it's been just a short and so long past time, these last 7 years. as i'm going to work today, i'll remember those who died because they just went to work that awful crystal blue day. may the innocent rest in peace, in new york, at the pentagon and in shanksville pennsylvania. may the guilty never know rest or peace, and may they feel justice, soon amen

How I remember that day, as you said, so long and so short ago. :(
On 9/11/2001, I was sitting in my living room getting ready to go back to work after being off for three weeks for paternity leave, holding my daughter.
The phone rang, got up to answer it. It was my sister. "Have you called Fort Devens yet?"
No, Why?
Turn on CNN, we're at war.
I was at work and we had no TV so we listened to the radio all day, it wasn't till I got home from work that day about 5:00 that I saw the videos and pictures.
It was also 33 days away from my wedding. I didn't know if war was going to break out in the US and I would have to call off my wedding.
Prayers and thoughts for all of those we lost 7 years ago today and to their families and friends also.
We all need to pray for peace.
It's kind of gloomy and cloudy in the Tri-State area today, unlike that terrible day. This is a day to put politics aside and all be Americans, regardless of political affiliation, opinions, etc. Bin Laden and Co. don't care if we're Democrats, Republicans, Libertarian, Green, Socialist, Communist; just that we're Americans and they hate us.
Prayers and best wishes to the families and the survivors and the police and firefighters, and that those who were made sick by the collapse of the Towers can get help.
It's a beautiful day here in Cleveland, OH - as it has been.. for the last 7 years. I think it's some kind of a "odd" thing for me to notice..
I was in high school, Junior year in my Gov't class, when I found out. We were supposed to have a exam that day but it was cancelled.
This date is always bringing back all the memories, all the pictures and emotions of that dreadful day... These pictures won't be erased from our minds as long as we live. None of us will ever forget what we did that moment we got the news, and we'll never forget where we were that moment, and what we thought and felt. And we won't forget that horror brought to us by the tv screen, over and over again. Even to this day, the pictures of it are still bringing tears to my eyes.
May everyone who lost his life - that day and in the aftermath of that day - rest in peace!
May the families who lost their loved ones live in peace.
May we all live in peace - everywhere!

What I remember most from that day, besides standing in my boss' office watching the tv, calling my brother, the screams and tears from the office below ours, and the images we saw over and over on TV ... is the silence.
With all air traffic stopped from Logan airport, the skies were silent for several days, eerily so. That made the sound of the patrolling fighter jets stand out even more.
Bright, beautiful, clear blue sky, but devoid of sound ...

Prayers for healing, prayers for the innocent, prayers for the truth and justice to be done.
The Friday before I went to the county fair with a dear friend. We had a wonderful time, one of the best days of my life- I remember thinking that life was good then.
I was in bed and popped on the snoozer that gave me the radio. The morning show that I listen to and thought, "whoa!"
I jumped out of bed and went next door to my parents house. I watched the last tower go down and thought, "what do I do?" I told them I was going to work, I didn't know what was going to happen and thought about our disaster plan.
MY mom asked me if I had to go! I told her that the terrorists weren't after an old Mexican couple in the valley.:rolleyes:
I watched the skies as I drove into work-As you drive the freeway into Lost Angeles from the north you can see the Jumbos flying into LAX. I think I said a prayer that I wouldn't see anything like that here.

I live near three airports and the following days were really errie with no plane engines in the air. And yes, being a huge aviation fan, they sound of far off war planes buzzing the area was unreal, to say the least.:(
Was at work at the library. A coworker came through and gave us the news when the first plane hit. After the second plane, they sent us home.

I think the world changed for everyone that day, so sad, my heart goes out to anyone and everyone who was affected by this tragedy, i remember it so well, my Dad had a heart attack this day, so for me it was a frightening day as well, i can remember seeing it on the Tv and was lost for words.
Towers of Life

I was at school, my dad was on a plane. Everyone was leaving school early and I didn't know what was going on. I was 8 years old. I went home and saw the footage. Wow. It was a shock. It brought the entire world closer together.
My heart goes out to all the people who died on that fateful day. :love:

One of my passions is aircraft and living where I go I hear and see plenty. The one thing that changed in my life was the way I look up when something flies overhead. Before it was to maybe see a plane or jet that were always buzzing around.
Now, when wayward plane buzzes the area I look up, to see what is in the air, and in the back of head there is always the fear of another tragedy like 9/11.
Sad.
life STILL is good richard, very good and oh so precious and short and wonderful. when the NY Times reported out that the search teams reached the body of the port authority dog, SIRIUS, who was on duty that day i wept like a child, and i saw some of the photos of his body being carried out, covered by a flag, exactly as they carried out all the other rescue personnel, i think his handler, (who was not with sirius at the time, he was caught in the rubble in another part of the building and i believe the handler was injured) at his side, leaving the trade center, one more time together, i wept. heros are rare, very rare, and life is still good.
A lot of the songs on Bruce Springsteen's The Rising are about trying to heal from 9/11. They played some yesterday on the radio, along with some songs from the Concert for New York in Oct. 2001.
It's amazing that after all these years, it's still so vivid in my mind. I was at work. Someone came into my office and told me to come with them to their office, there was an airplane that flew into one of the World Trade Center towers and they had a TV to watch the footage. They knew I'd want to see it because I had returned from vacation in NYC not a month earlier. I toured the WTC. Marble everywhere, gorgeous, fancy and clean, big beyond belief.
I watched in my co-workers office, the horror. Watched until second building was hit, then the office was closed for the day. I will never forget it. I will never forget how scared I was. I thought this was it. I thought this might be the beginning of the end of the world. The sky was erie. I did, however, see Airforce One flying, as the president was going somewhere. That was interesting to see Airforce One and to know that it was Airforce One, as no other commercial aircraft was allowed in the skies. It was the Airforce One surrounded by several military aircraft. Any other time I'd be so excited to see that, it was interesting but I was too frightened and ridden with grief to appreciate it.
I will never forget one of my co-workers screams. Her daughter worked in the WTC. Her mom was watching from a TV screen, the building that her daughter was likely in burning up. This woman, whos name slips my mind, was one of my favorite people there at work. Very lovely woman. She screamed and the feeling of complete helplesness was sickening.
She ran out, frantically trying to call her daughter. I found out the next day that her daughter was only on the 6th floor and was one of the first to make it out safely, thank God. I can't imagine being several states away from your child and watching from a TV screen such horror. Many did the same worrying about their loved ones but the outcome was not happy for them.

I stayed up so very late last night watching a special on the History Channel. It was footage from all the folks in NYC who were there to witness and record it. I sobbed myself to sleep.
I remember it very well. Had called in a sick day at work earlier that
morning and I was just lazing around on the couch watching TV. When
the news people broke into the programming with word of the first plane
crash, then the 2nd & the third.:( It feel so surreal. I couldn't take it all
in at first. I called a co-worker to talk to someone & see if they knew
about it too.
Almost everyone else in my neighborhood had gone to work & so the
area was pretty quiet. The very next day, almost every single house
had put out a flag or pasted the flag in a front window. I was amazed
but pleasantly surprised by the shared patriotism.:)
Ps. I hope someday the terrible people responsible for this attack are brought to justice.
