Twisterdog, I know you are worried. My mom had to have her aortic (did I spell that right) valve replaced several years ago. She had a congenital problem and it was beginning to restrict her blood flow and it restricted her on what she could and couldn't do. The surgery is intense, but we felt good knowing that open heart surgery is done so frequently and with so much success. Mom did great. She swears to this day that the worst part of the whole process was when they did the catherization the day before the surgery. Turned out that she was allergic to the dye they used and her blood pressure dropped dramatically. It was very scary. But her recovery went well and she felt so much better after it was done. Her energy level increased dramatically. I think she almost wished she had done it sooner.
Best of luck to your mom. I will definitely keep her in my prayers.

Thanks, everyone.
Her surgery is Wednesday, Aug 20 and the catherization is Tuesday, Aug 19. I probably won't be online for a while, as she will be in ICU at least 5-7 days, and who knows how long after that before she is released. *sigh* Wolf-Q, want to come play scrabble at the hospital with me? ;)
That is exactly what my mom is going through, except her heart problems were caused by rheumatic fever as a child.Quote:
She had a congenital problem and it was beginning to restrict her blood flow and it restricted her on what she could and couldn't do.
Sending your mom lots of good get well wishes for her surgery
on Wed.

If your Mom is in relatively good health, I'm sure everything will go just fine. I know a few people who have had open heart surgery and they are doing very well. They say they feel like a whole new person.
Your Mom and you will be in my prayers. Please let us know how she is doing. Hugs to you both.
