I just got a new litter box, its a hooded litter box. I threw out the old litter box. Cubby just peed on the floor. I cleaned that up, and I took the hood off of the hooded litter box, how can I get him use to it quickly? My husband says that he will not put up with Cubby peeing on the carpet, that will have to be replaced because of him. Please let me know.

Take him and put his paws in the litter so he knows it's the potty box. I'd leave the hood on the box.
Keep an eye on things. If your little guy has been using the litter box ok up until now it may be just the change in boxes. If he continues to pee outside the box or other places have him check out by your vet, it could be sign of urinary tract infection. Butterscotch urinated outside our bedroom door (very unlike him) that's what it ended up being. Antibotic and he was fine.
What I did when I changed litterboxes was to put a clump of their pee and poo in the new box. Then it smelled like the old one and I had no trouble getting them to use it.
He just went and used it, after I dug for him. He was afraid of it, it's about twice the size of his old one. So maybe now that he used it once he will keep going. Just one more dumb question, he just took a poop, (I know sounds sick) will he more than likely use it now because he did poop in there?

Yes, he should start using the box. It doesn't matter which body function he did in the box first it's the fact he figured out the new box was his potty :)
Cubby just urinated in his box. After he did use it the first time I caught him trying to urinate on the carpet again, I put him in the box and he jumped out right away. But I just went in to the bathroom with him and watched him and he used. I of course screamed WOOHOOO! and he turned at looked at me and meowed at me. Then I gave him some treats. So maybe he will keep using it. I hope I don't have to go in there everytime with him. Also I have noticed that both times he has used it I have had to dig for him. I don't think he likes the new litter I bought today, but he uses it and covers it up but he wont dig for some reason. Oh well as long as he uses it. I will go buy his normal litter tomorrow while I'm out and about.

New Box AND New Litter is a LOT to change all at once!!
I'd strongly suggest you continue using the "old" but *FAMILIAR* litter
for a while longer!

I ran out of his normal litter and had to make a quick run to the store around time. I'm a new driver and I am still afraid of driving in busy parts of town, the store I went to didn't have his normal litter but I got the closest thing to it. But he is digging on his own now. I have been having to dig for him all night. I feel like I'm potty training a 2 year old :rolleyes: But it's worth it. He has gone potty in there serveral times so far as long as I am in there with him. :confused: I think he has trust issues. He goes into the bathroom and crys until I go in there to watch him. Not sure why he is doing this. I think it's a sign of trust and hes afraid of it still but he turns and looks at me every time before he enters it. So we'll see what happens.

It's being a good detective. Process of elimination as to "why" this is all happening.
Try to get his regular litter tomorrow see if his behavior gets back to normal.
You are finding out unfortunately the hard way felines don't like abrupt changes.
Sounds like this is more behavior issue (dislike for new litter) than health issue (UTI problem) but if things don't improve it's worth a call/trip to the vet just to make sure it's not health issue.
This morning I ran to get breakfast for my husband and me, when I got back hubby told me that Cubby urinated on the floor while I was gone. Cubby is currently locked in the bathroom until the store opens to get his regular litter. If this doesn't stop my husband will not tolerate it, and he will get rid of him :( So I hope his regular litter will work for him. Please pray that it does.

From your post in "cat health" Cubby has UTI. You hubby needs to be more patient and owes you big apology, hum maybe nice dinner out and flowers might work ;)
Well I got Cubby's new litter along with his bladder infection. He also has something wrong with his kidneys. So I will find out what's all going on with him in 2 weeks. We have another vet visit.

Your husband sounds too controlling. He needs to stop threatening you about Cubby. What is he going to do if you have children and it uses the bathroom on the floor or tears something up someday? He needs to respect you and the cat you love. Deal with that after you deal with Cubby's problems. I don't like to see cats lives threatened like that. Stand up for your cat. Good luck to Cubby :)
After we talked to the vet hubby felt really bad about what he said. Hubby no longer feels that way since Cubby had a health problem. All things around here are cool now. Cubby is eating like a pig and using his box. :D He loves his food, he keeps trying to open up the bag. This week I plan on going back tot he vet's office and picking up 2 or 3 of the 20 lbs bags of his food. It is alot cheaper to get the big bags than it is to get the small bags. Also that way I will be set for 3-5 months with the 20 lbs bags.
Hubby also isn't as controling as it sounds. He get's mad about Cubby peeing on the floor. Especially if we have to replace the carpet for the cat. You know what I'm saying. We live in an apartment right now. If there are any smells comeing from the carpet that smells like cat pee we will have to pay to replace the carpet. Hubby was very mad about all of this. But he now understands why Cubby was doing it. :D

Now that I have 9 cats, a 20lb bag lasts about 2 weeks also. LOL!
You can get some Simple Solution are Nature's Miracle for the spots Cubby left on the carpet. Either one will eliminate the odor. They're both available at most pet stores.

I'm glad to hear that your husband apologized, if you are concerned about your cat, the last thing you need is for yours or Cubby's happiness to be threatened. All animals need their time to adjust to new situations, just as humans do. :)
My female cat was given a tidbit of Chick-fil-a chicken about a month ago and was throwing up all over the carpet. I live in an apartment too and my fiance is anal about the carpet staying clean as well. However, instead of threaten the cat or me, he got down on his hands and knees and scrubbed the carpet and went out and bought Resolve even though it was me that gave her the chicken. Carpets are cleanable, remind him of that :D Our kitties are irreplaceable. She was taken to the vet and is all better now too :D No more chicken for her!

after i clean the area that's been peed on i cover it with tin foil and put a bowl on top of it. pitter and patter think there's food in the bowl and won't eat and pee in the same place(huh, can you blame them!):p
