I've got that kennel for my larger transport dogs. Now I'm going to be nervous about using it. Poor little lab.

I'm going to use Zip ties on mine, I also use them. I'll post pics of what I did when I'm done. You can buy Zip's in a large bag full of them, so when you need to fold the crate cutting and replacing the ties won't be hard, or expensive task.Quote:

OMG! We just got Riley that kennel! I had no idea! Anyone know what the company is doing to fix the problem?
Ok, here is how I made mine safer. You can't lift the top off at all, not even an inch. They are working wonderfully! And they are REALLY strong so no worry there.
Here are some pics..
This Zip Tie is on the front of the crate, by the door. I found I only needed one on this side, but it might very with crates.

On the back of the crate I (side with no door) I found I needed two to keep it secruly shut.

Then, so the dog wouldn't chew on the zip ties I cute the left over off and got this (front side)

I would say there are at LEAST 30 to 35 in here, this bag cost my dad around 2 dollars

Hope this helps anyone else! And if you use these make sure you check if they are tight enough by pulling on the top of the crate.

Jasper's crate is like that also, thats for the zip tie pictures, I bought some tonight :D
from what I heard the person put up that webpage after the company refused to do anything about it. they said they would refund the money for the pup and the kennel provided she provided proof of purchase, so she did and they said it was not good enugh she got mad put up that site the manufactures saw it and they are going to refund the pup and the kennels but they are refusing to make the kennel safer.
My boyfriend and I just got a labrador puppy, and, will be looking for large crates soon. Right now, he's only 7.7 pounds, so, he's using my cat's. :) But, I will certainly look more carefully at kennels than I probably would have now that I've seen this site. That lab, Jasmine, was stunning, and, I'm sure an amazing puppy. It made me cry to read how she died. That must have been so confusing and frightening for her. :( I will definitely NOT buy that kennel, and, I will share this story with employees and consumers alike any time I'm somewhere the product is sold. That's awesome the steps the company is taking, but, it seems to me the product is obviously unsafe. Thanks for posting that!
That is such a tragic story. I fought tears as I read it. I also have that crate. Having read the whole post, I read with great interest the one about the zip ties. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for the wonderful (an very helpful) tip. I am going to do that immediatly to mine.
