Roxey went to the vet

She's had some lameness in her back leg for years, but it's never been too bad until now.
She was having problems getting up, sitting down and sometimes walking after she'd been outside for a while or sleeping. We have been giving her glucosamine chondroitin pills for a while with not a lot of help, so I made an appointment to have a VOM treatment done on her last night. He also gave her a prescription for Rimadyl 100mg (to be given only as needed)
Needless to say she wasn't thrilled, but the doc said she was a really good girl.

Today she seems to be doing better, but still favoring her left leg.

Unfortunately he also found a bad tooth that might need to come out so she'll be having a dental done on Tuesday morning.

Please keep her in your thoughts.

Poor Roxey girl, its so hard to see them getting older. :( Nebo is not as active as he used to be though luckily I haven't noticed any lameness, he just sleeps a lot. I'll be keeping Roxey in my thoughts, hope her leg gets better and her dental will go well.

Poor baby. I hope she feels better soon. After many experiences with Autumn I've come to the conclusion that supplements don't work unless you start them real young. My next dog may be on extra glucosamine from puppyhood.

Hope the VOM Treatment works.
Don't give up on the Glucosamine - most Vets agree it takes a while =
1-2 months - for it to start to have an effect on sore joints.
SmokeMutt took awhile before his knee improved. He and Cinder have
been *poppin* Glucosamine for most of their lives.

WE just went to see Doc Mike last week ... Cinder's Fur Coat was lookin a
little *shabby* and :eek: her beautiful tail developed a "worn spot" on the
top near the base of her tail. :(
We got a "topical spray" for first aid AND a pricey THYROID lab test.

Doc called this afternoon - Lab says she has Hypo-Thyroidism :(
Her new Thyroid PILLS will be in tomorrow.
Hopefully, when her Thyroid level comes up, the fur will improve.

I'm so NOT ready for them to get "old". :(

I'm sorry to hear about Roxy and Cinder. :( I know how it is with dogs getting old. :( Glucosamine didn't help Honda either, but I found out she had cancer in the hip, not joint problems. :-/ I hear it takes awhile for it to take affect though... so give it some time. I hope both of them feel better.

Poor Roxey.:( I hope the treatment will lessen the aches & pains.
I've noticed that Smokey is having a problem getting himself up on to
the big bed lately of managing the climb up the back stairs sometimes.
I hate to think of him getting older.:(

I hope your Roxey gets to feeling better. Years ago my dog Bob was on rimadahl half a pill in the morning & half at night. He got to the point where I took him outside around the house so he didn't have to climb down the stairs at night for bedtime. He would jump the last two steps & I knew that was not good on his joints & his eye sight was failing also at the time. He did fine going up the steps though. I even would carry him to avoid him jumping off of anything.

Aww, I hate to hear this. I hope the treatment and the meds help. I hope the dental goes well also. I'll be thinking about her. Give her some hugs from me and make sure you let us know how she is doing.

Hope Roxey feels better. Bear was on Deramax and a gluc/chondroitin for years which kept him fairly stable, he had severe arthritis when I adopted him at 5.

Well, I'm an idiot:o I just realized what time it was and started getting ready to take her in...duh, I fed her this morning:rolleyes:
So now it's next Tuesday. Wish me luck in remembering lol.

She's been doing better than before last weeks appointment and I've only had to give her a total of 2 pills so I'm happy about that.
I'm really glad we don't have any types of steps for her to have to worry about. But then again this is how she acts most of the time. Once she gets that adrenaline going she's a wild woman:D

Poor Roxey... Sounds like she's feeling a lil' better though. She sure looked peppy in the video. I had to laugh at how her and Bon play. It's just like the Collies. Spin in a circle, barking and darting at each other, but without actually touching. Don't wanna get too rough, cuz somebody might get hurt. :)

I'm so glad to hear that Roxey is feeling better! I love that Husky girl. :love: Gonzo is getting sore, too... I give him gluco/chondro just as a preventative. All of the original PT dogs are getting older! But they still look amazing, if you ask me.

Lol, I love the video. :) Precious doggies :) I always worry that I'm going to forget and feed the dog that is going in. Lol I hope all goes well, and it looks like she's doing alright :)

Well in spite of all the snow that's falling we made it to the vets office this morning.
I remembered no food and water and the appointment (yippe for me:p) I had to put a note in her dog food bowl. Hey, whatever works!

I hated leaving her but of course she didn't have a problem leaving me. She happily went with the vet tech. I guess I should be happy she doesn't mind going with other people.

Anyway, please keep her in your thoughts and I'll update when I get my girl back home!

Right about now I'm sure she wishes she would have lol.

Of course it all went fine and she's home now.
She's still pretty out of it, but not enough to let you know her mouth is sore if you touch it :low growl:
Fortunately she didn't loose any teeth but the vet said probably within the next few years she'll loose 1-2. The one they were concerned about has 3 roots-2 of them being good so it makes for a strong tooth, so she left it.
She said for her age she has wonderful looking teeth and they cleaned up nice:)

Uppie-Date on Cinder:

After 3 months of twice daily 0.4 mg "Soloxine" Thyroid replacement ...
I have a NEW Puppy-Dawg!! :cool: :D

Cinder jumps & romps like a FIVE-year old and her fur coat has *fluffed* up
and looks & feels like Puppy Fur! The Tail is still a little "worn" in one spot;
but the majority of the tail is *fluffy* again. And a two-year old Hot Spot
that she'd licked into an ugly bald spot on her forearm has now re-furred
itself and is completely covered in soft fur.

For Cinder - the Thyroid was the missing link!!

Roxey is doing good, even better since the weather has gotten warmer.
Besides the glucosamine she's on, we've added another suppliment suggested by the vet, Duralactin-http://www.duralactin.com/product.htm
Hopefully this will help her even more. I've read some great reviews on it.
If she starts having trouble again we're going to look into cold laser therapy-http://www.vomtech.com/vetcoldlaser.html
