Daisy - update post 43
We had to take Daisy to the vet on Monday. Over the weekend she became very wheezy and stopped eating. Daisy has never stopped eating before through any medical condition. She loves her food.
The vet could not hear very much as Daisy was wheezing so badly. She is terrified of going to the vet and the stress was making her pant, but there seemed to be fluid in her lungs. What the vet didn’t know was whether it was coming from an infection or possibly a heart condition. A slight heart murmur was detected when she had her annual boosters last year.
We had her at the vet two weeks ago to get ointment for her eye condition that flares up every now and again. At that time the murmur was no worse and her chest was clear.
So they did some tests. Her liver and kidney results were good, so they gave her a very light anaesthetic and took chest xrays. Some blood has been sent away to a lab for a specialist heart test, which was explained to me, but I don’t remember what it will show. The xray showed up a shadow on one lung. It is not clear whether that is being caused by an infection, a heart condition, or something else. The xrays are now being studied by a specialist laboratory.
Daisy was in an oxygen tent for 15 minutes before we took her home and she seemed to perk up a bit after that. She also got an antibiotic injection. She has been drinking and yesterday she ate about a third of a portion of dried food. She wouldn’t touch fresh chicken last night.
I’ll keep you updated as and when I get the test results.

Prayers for daisy
One of my cats in the UK, called Hansel presented like this with severe wheezing & very out of sorts - took him to the vet & he told me Hansel had asthma, due to the spring weather we were experiencing - gave him a steroid shot & he was right as rain in a couple of days. Hope Daisy has something simple like that & nothing serious - all the best to you & Daisy.

Thank you all so much for keeping Daisy in your thoughts and prayers. Yesterday if anything she seemed slightly more lethargic than the day before, but she did eat a little meat last night and again this morning. She also seemed brighter this morning.
I will certainly ask the vet about the possibility of asthma, although you can hear fluid when she is breathing. Would that be the case with asthma?
All kisses and hugs have been delivered! :)
-
Karen I wouldn't think asthma would involve fluid, but I'm not a vet.
Continued prayers for poor Daisy....take care and let us know how things go with the vet.
-
Karen I am so sorry to hear about this. I have no idea- but after what happened to Tigris all production of fluid will worry me.
Sending hugs to you and Alec and Daisy.

This sounds like she may have a case of pneumonia. I remember that shortly after my brother and his family adopted their puppy that she got very sick and she also had fluid in her lungs and the doctor said it was pneumonia. Luckily they caught it in time and she recovered and has been with them for several years now.
I hope that whatever is causing this that Daisy will recover quickly and then remain healthy from now on. She remains in my thoughts and prayers. I've been telling Storm about her and this morning his eyes were a bit weepy like he had been crying. Storm continues to send Daisy his  and kisses.
-
Feel better soon Daisy, and I hope all your tests come back fine.
-
I hope that that beautiful gray girl starts feeling better and that the vets can find out what is causing the problems.
-
Oh no! Prayers going out that she heals up - sounds like pneumonia to me. Poor baby!
-
When we got home tonight, Daisy had eaten more meat and some dried food during the day. Her purr seems stronger tonight too. I really am starting to hope that it is "only" pneumonia and not something worse.
Thank you all so much!
-
Good girl, Daisy, keep being strong for us!
-
Oh, I continue to hope that she is alright!!
-
Wonderful to hear that Daisy has eaten.
(That's our daily discussion here regarding Filou ;))
I am also clinging to the pneumonia theory. If she eats it must mean that she smells something- so that is a good sign too.
Paws crossed.
-
...and how's our Daisy this morning? Any improvement? Good thoughts and prayers still coming!
-
I hope to read an update that Daisy is stronger today, eating better and that the pneumonia will soon be a thing of the past.
-
Karen, it's a good sign that she has got her appetite back. :) Is that the Royal Canin Senior she's eating? I hope she will continue to feel better all the time!
Kisses to Daisy - and to Sam and Jessica, too.
-
That Daisy was eating a little more yesterday is encouraging for sure, how's she doing today Karen?
Prayers and positive thoughts continuing.
-
So sorry, I am just now seeing this. But I am glad to hear it sounds like Daisy is getting better. With some antibiotics and a little PT Power she should be good as new soon. :)
-
Just popped in to see any updates on Daisy. Prayers continue for a good outcome for her.
