Miss Hoppy's Health - New picture

Miss Hoppy has been sniffly this summer, and so we finally took her to the vet. It would seem to go away for a few days, then come back, so it was time for a hated vet visit. We got Regulan, and eye drops, and some blood pressure medicine.

Sadly, what the vet discovered is that my bunny, my beloved Hoppy, has a tumor in her chest, called a Thymoma. We have had an x-ray done, and the vet couldn't see any border between her heart and the tumor. It is certainly putting pressure on her heart, as she now has a heart murmur, which she never had before.

We will be going for an ultrasound next Tuesday to see how bad it is, and then see what might be done about it, if anything. The vet did keep saying "Remember, she IS ten years old," so she is an old bunny ...

Still, I don't want my bunny to be sick!

Oh Karen I am so sorry, I hope they can help miss hoppy enjoy her senior years to their fullest.

Oh no, poor Hoppy!:( I can't believe Miss Hoppy is sick. That is not good, I really wish I could help in some way, but I know that all I can do is Pray for Miss Hoppy to get better and live the rest of her life out in love and happiness.

Aw Karen, I'm so sorry to hear this. I know exactly how this feels with Tia going through her mammary tumour at this time, too. Watching the tumour sprout up from under her foreleg brings such sadness to my heart, but I am kept going in the knowlegde that she is brave, far braver than any human would be, and will get on with the remainder of her life as best she can. I know Miss Hoppy will do exactly the same, animals are so amazingly resiliant when it comes to sickness.

At ten years, Miss Hoppy has done very, very well in life. Whatever the outcome, Miss Hoppy has lived a long, fruitful life in the arms of loving humans and she couldn't have asked for more. I know that doesn't make things any easier, but I know if Miss Hoppy could talk to you, she'd tell you that herself.

OMG I am soooo sorry Karen! Lots & Lots of prayers being sent for Ms. Hoppy! We would'nt want to lose that big brown ball of fluffy fur!!!

I'm sorry, Karen. It's tough to see our pets not in the best health and figuring out the best way to get them healthy again.

Luckily, we do live in the best area in the world for expert pet healthcare. We'll see what the ultrasound shows.

Miss Hoppy is slightly less active than before, but otherwise seems unbothered by this, except that her eyes are weepy, so I wipe the goo off her fur. She hated the eyedrops, and the vet let us stop those - as much would get on her fur as in her eyes anyway.

Oh No!! I sure hope that they can do something for Miss Hoppy, so that you guys can enjoy much more time together!! Please keep us posted!

I hope her sniffles go away soon and she will get feeling better. I was once told by a very wise bunny (Julian) that Parsley is sure to cure all sicknesses in bunnies. He told me that 3 to 4 bunches a day keeps the vet away.

Maybe you should try that with Miss Hoppy ;)

Oh Karen, how many times you have consoled all of us when our pets were ill.

I just hate to even deal with the fact that it is your turn for us to pray for you, Paul and Miss Hoppy.

But, pray I will, that Miss Hoppy can be made comfortable and you will have her with you for a long time yet to come.

I know Miss Hoppy is YOUR bunny - but I am sure all would agree that we also feel she is OURS too.

Miss Hoppy gets her parsley every day! She's smaller than Julian, she couldn't eat 4 whole bunches in a day, but she always has some available! It is de rigeur as far as she's concerned. She didn't mind the blood pressure meds (Lasix) because each little piece got hidden in a raisin.

Sorry about your bunny Karen. I know absolutely nothing about bunnies, didn't even know they lived so long. And have never seen any brought in to the vet. Maybe we don't have too many out here, although I have spotted some in a few pet stores. Positive vibes to you.

Poor Miss Hoppy... hope the meds help and that they can do something for the tumor.

Karen I have no experience with bunnies but do know from a colleague and friend who has always had them that a bunny's health and well-being is a delicate thing. Sending lots of prayers for Miss Hoppy that she feels as well as she can and is able to stay with you and Paul for sometime yet.

Please don't ever tell Julian, he may run away to live with you and Miss Hoppy :eek: What a spolied well taken care of girl! She truly is blessed to have you as her parents.

This is my 1st time checking in for a few days, so I was stunned to read about our beloved Miss Hoppy. Poor widdle bunny girl will definitely be in my prayers.

I'm very sorry to hear this news. I do hope that there is something that they can do for Miss Hoppy to take the pressure off her heart.

It is nice to hear that she is unbothered by this and that she doesn't have to have the drops any more...I bet that made her very happy:)
