Here's my latest foster boy.
Ben Purr. He's a big gentle lamb.
So sad, he's been starved. Found on the side of the raod, unable to raise his head.
His rescuer picked him up, took him home and called Siamese Rescue.
Just over a week later he was in the program. He gained almost 1 lb in 10 days.
He's had blood work and thyroid testing and they don't look to bad. He's having an X Ray on Friday, to see why hid heartrate and breathing aren't normal.
Keep this gentle soul in your thoughts.

HOW? HOW? HOW? Can people do this to poor animals? He is beautiful, even half starved. What did he ever do to deserve being treated like that? Hope he finds a good forever home and lives out his life as a lazy fat cat!
He's such a gorgeous cat.:) I'm so glad that he was rescued before it was too late.
I'll never understand why people abuse or neglect animals.:(
I sure hope that the vet can find out why his breathing and heart rate aren't normal. I hope it's nothing serious. Please keep us updated.

That is so cruel as to starve a cat you have to keep it locked up and not feed delibrately.
As any cat allowed out will find/kill or steal food and not return to a bad house.
Well that is the way it works in England. If you mistreat an inside/outside cat, he doesn't come home.

What a handsome boy he is! I'm so glad that he was rescued. How could anyone do that to him!! :mad: :mad: I'll never understand!
I hope the vet can find out what's wrong with his breathing and heart rate - and cure it!
Give him lots of kisses and scritchies, and please keep up updated.
OMG! He's so beautiful and so skinny! Do keep us posted on what the vet says. I hope he finds a wonderful furrever home to become a beautiful, well fed Ben Purr (LOVE the name!)
Bennie's purr is so deep and rattlely. I thought he was falling apart!:eek:
He's such a large framed boy, I think he could do well at 15 lbs. (that's 5 more to go)
He's much larger than my Snowy, at 14 lbs of muscle.
When he was found, he was 8.8 lbs. Got him up to 9.98lbs.
Going to Vet for X Ray tomorrow. I'd love to see him having gained another 1lb in a week.
Not a mean bone in this boys body.
I introduced him to my Bella, sweet gentle, non threatening Tortie girl, and his made the requisite hiss, but then, they all do that.
Bella, of course, was unphased. She is my rescue 'angel' introduction kitty. Mama's so proud of what she does.:D
I'm so glad he was rescued! How can someone throw away such a gorgeous cat is baffling to me. Unless he was lost somehow. This poor girl wasn't as lucky. I found her late one night huddled against a storage trailer on a dead end street I hardly ever go down. When I do, I'm looking for cats. Everytime I look at that precious Ashley's face, I get a lump in my throat! She is the spitting image of my RB kitty Marina Mar. Now you know WHY I have such a passion for black, long haired kitties. Ashley's in a better place now. RIP beautiful little girl. Not ALL humans are bad.
Thank GOD for the person who rescued this boycat Ben Purr. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for being so kind and good. If one of my babies ever was lost and was rescued by a kind person, I would want to spend the rest of my life thanking them. My throat hurts from emotion. I'd better go pull myself together, huh? Thank you again!

Poor baby, this makes me so sad. I'm very glad you are taking care of him though and i do hope to see more pics as he improves.

Ben Purr's Xray came back. It is very promising as he doesn't have any tumors or asthma.
What he has is Toxoplasmosis.
Which is cureable.
He must have got a hold of some bad meat, as he was scrounging for food.
Poor fellow, he probably knew. Well, I can eat this meat, and it will make me sick, or I can just die here.
I don't know if he ever had a family, but my suspicions are: yes.
Based on: he's neutered
and his nails have been cut. (doubtful the rescuer did this)
Now, did he escape and get lost? (He shows no interest in the rest of his room, much less getting outside.
Or was he tossed out?
Maybe a new baby came, or the family moved.
Sorry to say, very common reasons a cat ends up on the street.
We'll never know his story, and he's not telling.
He's now safe, full, and going to be getting the medicine to finally make him feel better.

Rose, So glad you all were there to find that sweet boy! Toxoplasmosis is easy to clear up with medication anyway. What do you mean by "his claws were cut"? Is he declawed, or just short nails? Noserubs to him from the gang here! Jan

ROSE, i CAN"T STAND to see animal mistreated especially an adorable siamese. He looks a lot like my RB siamese Thai, and I'm glad that his illness is treatable. I am very fond of siamese, having had Thai for 22 yrs. Is he a blue point? Thai was.

I lived in Colorado years ago. While I was there, my Siamese cat jumped out a window and was gone for weeks. She was found on the sidewalk by a passerby and then taken to the local vet. She had a collar on with my Pennsylvania phone number on it. After a day at the vet, they called my parents etc. etc. She must have stayed hidden from everyone, including me, when she was lost. She was really sick when she finally came out of hiding....and nearly didn't make it. She lived to be 21 by the way. Her name was Sabrina...she was my very first cat. I loved her so and was totally dedicated to her. I put up signs and just never gave up hope in finding her. She was a survivor for sure.
I wonder - have you called the local shelter to see if anyone has lost a Siamese. And yes, I can also see that people put cats and dogs out to fend for themselves, when their lives don't coincide with having a cat or dog.

We don't exactly know where Bennie came from. For sure, not locally.
He was picked up on the side of a road, and the rescuer said she looked around and knocked on doors. Don't think she put up signs, she wasn't from that area either.
She drove him 140 miles to where she lives. Then somebody contacted SRC about a missing Blue Point in THAT area, but it couldn't have been Bennie, he just got there a few days before.
Then I got him.
Bennie didn't gain any weight last week, some mild diarrhea. Anyway, they put him on Albon for possible Coccidia and in anticipation of this antibiotic for his Toxoplasmosis, which can cause severe diarrhea.
I gotta try and keep his weight up through these weeks of meds. He doesn't want to eat after the medicine.
He is hating the taste of the liquid med Clindamycin.
Does anybody know if a Vet can flavor the liquid med? I thought I remembered meds getting a tuna flavor to be more palatable.
You vet should be able to flavour the medicine to make it a little more palatable for Ben. Or you could always as Phred for his claim juice ;)
Dear Ben Purr, I have neglected to tell you how happy I am that you were rescued and how much I hope you will get back to good health and full beauty soon.
Clindamycin comes in capsules as well as the foul tasting liquid. I'd ask the vet about them instead of giving Ben that nasty stuff. :eek: My vet had me taste it once after one of my kitties got dentistry, and it is a taste that lingers, and won't go away fast. Blechh!

I know it all too well Rose! Most of the kitties I rescue off the streets are cared for by me at first until I finagle them into shelters! I just got in an emaciated orange boy via leslie flenner who is a hard call. I'm sure he'll survive for now, but I don't know what's wrong. :( Sweet neutered orange boy...age who knows? :confused: I've had kittens with awful teeth, so how can a vet actually tell by teeth? I can tell if they're over six months, but born to a feral who's been reproducing for years, it's anyones guess IMO! :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes: Jan

Bennie has not responded to numerous drugs, and he remains without a DX.
He has stopped eating and his breathing is from poor to terrible (open mouth)
I am taking him to a specialist today at 12:30.
If he knows what's wrong and is able to treat, then Bennie will have his last chance. (this specialist is expensive and out of the realm of a rescue cat's care, but we donated $600 to help Bennie)
If the specialist thinks the humane thing to do is to let him go, then I will be there with him to help him cross over.
He is such a dear, big lamb of a boy. Still trying to purr. :(

I hope he gets a chance with the specialist. Any idea why he's so congested? A sweet orange tabby (emaciated too) I had here a few weeks ago (Cheddar was rescued by Leslieflenner) had a high temp. and was wheezing so I popped half a Zithromax tablet down his throat. The next morning his temp was way down and the wheezing and heaving in his chest was gone! You may want to give that a try...I would. HUGS!!
When I was too weak, for the second time, to even raise my head, I laid it in her hand, and she said she was my furever Mama, and she let me go.

I'm so sorry! I had missed this thread until today and as I read I hoped that handsome Ben Purr would have a long happy life here on earth. Now he is healthy and running happily at the Bridge.

You did your best Rose. Sweet Ben is purring happily away at the Rainbow Bridge and thanks you for easing his way there.
he'll be awaiting you in years to come, with open arms and purrs... you did what you could, no less, he knows that. whoever left him, will answer to the higher power (if that is the case). He was, and you were, lucky to find each other. He had several days of lovin'-- way better than passing unloved and forgotten like so many strays are. You are an angel, he is an angel. I know you loved him and you still can! He's with all of our passed on pets... (actually THAT gives me comfort! that he's with my siamese Dashielle and Cheops...and Tilly, Varney, etc) I think we'll see them all again. And at minimum, they are no longer suffering.
