Poor Greyhound : (
This poor little guy needs some prayers because he is so brave.
Here's his story:
At the Animal hospital I work at, the Vet works closely with a program that adopts out X racing Greyhounds. He Neuters and spays them and does any other medical stuff they need before they go to new homes. Well this poor little guy came in last week really sick. His name isSteve he is gorgeous brindle greyhound. Just looking at this dog makes you feel so sad. He is the thinnest dog you have ever seen. He weighs 40lbs and is suppost to weigh about 70lbs!!! His problem is that he has cronic diarrhea. Everything he eats comes shooting out the other end. (poor guy) The Dr. has him on like 7 different meds and FP(full response) diet. It is fish and potatoes. We though he might be allergic to something in his food so thats why we gave him something hes never eaten before. But that hasn't helped. And the meds havn't helped him either. The Dr. scarred that we might loose Steve.
The thing that is so amazing is that Steve still is so happy and loving. I all I can do is give him love back. I bring him in the yard and play fetch. He loves it! but when I go to leave he stops and follows me around like he's in a heel position, and when I stop he goes in front of me and puts his chin on my stomache and looks up at me with his big deer like eyes that scream "Help me"
I hope we can help this dog. He deserve to be able to live and have a chance to find a great family because he is great dog.
I'll find out tomorrow how he's doing. ( I havn't seen him since tuesday)
wish him luck guys!!

Diana, please give Steve a huge hug and kiss from us. Those Greyhounds steal my heart every single time. Oh, if I just had the space for another one! :)
-
Please let dear, sweet, brave Steve know that we are all praying that he will recover and find that he will find that special home where he will be loved and cherished forever. What a courageous, loving boy. The tears are falling. Please God grant this sweet soul a chance at life. Hugs and kisses for you Steve.

Will send prayers for this poor baby.

Thanks guys for all the kind words.
Steve isn't doing any better but he isn't any worse either.
Last Wed the Dr. did an endoscopy and took some tissue samples of his stomach and intestine.
The results aren't back yet, so everyone is just waiting.
I just hope there is something we can do for him. I fear that the Vet is loosing hope:(

Poor sweet Steve..... :( Lots of prayers coming his way. Thank God you have an awesome vet!
-
C'mon Steve, you can do it!! You are in the Kendall's prayers too. Is there any more news?? Rinny was like that when we got him too...but obviously not to this extent because Pepto Bismol tablets took care of his. I hope Steve is continuing to improve albeit slowly.

Sending you healing prayers and hugs sweet Stevie. So happy to hear you're gaining some weight! Paws, tails and fingers crossed for good results on the biopsy!

Biopsy results
Well the results are in...the biopsy revealed that Stevie has Gastritis in his stomach, Enteritis in his intestine, and moderate Colitis in is colon.
The vet wasn't really happy with the results because there is no easy "cure" for these problems. Meaning there's not on medication you can put him on to cure it right away. It just seem that everything Stevie eats upsets his insides. The vet still seems to think that Stevie is allergic to something in dog food that casues him to have severe diarrhea. So right now Stevie's eating EN food. Its for gastrointestinal problems. But it's not doing anything. So tomarrow we're switching the food to Z/D made by science diet. It made for dogs that are allergic to food. And hopefully it will help...
But meanwhile Stevie has been so happy. I have become so attached to him...accually everyone at the animal Hospital has.
But the Vet said Stevie is in love with me. Stevie got out of the kennel and I was up front in the exam room with the door closed, and the vet came in and said Stevie was frantically looking for me. Around other people he's pretty aloof.
I know your thinking why don't you take him...believe me I would. I don't care if he has diarrhea and make a mess. But the problem is 1) the track still owns him and 2) my dogs aren't really fond of other dogs-especially males. I'd be afraid they would hurt him. But don't worry I'll do everything in my power to make sure nothing happens to him and he find the perfect home

Oh, dear Stevie. What a brave boy you are. What spirit, what courage! All of us here are praying that this new food will help settle your tummy. I know for sure that you are not lacking for love. Bless those kind, caring people who have openend up their hearts to you. Paws, tails, EVERYTHING crossed that you will be feeling better very soon! Love and hugs to you Stevie from Sandra, Cody and Star.

Oh poor Stevie!! I hope you get better soon.
When Killian was having trouble with his food and allergies when we first adopted him, he was put on Fish and Potato prescription dog food (made by Eukanuba). We also added salmon (omega-3) to help his hair loss. For him, it helped.

What was the history of this dog before he was adopted? Did he race? Was he adopted in this condition or did he start to lose weight afterward?
I'm wondering if a return to his track diet, essentially a raw diet, would help?
