Lately there have been a couple of unintentional adoptions here at PT. I am thinking right now of Freedom's Marlin and Anna's Simba. I have to wonder if Kimlovescats will be able to let Bear go. :p :p I know there have been several foster failures too but for the life of me I can't think of them right now.
Who can you think of who was *only passing through* a PTer's house and wound up being one of the family?

Marlin begs to differ! He says there was absolutely NOTHING unintentional about the way he worked his way into our hearts during the 5 months he was a foster here! :D

How about former feral kitty Alicat??? I had every intention of working with her so she could be placed in a furrrever home. Well, guess whose furrrrever home she got???? MINE :D :D
My kitty Minion was an unexpected adoption. Kersey, also, was an unexpected adoption.
Jennie (Jenn_Librarian) fell in love with Woody threw his pictures and hearing his story, so not sure if that can be added to the "unexpected" catagory, as she wasn't expecting to be getting a puppy, and certainlly not a puppy from TX.
My Tinny was a 'foster' for about a week ;)... that was 2 years ago now.
Archie stayed overnight to see how he got on - and stayed for good :D

There are certainly plenty of unintentional adpoptions here. Hmm, how many has Glacier unintentinally adopted...lol.
I always hope that someday an unintentional adoption happens for me ;).
See, I knew I was forgetting a ton of them! :D I should have started one for the kitties too. I remember years ago when Bad Butter Boy came into Logan's yard and never left. :p

you can add Rusty to that list! we were not even planning on fostering, he just showed up and deided he wasnt leaving lol. we found his family but they couldnt keep him anyway and offered him to us..we said we would hold him till we found him a home, a week later we decided he was staying lol
For me it was the cats. Zam and Logan were foster failures. :)
There are a few dogs here that I went and intentionally adopted. Muskwa was from a breeder so we did that on purpose. Earle was intentional too. Hoodoo(RIP) was our first rescue dog, but we definately planned to keep him from the start. Kayleigh was deliberate, not well thought out, but definately intentional.Quote:

Fate made sure Hobo stayed with me. He was supposed to be a guest for a week and wasn't even up for adoption when he first arrived.
Heyoka was Stuart's idea because in his words "we deserve an easy one." We took Raven out of the shelter the same day to balance things out. She was the dog who needed out most and had the poorest adoption prospects.
Deuce, Mac and Ozzy were called fosters at one point, but there was never any real intention of letting them go. Deuce would be extraordinarly difficult to rehome as he's really a wild child. Mac and Ozzy had to stay together and Mac has a bite history, which limits his options.
I stole Bandit so I guess you could say he was intentional. I didn't need another dog, but he needed out and his owners were idiots.
Foster failures----Franklin, Pacer, Founder, Delta, Antare, Chum, Goldie, Founder, Chase, Anvik and Preacher(RIP).
I didn't want Tehya. Said no repeatedly over the course of about ten days. I am grateful every day that I ignored my better judgement with her!
All kitties for me too. Vega was a failed foster. I wanted to keep her but had to wait until she was tested to be sure so she was offically a foster. Bella was abandoned and I didn't intend to keep her but when I got her inside after she had the babies and she was tested we decided on adding her and one of her babies I wanted to keep which was Frost. I was actually not intending to get any other cats at all after we got Phoenix as a buddy for Vixen but the cosmic plan changed. :p

My cat, Honeybun, was a foster. He just wiggled his way into my life and my heart with his pathetic stares and his sad little life.
I have no idea what will happen with my foster Furbee... she's been here for 2 1/2 years and she's not able to go to adoption events. I love her to death, even though she drives me nuts, so I guess she'll be here to stay as well.
Boris was supposed to go to my brother, but then they backed out, so she stayed here with me. That was 4 1/2 years ago. My one ex-boyfriend adores her and he wants to take her with him when he finally gets a place of his own. She loves him too, and hates everyone else, so maybe she'll get a place to call her own without a bunch of other cats driving her nuts.
Fluff has a home here for as long as he needs it. I absolutely adore him! He's got such personality, and is so fun! He's one of the most social cats I've ever met, next to my own Finae.
Calloway.. oh gosh, I don't want to give him up! He's my special boy, and I just adore him. I kind of hope that he doesn't get any interest on Petfinder, lol.
Zach needs a castle to call his own, lol, so as much as I would love to adopt him, there's no way I can do that to the rest of my guys. He's sweet and loving and a chatterbox, but such a bully!!!! He terrorizes my girls, and that's just not a good thing.
When I had Bear and Mac (both RB angels now), I vowed I would keep them forever if needed. I just adored them both, and they had been in the shelter so long, just because they were FIV+. It just wasn't fair. Bear just captured my heart, and Calloway reminds me so much of him.
All of my fosters have a special place in my heart... even Ally cat. She's a sad little soul. The clomicalm seems to be helping (thanks Emeraldgreen!), so hopefully that's giving her some peace of mind.
I didn't want Tobey or any dog really :rolleyes: but I wouldn't be without the little guy now. Didn't want one dog but ended up with two...........sound familiar?Quote:

The majority of our dogs were never supposed to stay. Vanilla, Georgie, Pepper and Karma were "unplanned" additions.
I didn't want Vanilla, I thought she was too big and too freakishly shy. I didn't want Georgie, I don't keep male dogs and he was soooo stupid. I didn't want Pepper, she was the most anti-social dog ever, hiding under the bed for a solid month literally and peeing on herself if you turned the light on in the room. I kind of wanted Karma, except for the fact that we already had seven dogs and she is a bit dog aggresive.
Wellll, years later ... Vanilla is my sweetie, an almost perfect dog. Georgie is still soooo stupid, but you gotta love him anyway. Pepper has come out of her shell to the point of actually approaching strangers! :eek:
And a month later, Karma is a big floppy goober. Still a bit dog aggresive, but has never drawn blood. And she learns at the speed of light, so she'll get it.
Even though they were not fosters, i had not intention of adopting Ellie-Mae and Nikkita, i was just trying to make their owner more responsible, stop them breeding in the neighbourhood,but oh i am so glad i have these precious furbabies, they are the loves of my life., all four of them that is. :)

Spook and Hoodini were both foster failures lol. Spook just got along so well with Remus that I couldn't say no to keeping her even though she clawed me when I tried to take her home :rolleyes:
Hoodini I was going to take to the shelter...and it kept getting delayed lol. His cute charm worked me over though :D

Maggie my boston terrier was unintentional. Lucy was unintentional because someone brought her to a birthday party I was at and I fell in love not even thinking about getting another dog.
When I was at a cat show,the Humane Society was there so I looked at each cat and I even commented that I was glad that there weren't any kittens because I would be very tempted. I already had 3 cats at home so I wasn't even looking for any more.
When I saw,Herman,now Sky, I thought that he looked very interesting and I hoped that he would find a home that day. He had a lion cut because his fur had been matted and very beautiful light blue eyes. I heard them call a name saying that so and so had just been adopted. I went to see if it was Herman but it was another cat.
They asked me if I wanted to hold Herman and I said sure. Well that was all it took besides his wonderful personality and his gorgeous blue eyes. I didn't like the name Herman so I told them that his new name would be Sky. He had become the cat shows favorite adoption cat so everyone was thrilled to learn that he had a new home.:) He's been such a wonderful cat and I'm so glad that I decided to add him to my family that day.:) I can't believe that I now have 6 cats.;)
I guess I should also include Pearl and Ziggy Stardust to this thread too. I adopted them from K & L and like Jenn I fell in love with their pictures. Pearl was also my grandmothers name so I knew that I had to have her and Ziggy reminded me so much of Sky. I also didn't have any female cats so I needed to add a few to the mix.;)
Hahaha Falise was one I was gonna keep till I got her trained some,and found her a home.. YEA Right. we had her a week.. and she was PERFECT .. 5 mo old Puppy, No accadents, And didn't get into ANYTHING.. so, we said we would keep her.. named her.. and then a week later.. spent 3 nights at the E Vet.. :-/ My Aunt was visiting, and she got a hold of her BP meds,and Diabetic meds.. :-/ *She is a pill Popper* Like a yr later, got ahold of my mom's friends Pain Pills! *Sigh* She is lucky she made it to 3! lol

Well, I was *looking to adopt* but one thing I knew was I didn't want a male. Just to be nice I said *okay, I'll take a look* to my husband's co-worker who was looking for a home for a shelter dog they were going to *take back*.
The then-named Buddy hopped out of their van and peed like a girl dog (sign#1). He was exactly Hannah's size and coloring (sign#2). I agreed to let him stay the weekend, no strings attached. An hour later I was whispering sweet nothings in his ear and heading to the pet store to buy supplies for our new forever dog.
Ebony was my first foster. That lasted all of 29 minutes! I was on the phone, telling them to take her OFF the adoption list. It was and is the SHORTEST ever fostering in their records.
Chaplin was NOT staying. NO WAY. He actually left for about 3 weeks. Then the woman who was socializing him for adoption had her summer vacation and needed a kitten sitter for 10 days. He had been here for 4 days before moving to her home, was I interested? Oh sure. Ya'll know what happened! The 3rd night he slept on Dad's bed. Next morning, Dad told me and added, "So we're keeping him, right?"
I failed cat fostering twice; and dog fostering once. (I technically consider it twice, as I truly believe we have Ozzy for life).
Have I ever fostered successfuly? Er, NO! And since I have a full house, so NO MORE FOSTERING for a few years. :rolleyes:
Though I knew of Tucker's past I was delighted to see you post it today. This is another "meant to be" adoption and it just makes me smile all over again. I wonder if Tucker realizes how important that first pee was in securing the best home in all of Illinois. :o :p It seems that he and Hannah with their, at times, opposite personalities have struck just the perfect balance needed to make your home complete. :)Quote:
