MAJOR rant inside about people who return my fosters!

I am so angry I don't even know where to start :mad:

One by One is getting 2 of its cats back (this isn't the first time, and it won't be the last) but GGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.........

Last year, My foster Cameo came here with her 2 baby girls, Locket and Velvet. 2 adorable mostly black tuxies. (see their baby pictures here http://www.petoftheday.com/talk/show...+locket+velvet )

So, in November the family gets a DOG!! And as I understand it, one of the girls picks on the poor (HUGE LAB) doggie! So who gets the boot????? The dog????? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO The cats, who are now not the cute babies any more.

And not only do the decide to GET RID OF the cat who hates the dog, NO, both have to leave!!!

Supposedly, the one is peeing outside the box, but will they take her to the vet???????????? NO!

And isn't it also convinient that they are due NOW for their booster shots? :rolleyes:

How many of you have noticed that the DOG always get to stay, but the cats can pack up and leave??? (I have personally heard it one million and five times)

And even if it is not a species related choice, the old ones always get the boot when they can't adjust to the new ones......never the other way around.

I made my best effort to give suggestions to make this work for them, and she gave it all of 2 seconds to shoot down all the ideas......:(

I am sorry Jen. It does seem Dogs are more precious and important to owners than Cats.. Cats are still disposable to many.. It is sad.

I must say atleast they gave it back to the shelter, instead of letting it outside, rehoming it to an abusive family. That happens all too often.

That stinks Jen! I'm sorry for those two kitties. At least we know One by One is a great group and I know you guys will find them a good home.

Well, if they're that jerky, I wouldn't want the 2nd cat staying there anyway.

I'm sorry they're coming back, but at least they will be safe with you. Katie is right, she could have been a total idiot and just dumped them, thrown them out or given them to another idiot. At least they are coming back.

When I adopted out an FIV boy, instead of giving me the kitty back, she took it straight to Animal Control the day after and he was PTS before I even knew what happened. She did not even have to courage or courtesy to call me, she just ignored my calls completely:mad: I had to find out VIA internet, and it was to late to even get him body back... AND SHE KNEW I wanted him back NO MATTER WHAT. SO please be thankful that they atleast were "decent" enough not to do that...

I bet they will be adopted out to a better family next time. One that will love them and NOT want them gone after a new addition arrives.

Jen, I definitely hear ya! I can`t stand families who adopt/buy animals, and then 'throw them away' when they get older and "less cute" OR get another animal that the others can`t adjust to. And you`re right, it always seems like people are more willing to get rid of the cats than dogs. If we got a dog here, and my four didn`t adjust well, I would put my effort into rehoming the dog. It`s common sense, my guys have been here and this is their home. Not to mention how tough it must be for the dog, to have to adjust in a home where s/he is clearly not welcomed by their fellow furry housemates! That`s terrible that those people got rid of the kitties, but I`m glad to hear that they`ve been returned and will find a new, better home! Obviously those people didn`t care for the kitties at all, to not even take one of them to the vet or try any of your suggestions. Sad, really.

I can tell you this for sure (and I know you weren't referring to anyone here), I feel seniority takes priority. If things didn't work out between Paizly and Taz you think I'd get rid of Taz? Heck NO! Or if Zoee didn't get along with her I'd rehome Zoee? NOPE. I even had a back up plan with Cathy in case it didn't work out. But luckily all is well. :)
As Katie and Jennie said - this is for the best. Those people should go on some kind of do not adopt list though.

How frustrating!! :mad: If Charlie and Jasper weren't getting used to each other (They are!!!!) I'd be looking for ways to help them along, not giving little Charlie the boot. :(

I sympathize, Jen. The older ones get the boot, and then it is more difficult to place them!

THE SAD THING IS THAT PEOPLE WANT AN ANIMAL TO BE ETERNALLY GRATEFUL TO THEM, AND DOGS HAVE THIS INSTINCT AS THEY ARE PACK ANIMALS AND CATS ARE NOT.
THATS A SHAME THAT THOSE POOR CATS WENT TO THE WRONG PLACE, BUT AT LEAST THEY CALLED YOU, INSTEAD OF DUMPING THEM SOMEPLACE AND SAYING THAT THEY RAN AWAY.
THE ANIMAL WELFARE GETS THAT ONE ALL THE TIME.:mad::mad::mad:

It sucks that they returned the cats after so long. But at least they returned them. Alot of other adopted cats never get the option. They either wind up at a high kill shelter, or driven way out into the country to fend for themselves. At least they are back with you and safe.

Those people are idiots and don't deserve to own an animal.

:( I am so sorry for you & the babies.. Their will be another home I am sure for these Cutie Pies.. Now this is why my 2 Bigg dogs are stay outside Only.. My cats are indoors Only && so this works out purrfect for everyone.. No conflicts.. ;)

Jen, sometimes it is just good to vent and get it all out!!! People are just stupid!!! Too bad there is not a way to find out during the adoption process, exactly when in the future they will get weird, and then not allow them to adopt!!!! You and the rescue work so hard to find good homes and aren't most happy with their cats? I think so, it is just the wacks that are never happy....

Some people are lazy owners. Sorry you had to deal with them.

I had 4 cats back in 2002 when I got my Lab. Was it love at first sight? Absolutely not. I trained and taught him on how to behave with my cats. Now they sleep together.

You cant blame cats for not wanting a huge dogs mug in their face. Most cats behave very well around a dog whos been trained to live with cats. It just takes effort, and some people wont input any.

Its sad because if their that lazy, the dog will be next to go when they dont put effort into him :(

It's so frustrating, Jen, and you are sooo right with everything you said! Don't know why so many people are like that! Before I adopted Lily, I agreed with her first humans that I would bring her back in case things don't work with Luna. No way I would have given up the older cat who lived with me for 3 years at that point. But it's true, you often hear stories where it's the other way around. :(

And you also seem to be right that dogs count more to some people than a cat! :( Maybe they think cats are easier to adopt.

Well that bites the big benooch. My group has a return policy too, but if a cat is returned for anything other than a VERY good reason, they are put on a do-not-adopt list which is shared with other groups. Once in awhile there's a cat who doesn't fit in for whatever reason; this usually happens quickly and an exchange takes place. This has happened to me a few times. But I had a situation similar to yours when the family adopted one of my cats, then got a pug, and the pug was picking on the cat, so they returned the cat.

If only the world was free from all heartless, stupid people!

Callie and the cats still don't see things in the same way. They hiss, growl, and swat - she barks, leaps, and dives. Its a circus around here and everyone is stressed from the whole production. Does that mean I'm going to toss the cats out on the street just because they aren't adjusting to an energetic puppy? Ummmm.... not on your life! Its only been 2.5 months! These things take time! I don't think I'll ever see the warm and cozy images of the cats cuddling with Callie but I'm praying they at least don't hiss and run at the mere thought that she's even within a 15 foot radius.

Ha, in the time it took me to write this, Callie was hissed at and swatted by Harry. He's currently sitting and glaring at her while she's sitting like a doggy statue watching him. :rolleyes:

So Jen, ya want to come over and visit? You can witness this spectacle yourself! :p ;) and if I had enough of the hissing, growling, swatting, and hiding, you can take Pouncer back (you'd have to pry him from my dead body though!!!!)

If you did dog rescue, you could rant about the people who return the new dog because the cat doesn't like it. Trust me, it goes both ways! And it's aggravating and heartbreaking no matter the species! I hope the returnees will find the purrfect home very soon.

While I do realize that "it works both ways", in your statement at least the older resident cat is allowed to stay, not the new addition. Seniority should account for something.

well, anyway, no news yet as to WHEN, and no new photos sent so they can be placed on our website.

My two dogs would rip my pusscat to shreds given the chance which is why she is safely upstairs in her own room with a stairgate and the door closed at all times! Pet ownership needs constant work that some people just don't get

Makes you wonder what they'd do if their kids didn't get on :rolleyes:

Well, that was a typo. Seniority often counts for nothing with those who dump pets. I've had dogs come back years and years later. Not much demand for ten year old big black dogs! I currently have a dog who dumped at 14 in need some of basic medical attention. A golden retriever puppy showed up at her old home about the day she was taken back to the shelter.

Im a big dog lover as well and thats really messed up, cat or dog. I dont know how people treat animals like their furniture, something better comes along and you just trade it in.

I hope people realize that the word RANT (in my title) predisposes that irrational statements might be enclosed. :rolleyes: I mean, of course, it isn't a dog problem any more than it is a cat problem. But it just boils my blood whenever the older pet gets the boot if a problem arrises.

Any way.......I am working on arranging to get the cats so they can see a vet ASAP. We suspect one of them might be having unrinary problems (that the owners are ASSUMING is a behavioral problem)

I completely understand where you're coming from, Jen. When I brought Groucho home for the first time, I knew I was taking on full responsibility for a living being. Right from the start this tiny furry little bundle of joy wasn't our pet kitten, he was a member of the family and that's how it remains to this very day. A few years ago things for us were extremely unsettled and uncertain. Soncat and I agreed that, no matter what, Groucho was with us to stay.
We all know that not everyone wanting a pet deserves to have one. Pets ask so little of us yet give so very much in return. As frustrating and heartbreaking as this must be for you, the good news is that these little guys will have a second chance at a life filled with love in a good and caring home. Far too many don't!

I totally understand...Stoopid pet owners aren't species specific, but cats are where your heart and your energy are devoted(and bless you for that)! I bet on a horse board somewhere there is a similar rant from a horse rescuer!

Hope the vet can find a solution to the peeing and the kitties can find the home they deserve!

Jen, I'm so sorry to hear this:( but as others have already said at least they were returned to your rescue group. I'm sure that they'll both be able to eventually find the loving and caring forever homes that they deserve.

As some of you may remember, I had to rehome Cirrus after I had him for about 2 years. He and Storm didn't get along and it was becoming worse as time went on. Storm was also becoming sick from all of the stress. Cirrus also started lashing out at Sky. Even though Sky was the newest cat, rehoming him wouldn't have made much of a difference and I'd never rehome Storm. I was,however, able to return Cirrus back to his rescue group and now he has an even better forever loving home. I still think that I made the right choice for my household.
