For my co-worker's Chi, Lucy - update 8/17

Could I please ask for good thoughts and prayers for my co-worker Lisa's Chihuahua, Lucy. Or I should say her daughter's Lucy. They adopted her about a year ago at the age of 9. She has a heart murmur and congestive heart failure. She was a foster dog for 2 years before she was adopted and Lisa thinks she was abused in a prior home. Her family (Lisa, her daughter and her husband) adore Lucy and she adores them, regularly asking for petting and snuggles.

She's having a really hard time with the hot summer weather. Her breathing is more labored and she sleeps in the recliner where she keeps her head higher than her body. Lisa's daughter is calling the doctor today to get an increase in Lucy's dose of Lasix (water pill). They love her so much and just can't handle the thought of losing her yet, even though she is almost ten years old. I'm leaky-eyed over this because I don't want her to struggle.

Prayers going out for Lucy, that a change in meds and some cooler weather will make her feel better. :love:

Is there any way to get her in an air conditioned environment? Or would she sleep on a cooling mattress like they have for dogs? Maybe put the mattress in the recliner for her?

Feel better soon Lucy. Myndi and Sparky know just how you feel, even tho their house has a.c. They hate to go outside where it is so hot - just like Mom! :eek:

Their house is air conditioned. Lisa told me she won't go outside to potty when it is very hot out - someone has to take her out and bring her back inside. She might have been in foster care for 2 years but for the past year she has been a very, very loved doggie girl. Thank you all again! :love:

She'll be in our prayers. This time of year the air is just so thick for even we humans sometimes. Try freezing a water bottle to put next to her for extra, localized "cool zone" help.

This is really bringing the tears here, Elyse. Poor little baby. I have the softest spot in the world for all Chihuahuas of course. My girls hate the heat too. I am sending mega loads of thoughts and prayers out for Lucy. I hope she can be as comfortable as possible and she is going to be cooling off and feeling much better soon.

Elyse, if the house is air conditioned is it cool enough for her? God love this little baby.

Update, Thurs 7/22 ... Lucy is doing better! She got an extra water pill and is keeping cool in her air-conditioned house. She has a vet visit scheduled for Saturday. Thank you, everyone for thinking of my co-worker's little one!

P.S., her dog-sister Sadie goes with Lucy on walks. When Lucy stops to rest, Sadie sits down next to her; and when Lucy is ready to go on, Sadie gets up again.

Thanks for the update, Elyse. I am thrilled!!! Praying for her to get better every minute. Bless little Sadie. What a good little sister. I hope her Mom can deliver some kisses to both of them from me.:)

Update for Saturday 7/24 - Lucy is feeling better! She got an extra water pill again and is staying indoors. Thank you, everyone for your thoughts and prayers!!

Please keep thinking positively and praying. Lucy has not had a good past few days and may have to cross the bridge. They have only had her a year and don't want to lose her just yet.

Update Monday 8/2. Lucy has a tumor the size of a plum in her chest cavity. She is still in good spirits and wants to be around her people. She sleeps on daddy's pillow or in his recliner.

I asked Lisa that. They can't because of her bad heart. She might also have a similar tumor in her abdomen. Family is having a hard time with this. Lucy is much loved :love:

I saw a picture of Lucy today. Color-wise, she is between Daisy and Delilah. She is holding her own :) She has become even snugglier than she was before, and her people are grateful for each day with her.

Thanks for the update. I hope that Lucy can be comfortable and remain with her family as long as possible.

I am so sorry to hear this, Elyse. How terribly sad. Me and the girls are saying our goodbyes to Lucy. My condolences to her heartbroken family.:(
