Okay, call me INSANE!!!!! UPDATE WITH PICTURE!!

I was on FB yesterday when I noticed a plea from Mary (Medusa) about a 25 year old cat that is being given up because the owner is going into a nursing home. The cat is in danger of being killed.

I emailed the person and realized it's our own Melissa!! She said Sandy the Cat will be going to Petco to be shown for adoption. Sadly, lots of people had tons of sympathy but no one could adopt.

I've gotta be outta my ever loving mind, but I see absolutely no reason why this old lady has to die because no one stepped up.

So, call me crazy, but she's coming to my house!!! I am SO aware that I'm pushing the envelope with the pecking order with my crew. But Sandy's got a few good years left in her. Let her be happy.

Awww, I also saw this on FB. I am so glad she is going to a PT home to live out the rest of her LONG life. :) I know you will do everything you possibly can to make this work.

With Bertie, the problem is not with my kitties, but with Bertie. She doesn't like other cats. :p

I'm not trying to be a hero here. I'm simply trying to let a senior kitty live out her years in peace and quiet, rather than the alternative, which simply is NOT an option in this case.

The couple that previously owned Sandy were going into an assisted living siutation. Since the dog was there first, they gave Sandy up. Makes me sick.

Melissa is TRYING to keep her local so she won't have to travel. There is a woman who is willing to TRY and foster her. If, after two weeks, Sandy doesn't adapt to the situation (a dog and two other cats) she'll bring her back. I can already see where this is going. It takes FAR longer than 2 weeks to acclamate a cat.

Do I think I'm pushing the envelope here with MY fur crew? Absolutely. But I'll deal with it IF and when there are any issues.

Hopefully, Sandy will adjust fine in the foster situation down in PA, just to save her the stress of traveling. She may simply want a comfy pillow to rest her old bones somewhere in a puddle of sunshine - not too much to ask. Her age may help at this point, as she's less likely to put much energy into objecting to anyone or anything!

Thanks for the explanation. I just didn't put everything together. Anyway, you might be pushing it but you never know until you try.

Bertie would be alright here if she would chill out. My cats are not even bothering her. She has ventured further into the room.

Once I find her a home, there is a orange kitty without a home. He'll do fine with my crew. That will be the last. I hope.

Here is Sandy!!! I spoke with Melissa last night and we decided that rather than keep bouncing her from place to place, she will come live with me. The woman who showed interested in her backed out, as I knew she would. I've seen it SO many times.

My gut feeling is Sandy will do fine in my bedroom with old man Bartie. Both are quite elderly and want nothing more than to eat and sleep with some loving in between. As long as I can bribe my crew with food, I think everything will go okay.

Because I have a 4 day pet sitting job this weekend, we're shooting for sometime next week. Just need to set up a transport from PA to CT.

Actually she maybe 26 because in 2004 she was at the vets and she was 19 years old then.

I will find out tonight for sure.

Ok she is actually 19 years old. She just turn 19 in Aug. 2011.

Sorry the person who related the information to me did it incorrectly. I spoke with the vets and they told me she's 19 yrs old right now.

Age is just a number. She's an oldie but goodie and she's ALL MINE!!!!

After MUCH consideration, and after speaking at length with Melissa, I've decided it is not in my cat's best interest to introduce another cat.

Sandy has chronic bladder problems and fleas. I am VERY hesitant bringing another cat in with fleas, as I had a HUGE problem with them in the past, and it took me months to get rid of them. Mollie Rose almost died from them. My gut feeling tells me her bladder problems are an underlying problem of kidney issues.

As a dear friend recently told me, "There comes a time when you have to say, 'I'd like to but I can't' " Unfortunately, this is one of those times. :(:(

I feel very badly about this. But I have to do what is best for my present crew. I know Melissa will find her a furrever home. :(:(

I just want everyone to know that Sandy was treated for fleas by her owner on Nov. 1st and it was called Hot Spot brand by Zodiac and it's a very bad flea medication to give your cats, esp. a 19 year old cat.

Due to her age, we have to wait a full 3 weeks in order to give her anymore flea medication.

I have revolution at home ready to give to her after 3 full weeks have gone by. All of my cats have flea medication on them and they are protected and Sandy got a bath this past weekend and I've been keeping up with flea combing her and she doesn't have any now.

Donna - I think that you have made the right decision. Everyone knows how much you care about animal's health and welfare, but you already have a full plate with the crew that you have. To bring in another - well - that might be bordering on reckless. You need to think of yourself and your crew first, before adding another kid to worry about. I know it's difficult to be practical sometimes, and your heart can overrule your head, but yes - sometimes you just have to say "enough is enough". This is exactly why I could never foster - I would be a huge failure! I'm certain that Melissa will do everything in her power to find someone to take this senior lady into their home for the remainder of her days. And I still will say "bless you" - just for even considering giving this kitty a place to spend the rest of her life. :love:
