marker! I still cry everytime I read it. We are now blessed with 2 news babies Gracie (red female) and Deuce(black male)!

Lend Me A Pup

I will lend to you for a while, a Doberman pup, God said
For you to love him while he lives and mourn him when he's dead.
Maybe for twelve or fourteen years, or maybe two or three.
But will you, 'till I call him back, take care of him for me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you, and should his stay be brief,
You'll always have his memories as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught below I want this pup to learn.
I've looked the whole world over in search of teachers true,
And from the folk that crowds life's land, I have chosen you.
Now will you give him all your love, nor think the labor vain,
Nor hate me when I come to take my Dobie back again.

I fancied that I heard them say "Dear Lord Thy Will Be Done",
For all the joys this Dobe will bring, the risk of grief we'll run.

But should you call him back much sooner than we've planned

We'll have yet another Doberman and love him all his life.

Amos, I'm sorry to hear about the passing of your dobie Killian. We too just (9-6-04) lost a member of our family (Angus, a almost 13 yr old rottie).
I also have the lend me a pup poem on my fridge with chow inserted instead of dobie.
I'm glad you were able to bring new life into your family with 2 new dobies! I would love to see pictures and I'm sure everyone else would too:)

Amos, I am also sorry to hear of the loss of your Killian. He will live on in your heart forever. Hugs.

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Killian, I know how it feels having just lost my mini Dachshund Jesse at the end of this August:( but I'm sure he's doing great and made lots of new friends. I would love to see some pictures of your 2 new fur babies, I love dobies especially the red ones. I'm sure yours are gorgeous:)

I also have that poem only it's replaced with Dachsie instead of dobie.

OMG.......So sad, first the poems then the passing of Killian. Brings back memories of losing my baby and the rescues I've seen. In a perfect world every dog would have a loving, forever home and be a real part of a family. I would hate to know exactly how many animals are left chained outdoors year round with no companionship, attention and food and water. It breaks my heart.

Sorry about you're loss.
