Too bad that folks don't appreciate the "meat on the bones" look anymore, and find the walking skeleton to be more attractive! Some of the bulimic/anorexic models I have seen on t.v., are absolutely disgusting! I can't imagine anyone intentionally starving themselves to look as they do. And the sad part is, they truly believe that they look good that way!!!
It is sad, but there is a logic behind thinner models, which has unfortunately been taken to extremes. Designers chose thinner models, so the focus would be on the clothes, not the model's bodies and curves. They are essentially walking clotheshangers, but of course like most endeavors humans get involved in, we take it to the limit and beyond. Oh, thin is good? Well, thinner must be better, right? Not necessarily!
I think the size 14 of those days is not the size 14 of now days.
She looks good an healthy. :)
"All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring; Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king, the brunette shall become a blonde." - Wombat Tolkien
You certainly put that very well. Some of those models turn my stomach when I see the bones sticking out. But of course anorexic / bulimic people are mentally ill and never will see themselves as walking skeltons unless they are lucky enough to realize the need for treatment and stick with it. It makes me sad to see the teens who feel they have to look like that to be popular or liked.
And here I am fighting to put on a few pounds...
Years ago I was dating a Greek girl...she knicknamed herself Marilyn. She had a fetish....collected everything about Marilyn Monroe, and dyed her hair blonde, and even dressed like her.
I must admit tho....she did look a little weird with blonde hair and black eyebrows.....hee hee.
It's true, it's sad that everyone needs to feel like they have to lose weight to look good.
However, MOST teens and women in general agree that models are disgustingly thin. I think people now more look at celebrities, that are thin but still have some curves, as their models.
I wish I looked like them anyways!!
My main focus, especially now that I'm in college and learning all about health, is to be healthy!! I could lose about 10 to 20 pounds. I'm 5" 5' and 155 lbs. But my main focus is to eat healthier. I eat out nearly everyday and never eat veggies (unless its on a hamburger:p) and not enough fruit. And exercise more!
People should want to lose weight (if they are overweight) to better their health. Don't worry about the number on the scale! Do it for your long term health. Even thin people can be much more unhealthy than those with a little meat on their bones.
inch for inch, Marilyn would wear an 8 in today's sizing... just saying:D
This.
I've let my weight get out of control and after an episode the other day that turned out to be nothing but really made me face the fact that it COULD have been something bad. I'm now on a diet. well not even really a diet I'm just tracking my food and keeping my calories, fat, carbs, protiens etc in the target range it needs to be to help me lose this weight and get back to a healthier size :)
I've done the "I want to be skinnier" method of dieting and I always fail but now that it's really about my HEALTH I am sticking with it. I have to.
A friend of ours is REALLY tall and REALLY skinny but his cholesterol is off the charts. It's all about being healthy :) and some of us need to learn that lesson the hard way
A size 8 is a very reasonable size. Not too skinny and not to fat. If you look at her, she is curvy but not stick thin. No wonder men loved that body. I mean really what is not to love? And with that incredibly beautiful face and thick hair. Yup I can see why men liked her and then the best part.
She opened her mouth and her IQ was as remarkable as her beauty.
Too bad she suffered from mental health.
The mental health part yes, the other parts no.
