My hometown is flooded! (more pics in #11)

Temperatures were rising last weekend and all the snow we had was melting... the results: floods! Way too much water for our three rivers, so my hometown is severely affected by the floods; people say it's the worst we had since 1995.

Many of our streets are under water and blocked. Wanted to take a pic from one of our viewpoints high above the city, but no way to get there. :eek:

Oh dear, Kirsten! It looks like Venice! Are you able to get food, etc.?

I saw these on FB and thought the same as Mary. Are you able to get the necessary items like food and other supplies?

Thanks for your concern! My house is not affected, and it's no problem to get to the shops. Don't know about the people in the flooded houses, I guess most of them can still leave them through their backdoors.

Gosh, that's quite a bit of water! It looks pretty, though. Glad to hear you can get to the shops, but you better put your wellies on!

Oh no- that looks bad! I am glad to hear that your (and also Lily's and Luna's) paws can stay dry. I hope the water goes back soon.

We have the same situation in France, in some areas upper in the north.

Would it not be such a bad context, I would say your photos are wonderful, and the area looks great, with such nice colours in spite of the extremely grey sky.

I hope the flood waters go down soon and the people and the animals in the flooded areas are able to stay safe and have food and shelter.

Yes, it's a lot of water indeed, but I heard it's going down slowly now... However, if it starts raining the next days, the situation might become even worse.

But I read also something heartwarming today: The fire fighters rescued several bunnies and hens from a flooded garden, and now they're safe! :love:

Hope you don't mind, but I'm using the picture of the crow by the water as my desktop at work. I love his expression. . ."what are you lookin' at?" He doesn't seem to mind the water at all :p

These are absolutely stunning photographs, Kirsten, and they tell the story of what is happening in your home town so VERY, touchingly well.

Please send some to your local newspaper.. town or county (or whatever you have in Germany) web sites.. local TV stations.. network stations..

Really, I think people all around should see these. Those directly affected will respond and relate immediately to what they are saying, and all who love you folks coping with this and love your area will deepen their understanding of just what you are dealing with.

As usual your photographs are awesome and I do agree with Phesina, they should be seen by every local newspaper, tv or whatever media you have there.
I do hope the water will recede before any heavy rains come down.

My first thought was "OMG! Such gorgeous buildings and area being ruined". I'm glad you're OK. Your beautiful pictures made me re-realize how lucky I've been throughout our snowstorms. I guess the ducks didn't mind it one bit. The crow was amazing. Stay safe.

I was thinking the same thing. The pictures are gorgeous, but I hate to see what they're doing to those beautiful buildings. I'm glad to hear that your safe and your home wasn't affected.

Yes, it's sad what the water is doing to our buildings. However, the water is going back now, at least a little bit.

As for sending my pics to our local newspaper: they don't need mine, they already have lots of pictures on their websites, some of them much better than mine. Lots of people took photos of the flood.

Thank you very much for offering that! :love: But we're okay so far, I don't think we'll be running out of goods here. The water went back a little, but a new flood is expected at the weekend, maybe worse than before. We'll see...

I hope you guys don't get any more flooding or you will end up like Vicenza did back in November. There was a total of €1.4 billion in damage. There were 3 killed. All elderly people who got swept away by the rising river. There were places that were under 90 cm or 3 feet of water. The emergency crews actually couldn't use cars, trucks etc. They had to use boats to get around. It was madness. Stay safe & stay dry.

OMG, this looks bad! Such a beautiful town, and all this water... :( And just look at all these cars!!

So sorry to hear that people lost their lives! :(
