Oh Gary, I am so very sorry to hear this sad news. Is there any other option for you than amputation? If you haven't already, you might want to consider a second opinion. My prayers are for you and that you'll be able to keep your kitty companions. Many here are on your side and willing to help in any way possible. Please keep us updated on your situation. Sending [[[[[HUGS]]]]] to you.
Gary, you will be in our prayers.
Oh my. I certainly hope you do not have to lose your foot and I hope you can stay there at the Found Cat Hotel and help all the kitties you've been helping for all these years.
You will be in my thoughts.
I'm so sorry to hear this Gary.........:(
Just like Momcat I would like to advise you to het a second opinion asap...!
Take care Gary!
Lut
Oh my!!!! - distressing news for sure. But like others have said - get a second opinion - and a third if necessary. Prayers that all will work out for the good - both for you and all of your beloved kitties too.
By all means, Gary, get a second (at least) opinion.
We are praying for you and sending all our loving energies.
:love::love::love::love::love::love::love::love:
When you get the second opinion, can you ask about home care services to care for your feet? Ontario Health should cover something like that but your MD would need to order it.
Hugs Gary. Get a second opinion and prayers for a good outcome.
Prayers for the best outcome possible, Gary!
I would think there is money available from the government to renovate your home if it has to be done.
Praying it doesn't come to that!
Oh dear, this does go along with diabetes, sad to say. I am so sorry to read this, Gary.
Have you already been for wound care? Do you already have dead tissue? Don't let gangrene develop or you could be in for a serious health battle.
Prayers from RI.
Gary, an amputated foot does NOT mean a wheelchair! I have known many diabetics in my life (it runs in my family) and with an amputated foot, you can use a walker or crutches until you can have a prosthetic made. Do not settle for a wheelchair! If you need your foot amputated do so, your life may depend on it. but don't let them strap you to a wheelchair. Not at all necessary. You would just need to have someone take care of your kitties until you make are fully recovered.
Oh God! I am returning today to PT, and sadly this is the first post I find :(
Uncle Gary, please do as our friends here say! please get a second opinion! Maybe there's another (better) option for you..
You're in my prayers as well, please keep us updated.
Love,
Astrid and her boys
I agree that losing one foot does not mean a wheelchair--- and I would certainly be getting a few more opinions unless time is of the essence.
Don't sell your home just yet, you might be pleasantly surprised---Good luck to you.
I am getting a second opinion from a Doctor Meyer who thinks that Doctors amputate too often and he has saved many people from having to go through that pain.
They would have amputated yesterday , the money hungry ghouls.
Medicine in Canad is far from perfect and my Cats have no place to go.:(
I am glad you found a good doctor.
And remember, Gary, losing a foot (I hope you keep yours!!) does not mean a wheelchair. There have been amazing advances in medicine. Remember the man who ran in the Olympics on two prosthetic legs?
HUGS and prayers going out!:)
Hyperbaric (high-pressure) oxygen therapy has been used in healing wounds. You might want to ask the 2nd doctor about that. Take care!
Gary!!!
I saw a few candles with your name on them, so here I am....You got a lot of really go info here. Hyberic(sp) is a good thing to help with wound healing. And ask katladyd said there are other options.....I know you are feeling pretty bad right now, esp for your cats, but God would not let anything bad happen to you or the Found Cats!!! PRAYERS for you, I am requesting that the Angels' Army be there to give you comfort!!! Sandra
You're doing the right thing here, Gary. With the way medicine has advanced there may well be other less drastic and painful options for you. As you can, please let us know how things work out with Dr. Meyer. We care about you and we're on your side. Amigo's paws are crossed in prayer for his Uncle Gary.
It is a bad infection , and it does not help that they gave me the wrong antibiotics.
Thank You for your prayers , I am going to need them:eek:
I am so glad that you got that second opinion! I hope the new antibiotics will clear up the infection.
Major prayers going out that the right antibiotics will heal you quickly!
Major prayers from us too.:love::love::love::love::love::love::love:
Many prayers for you. I'm glad that you got a second opinion. Praying the new antibiotics are working. Keep with this new guy and don't let this slide.
I am getting a Sulfa based anti biotic now momcat.
I was wondering what else I can do to dry the wound and get rid of the infection where there is a natural choice???
Just seeing this Gary. I will be praying for you.
Gary, could you ask your doctor for an antibiotic wound powder? When I worked with horses we used this along with antibiotics for open wounds that could not be dressed (there's lots of places on a horse you can't bandage.) Wonder Dust was one we used for slow healing, open, infected sores. It really worked!
Oh well few people shared good thing here.
While I don't understand your comment, it appears that you don't understand this community of friendly, helpful, caring and compassionate individuals. Not only do they care for pets - but they care for their fellow human as well. I've learned many things here over the years - not only regarding animal care and compassion - but also much about those that are the members here because they love their pets, other folks pets,, and other folks too. I've made some very wonderful and lasting friendships - and I didn't do it by casting flippant remarks.
That being said - MERRY CHRISTMAS to you, williamjack.
Hope that you are continuing on a positive course, Gary. And a very sincere MERRY CHRISTMAS to you and all of the Found Cats.
I read it was he is glad that a few people shared good things. At least I hope that is true, I was glad as well, I didn't know hyperbaric treatment was good for that!
Guess I'm in a pi$$y mood, since I didn't see it that way. Go ahead and read his "comment" in my thread about Wolfy eating the raisins too - sounds like another of this member's crass comments. I read between the lines more than most folks......................That "oh well" at the start of the comment here, was a dead giveaway - IMO of course.
Prayers are on the way from me too Gary!
Thank You for all your kind words and now I have two things to ask the Doctor .
Knowledge is power.
You can also ask your MD about getting home care services to come out and check the wound and change the bandages.
Maybe that person doesn't speak English as his first language...giving him the benefit of the doubt.
good luck Gary!
