First test pictures with my new tele lens (some new added in #20)

Thought I'd share. My new tele lens (Tamron AF 70-300mm 4-5.6 Di SP VC USD) arrived today; it's my early birthday/Christmas gift. Asked my mom if I could have it now as I'm more than unhappy with my old crappy 75-300mm Canon lens. Okay, started testing the new one today, but I need to test it in some more difficult situations to decide whether this one is really better than my old lens. Hope I'll feel well enough tomorrow to take a trip to the next wildlife park for more pictures, especially of birds in flight.

Of course, my girls also had to model for me. Usually I'm taking their pictures with my 60mm macro lens, so these may look quite different.

Yes, hope so, too! The colors are somewhat different, I guess that is why Luna's eyes look so clear here. I like how this one turned out. :)

I remember when Emma was a little (relatively) puppy! She looks so majestic in these!

I really like all of the pictures. So sharp & clear. I have missed seeing Emma pictures. She is such a beautiful dog.:love:

Beautiful pictures. I believe that you could take good pictures with a bad camera. To me, your pictures are art.

Hi, Emma and Dino! Hello, beautiful Luna and Lily! (Emma, I smiled when I read that you have green teeth from eating grass, he hee!)

I really like the test shot of the bird on the grass! That made me think of autumn because of the golden color behind the bird.

For quite some time now, I've been convinced there's NOTHING you can't do with a camera, Kirsten! And these prove it again. Your pictures of the little bird are extraordinary and the background is perfect. As for a favorite - forget about it, impossible to pick just one. What a beautiful dog Emma is, you've captured her personality as well as her beauty. When it comes to Luna and Lily I can almost feel their soft coats and hear them purr. Dino is quite a cutie too.

When it comes to photography, you're WORLD CLASS!. Thank you so very much for bringing sunshine into this very dreary day!

Those of Emma are STUNNING!! If I didn't already love rotties, I would have fallen in love with them due to these pictures.. My GOODNESS!! Those are BEAUTIFUL!

I see nothing wrong with any of the pictures. Your eyes capture things ours don't see until you show them to us through your pictures. I have never seen a picture of your that wasn't worthy or blowing up, printing out and framing! I love seeing the world through your camera lens!

As always, loved seeing your photo's.

As everyone else already stated, your photos are amazing!!! I especially like the third pic of Emma. Even the random shots of "nothing" are beautiful!

These are absolutely stunning photos! :) LOVE my 55-300mm Nikon lens - it does come in handy for wildlife/nature photos, doesn't it!

Lovely to see your photos, as always. We have not seen Emma in some time, what a lovely lady she is now!

The cats, the bird, the random shots, all are quite sharp.

I too don't think that you could ever take a bad picture. These are all great.:)

Thanks for taking a look at these pictures. :) Did some more testing with that lens by now, and I'm really beginning to like it.

To those who think I cannot take a bad picture: Believe me, I can!! There are thousands of bad pictures on my hard drive, and even more went straight to the trash bin. :D And there are many things I still have to learn!

Not sure, but judging from the legs, I would assume it's a young wagtail.

And to those who love Emma:
She's really hard to photograph lately, that's why I'm barely taking pictures of her. For some reason, it was much easier when she was a pup!

Some more test shots I made today, near a little pond in the forest. Wanted to try some different things..


Of course, photos like these dragonfly pictures should have been taken with a macro lens. However, for my 60mm 1:1 macro lens, I would have to be very close, and they would escape before I could even get my camera ready! But I was pleased to see that the tele lens did a fairly good job here:

These ducks were about 50 metres away, and I was surprised how clear they still are. My old lens couldn't have done that, especially the black and white contrasts in the male duck would have been completely messed up!

Your latest pictures are awesome. You've inspired me to get out my camera again and take up the art again. Need a telephoto for the Digital and I might purchase one anyway. The manual has a telephoto but processing film is so expensive these days.

I'm going to put up pictures of my kitties and the upstate mountain area where I live. They won't be great as I am way out of practice, but we will see. Perhaps I'll remember what I've forgotten.

Everyone who can take pictures with an analog camera has my deepest respect! :) I think I would fail miserable if I couldn't view my pictures right after I took them, to adjust the settings, if needed...

It's funny - children nowadays expect to be shown the picture on the camera right after it has been taken - they have no concept that it used to take days and even weeks to get film developed, and pictures printed out before anyone could see them! And I do like digital cameras so much better because as I have have mentioned, I am not the most patient photographer in the world, so I'd rather the ten pictures I take to get one good one not cost me anything! :)

Well, thank you. After I invested in the digital I was very frustrated because it had all of these automatic settings. So I had to read the book to figure out where to adjust the f-stop and ISO settings. That was so annoying.

I do enjoy looking at the pictures right away, too. That way I know if there is some glare interfering with the picture. I also like the auto-focus since my vision, while good these days, wasn't always so good, and focusing took a lot of time.

Kirsten, you have a natural talent, and I hope I'm not stepping on toes when I tell you I think you should try to publish your photos. Even if it's just on your website.

Children have no concept of patience for anything these days.

I used to take 5 or ten pictures to insure I would get one good picture. It was called "burning film". Of course Tri-X-Pan was the cheapest 400 film to use. Color film was expensive when I started. Later because of popularity it became the cheapest and BW became expensive. I prefer a good BW picture. The color doesn't get in the way.
