Is it an Akida?
An Akita is a large dog that originally from Japan. They hunted large game such as bear and elk. They are independent dogs and can normally not be trusted off leash. They can be a little stand offish around new people and have a high prey drive so they should not be around small animals. The Akita also has a very thick coat. They love cold weather and snow. I would say with certainty that it is a Russian Ovcharka. Who's pup is it? They're a very, VERY serious breed. Cute will soon be replaced by intense.

Looks like a Great Pyr and Akita mix to me. Absoltuely a beauty.
Have the ears been cropped realy close to the skull? If yes it could be a caucasian ovcharka.
