Mishi to White Coats - PT prayers please

I took Mishi to the white coats this a.m. to spend the day. Ever since switching to the K/D diet I've noticed that he sometimes gets constipated - I check his litterbox for "evidence." However now it looks like he hasn't peed in a couple of days and he's been meowing more than usual (he's very vocal anyway, but this was noticeably more).

He's due for a follow-up from his ultra scan a couple of months ago too, so we'll see what the vet ends up doing.

The tech hinted that they may have to give him an enema :eek: Oh boy -- I KNOW he's not going to like that! So PT prayers please that nothing more major is going on than he's just a bit plugged up and needs help getting his plumbing de-plugged. I just hope that his kidneys are doing the job they're supposed to do and that he's not going into kidney failure.

On another note, this was the first time I got to use his new deluxe Sherpa carrier - WOW! That thing truly is the Rolls Royce of cat carriers! It's on wheels so the trip to the vet was not too stressful on my back.

Oh no! I sure hope poor Mishi is ok!

I had to stop giving T & P the hairball formula food because it was making Tubby seriously constipated. Don't know if that is similar to the K/D, but it sounds like it to me.

Oh Mishi, sweetheart:( An enema...that's no fun:( But paws crossed that it's nothing more than a little backup. We're thinking of you Mishi!!!

The "NO Pee" problem is possibly more serious than the
"NO Pooh" problem!

Did you make it clear to the White Coat Crowd that he had't "pee'd"
for a long time??

Hopefully they will palpate his bladder to see if it's empty
or too full; as well as checking for a "solids back-up".

Yes, I know, which is why he went in today for an emergency drop-off at the vet .... of course I'm getting ready for a trial at work and don't have a minute to spare, so I'll have to go pick him up tonight (unless they want to keep him overnight) and then get back to the office <sigh> kids and cats -- gotta love 'em and I do so very muchly.

Vet just called ... They're going to do the bloodwork and an abdominal X-ray. Right now she doesn't feel anything abnormal, except that he's overweight! :eek: Hmm .... he feels pretty lean to me.

If they need to catheterize him, they'll have to keep him for a few days/up to a week! Yikes! I wonder how much that is going to cost me? Pet insurance doesn't cover stuff like this. :(

I pray that Mishi will be okay. I didn't see this post until now.

OH no! Prayers on the way for poor Mishi. I hope the bloodwork and x-rays can find the problem and that it is easily treated. Paws crossed.

Kinda wonder about the "HAVE to keep him for a few days / week..."

Dunno bout THAT!
Boots was sent home the SAME DAY he got his catheter -
all :eek: THREE times...

The catherer was "Secured" in place with a
little "bracket" for lack of the medical term...
that was held to HIM with a couple of stitches...

And of course an E-collar which prevented him from doing any
catheter Removals!

Only "requirement" of ME was to confine him so the constant "drip"
from the catheter didn't harm the house;
and to keep him clean "back there" - because he couldn't do it
himself because of the collar.

Annnd - I had to be able to gather a pee "sample" for testing.
No Big Deal - Boots finally learned to "dribble" in a plastic baggie lined
litter pan - which made collecting a "sample" pretty easy.

He VERY Quickly learned how to *EAT* & *Drink* with the E-collar -
he'd just walk up to his bowls and *PLUNK* the collar down FLAT on
the floor - and *munch* away!

Hope poor Mishi comes home Rite Away!!

Prayers on the way for little Mishi!! Phred's on the job so I'm sure everything will work out OK.

Mishi, don't let anyone tell you that you're overweight. It's just "dinner muscle" ;) :eek:

Mishi, I hope you get well soon. I as well would think he may have an UTI.

:D I love his little "flubby" :D The rest of him really is very lean - I can very easily feel his bones through his skin all over his body except for his "flubby"

No blockage that they can see; his intestines appear a bit inflamed but no obstructions. He did poop at the vets (YAY!). She said he has a small bladder for such a large cat but nothing unusual going on with that end of his plumbing. They will try and get a urine sample. So he's coming home with a laxative. :rolleyes: I have instructions to try and give him Metamucil or perhaps pumpkin or try giving him wet food interspersed with his dry food to keep him regulah - I think the wet food will be the most palatable to my picky boy. They haven't gotten the blood results back yet. So, all in all, no real news, which I guess is good news. At least he didn't need an enema or a catheter. The vet said he's been a very spunky handful - that's my Mishi! He was giving the vet the evil eye while I was on the phone with her. He's probably singing up a storm too!

So I'm off to pick him up from the vet, drop him off at home and then drive back down to the office for trial preparation. Oh yeah, the overtime will probably pay for the vet visit today - I hope!

Just got to this post and I'm glad that Mishi is doing better:)

Glad to hear he's ok and still hoping the blood test comes back ok! :)

The blood work came back mostly normal which is good considering his kidney disease. The only level that was elevated was Calcium, which the vet said could be anything from the timing of the specimen or it could be something related to his kidneys. As this was the first time it showed up, she's not too concerned and said we'll recheck in a few months. He had a bit of a poopy butt when I brought him home - probably from the laxative they gave him, but I didn't have time to give him a butt bath; just a quick butt wipe. By the time I got home from the office (VERY late) I had to clean him up and gave him a butt-fluff trim :D which he didn't appreciate too much :rolleyes: He seems fine today, eating as usual, although no poop or peep that I could tell this a.m. (Only on PT could I report that!)

He and Mitzi both slept on the new leather couch instead of on my bed last night which was most disconcerting as I didn't get to bed until almost 1:00 a.m. after working on the trial brief, exhibits, witness lists from home, and all the other wonderful things us paralegals do to make the attorneys look good at trial. Today I'm completely exhausted after about 4 hours of sleep, but I'm at work; well, at least the body is here .... :rolleyes:

The vet said to call her Saturday to give an update. Mitzi is still hissing at him because he smells of "them" but she'll get over it.

Mishi isn't overweight - he's just big-boned! :D

I am so happy to read the blood work came back normal. Sorry the kids decided not to sleep with you on the bed last night. They tend to do that to us when we change their routines. Our gang does that everytime we come back from vets. It's like they are telling us their displeasure of what we put them through that day and they are going to make us feel sad by not sleeping with us and it works. LOL

Good to hear everything came back looking good! Now here's hoping he starts using the litterbox regularly again, and yes, only on PT can we discuss how overjoyed we get when they start using the litterbox regularly. ;) :D

It sounds strange to me that hairball formula food would constipate him! Because some of the better hairball remedies in tube form are Cat-a LAX and LAXatone .... which obviously are LAXATIVES!!!??? :confused:

He's on K/D Hill's Prescription food for kidney disease which I believe doesn't have any hairball remedy in it and I did notice a change in his litter box habits when I changed his food. I do give him Petromalt regularly because he does get hairballs (and he is one :D ) which does seem to help.

Georgia, I'm glad to hear that Mishi's blood test came back normal and that he seems to be acting normal again.:) I hope he continues to do well. Please keep us updated.

Oh brother - vomiting cats! Both of them! I know with Mitzi it was because she gobbled down her breakfast too fast, but Mishi threw up immediately on getting up this a.m. - fluidy stuff. He's obviously not feeling too well, so I'm going to call the vet.

One thing about being a PT member is that we watch our pets more carefully - at least I do. I think PT pets are getting better care because we all are made very aware of what differences in behavior to look for.

At times I think it could be worrying-meowmie syndrome, but I think I'd rather spend a few $$ on my pets to assure me that they are okay or that something that is amiss is caught earlier than it would have been in the past.

PT is the best!

I'm sorry to hear that both of your furkids are throwing up.:( I know that mine will throw up from time to time and Cirrus threw his dinner up just last night.:( It's so hard not to worry about them but I try not to panic too much as long as they're still acting normally.
I sure hope that Mishi feels better soon and that it's nothing serious. Prayers and positive thoughts are still being sent your way. Please take care and try to update us when you can. :)

Poor boybee. He spent most of the day at the vet's. He didn't eat all day! They gave him subcutaneous fluids because he was a bit dehydrated and he got the dreaded enema, after another X-ray showed him blocked up. The vet said he was borderilne having to be hospitalized the whole weekend, but I opted to bring him home as I knew he would have been all alone at the kitty hospital until Tuesday because of the holiday.

He's home now and has eaten, after getting a dose of Periactin. His poor backend is all curly - he was a wet mess back there when I picked him up and we cleaned him up a bit. Poor guy. He does seem a little bit perkier after eating, but he's still laying low. Continuing prayers that he continues to feel better would be appreciated. Thanks!

Georgia, I'm so sorry that Mishi was blocked up again had to have another enema.:(
My RB Pepper became blocked up a few times and I had to start giving him 1 1/2 ml of lactulose 2 times a day. He never liked it but it seemed to work because he never became blocked up again.
Once again I'm continuing to send prayers and positive thoughts to both you and Mishi. Please get well soon big orangie boy.:)

Our vet doesn't have anyone in the bldging past 10 p.m. (kennel people leave at 10 p.m.) the office staff comes in at 8 a.m. I wonder what they do with seriously ill animals that might need to be watched closely? They wanted me to possibly leave RB Butterscotch there all night but after finding out no one would be there I told them I would bring him home with me.

Poor baby. Hope he is feeling better today.

We do have a 24-hour emergency pet hospital, but it's on the other side of town.

He is coming around, albeit very slowly. He did eat, pee and poop last night and he finally meowed this morning - he'd been completely quiet since I brought him home from the vet. As he normally meows all the time, it's very strange to have him so quiet. This morning I gave him his Periactin dose (I'm amazed that he's very easy to pill) and he drank some water.

Our ER place is 28-30 miles north of us.

Poor sweet Mishi .... was an ordeal he has been through!!!:(
Of course, I am sending more prayers for his continued improvement!;)
