Use to have dialup, but in January switched to BROADBAND:D :D
Don't have to play Freecell during downloads anymore.!
I have DSL at my dads and Cable at my moms..We have 4 comps hooked to the same internet connection at my dads so DSL is the best for that I believe :D
I have cable hookup from Charter because my my brother works there!:D
DSL, and I love it!!!
Broadband! Definitely Rules!:D
I have Cable Modem from RoadRunner Time Warner.
I have dial-up connection, it`s not so bad....most of the time!:D
Christine
I have a Road Runner Cable modem.
Broadband Cable, of course!
Sigh........the ancient AOL dial-up.............(I play Spider Solitaire, not Freecell, while waiting for Pet Talk to load ;) )
I'm just too cheap to pay extra for DSL, and I'm paranoid about broadband because it puts you on a "network" along the cable route. It took us a year just to decide to spend the extra $10 a month for a second phone line so we weren't tying up the phone with our Internet - I have to be dragged into the 21st century kicking and screaming, I guess! :p

Woohoo, lucky me, I have AOL.
Everyone we know keeps badgering us to get Optimum or other kinds of dial-up, but I myself do not want to change. Simply because I don't want to lose my nice e-mail account and all my favorites and files. Plus, it goes a bit faster than Netscape and some of the others I've known. But hey, I'm not paying the bill, so that's just me.
AOL has to be connected to the internet to have anything internet-wise run; Netscape, Internet Explorer, AIM, Trillian, etc. They all run on AOL's power. So if AOL has to close (and it does have to close A LOT), then everything else goes bye-bye.
dialup
ditto..what ACG&S said.
DSL through earthlink. I needed a dial up for when i travel, which made DSL a better option here than cable (here you dont have a dialup option). its 49 a month for "always on DSL", with 20hrs of dialup free, with lots of local numbers for when i travel.
at 49 it was actually the same price as a second phone line and dialup.
i LOVE it.
cable modem and we love it.
I just have dial up connection up until this month it was free, and has been for nearly 2 years, but now i have to pay, trouble is with free ones that dont notify u, your computer just wont work, we do have jetstream here , its more expensive and fast, dont know what broadband and cable are? explain plz
Cable :)
Cable : )
We have broadband at home (yes, it has spoiled us). I believe its a T1 at work.
We have cable. The best part is that Mark's work pays for it because he has a home office.
Cable:D
And others who are "too cheap." I always thought the same way....until I got DSL at work. Now I would be more than willing to pay for it at home....if we could just get it! :( Once you have cable or DSL, you will hate dial-up if you ever have to go back. Trust me. As I said, I have DSL at work, and dial-up at home. I am very rarely on at home...well..first of all because Terry is on a lot...but mostly because I can't take it. It takes forever to get just one page of Pet Talk.Quote:

And I know with DSL, and I would think it would be the same with cable, most of the modems these days come with some sort of "firewall" protection. That way, even though you're "on" all the time, others can't "see" your computer or have access to it.
Broadband is definitely the way to go. I may be forced to settle for cable since it seems we'll never be able to get DSL. :(
We are cheap!
We have dial-up!
We did the free 3 month trial with AOL Broadband but cut it off when the free part was up, I refuse to pay that much for internet. We loved the speed though!
Cable does put you on a wide-area network, but there are strong firewalls you can put onto your computer (both hardware and software.) We have MacAfee. If you have it on the highest security, you have to "train" it which sites to accept freely thru the firewall. So for awhile you'll be getting a screen that fairly shouts, warning! Something wants access! There have been more than a few suspicious bits of programs that I denied access to, so it works.
I have Juno Broadband. It's only $5 extra per month and IS faster than dial-up. I'm just waiting for DSL prices to come down before I sign up.
I have AOL, and I love it!:) ;)
I still have a dial up connection through Netzero. I'm also waiting for the prices to come down. Most of the time it's not too bad.
