Hey everybody! I couldn't wait, it's time for the clambake! Let's see I've got the steamers, lobster, scallops, corn-on-the-cob, plenty of butter and other fixings. Somebody know a good DOTD for a clambake (please, no clamjooz). :D

Bloody Marys are good!! It's not really Klam Juz but if a bloody is made with Clamato Juice it's really quite good and not "fishy" at all!!! And freshly made lemonade for those that prefer it. I like to make it with sugar water (similar to that to make Sweet Southern Tea). Hmmmm, how many PetTalkers does it take to make lemonade ;) Plus plenty of beer for the crab pot of course ~
DOTD should be BEER! A clam bake - I used to go to those with my grandparents and aunts & uncles in upper state New York. Wow! Were they ever fun. They were a benefit for the local volunteer firemen.
What a hoot they were! One of the years I attended my favorite Uncle had crash landed his small plane. He had made a landing strip in the fields behind their farm. I watched him do this and was beside myself..........until we watched him walk away from the plane. My Aunt put her foot down then, and claimed she was going to plow up the landing strip all by herself. Use the local airport she shouted at him! We were all relieved he was alright.
He drank beer all day at the Clam Bake and I have never, ever seen my Uncle get so drunk. He really didn't drink! But, he knew he was lucky to be alive.
So - barkeep - whatcha got to offer in a really good beer to go with these clams and corn - and oh.............gosh, I am drooling here.
I've never had clam

Well, I guess we should get things started. Do we have enough big pots, I need one for the lobster, one for the clams and one for the corn. Mario, you wanna help me husk the corn? Make sure you pull off all the corn silk. Oh, look how cute Mario looks like he has a blonde wig with all that corn silk on his head.
Oh you know what else we need, Jimmy Buffett and Margaritas
Nibblin' on sponge cake,
watchin' the sun bake;
All of those tourists covered with oil.
Strummin' my six string on my front porch swing.
Smell those shrimp--
They're beginnin' to boil.
Wasted away again in Margaritaville,
Searchin' for my lost shaker of salt.
Some people claim that there's a woman to blame,
But I know it's nobody's fault.
Don't know the reason,
Stayed here all season
With nothing to show but this brand new tatoo.
But it's a real beauty,
A Mexican cutie, how it got here
I haven't a clue.
Wasted away again in Margaritaville,
Searchin' for my lost shaker of salt.
Some people claim that there's a woman to blame,
Now I think,-- hell it could be my fault.
I blew out my flip flop,
Stepped on a pop top;
Cut my heel, had to cruise on back home.
But there's booze in the blender,
And soon it will render
That frozen concoction that helps me hang on.
Wasted away again in Margaritaville
Searchin' for my lost shaker of salt.
Some people claim that there's a woman to blame,
But I know, it's my own damn fault.
Yes, and some people claim that there's a woman to blame, And I know it's my own damn fault.
I've never been to a clam bake. I have been up to Door County, Wisconsin for a fish boil, though and the traditional dessert is cherry pie. I hope that will work for a clam bake; I'm starting the crusts now. Be back soon.
I have a couple of large pots I can lend to the cause!
Cherry pie sounds great. Here's some New England style clam chowder and some clam fritters to get everyone started. Can someone make a pitcher of Margaritas and/or slushies?
Thanks Smokey, I just hope the stove is big enough for all these pots.Quote:

(by the way Sara, I can't wait to get home tonight to read every page of KlamJuz again - thanks) ;)
WOW!
I'll dig the pit.......When we would make goat or pig it goes into a pit in the ground - like a luau....I think we can pull it off!

His ear lobe fell in the deep
Someone reached in and grabbed it
It was a rock lobster

We were at the beach
Everybody had matching towels
Somebody went under a dock
And there they saw a rock
It wasn't a rock
It was a rock lobster

Commotion in the ocean
His air hose broke
Lots of trouble
Lots of bubble
He was in a jam
Said the giant clam!!!
Rock, Rock

Down, down...
Underneath the waves
Mermaids wavin'
Wavin' to mermen
Wavin' sea fans
Sea horses sailin'
Dolphins wailin'
Rock Lobster!!!

Red snappers snappin'
Clam shells clappin'
Muscles flexin'
Flippers flippin'
Rock, Rock

Put on your noseguard
Hit on the Lifeguard
Pass the tanning butter

There goes a mantaray
In walked a jelly fish
There goes a dogfish
Chased by a catfish
In flew a sea robin
Watch out for that piranha
There goes a narwhal

Oooo I've been waiting all week for this! Are we ready to cook yet? Huh? Huh?
pushy pushy pushy ;) If another pair of hands would help dig the pit *ahem* it just might go faster. Or at least bring us a drink... that sun is getting hot!!
I can do both these things! First I will dispense that lemonade of yours Laurie, then I will dig! Multi-talented, me! I've been doing a spot of gardening this afternoon, just getting in the digging mood.:D
I'll get the slushies going in the SeeMent mixer!
Plenty for everyone!
EWWWW Clams lol. I remember when my dad would have clam chowder the whole house would stink for days like clams. YUCK.
But I would definately partake in the lobsters :D
LOL ROCK LOBSTER.... that song cracks me up.
Ibaker, here are my two hands to help dig the pit! I've never had clams before, but I love crab meat in any form. I'll have a slushie while I work!

You've never had clams? My dear, your education is sorely lacking! I can only eat them at Thursdays now (allergic in real life), but steamed clams and some melted butter ... nothin' like it! Yum!
No, Orange Kitty (someone name this poor thing), they are not all gonna be for you!
And guys? I'll send Lady over - she's a champ at digging! And this time no one will yell at her!
Wait until he finds a worm in that corn!!! We'll get to see how fast he can run!!! :DQuote:

My not-so-secret-coleslaw recipe!
IT's not a recipe, it's more like a lab experiment.
There are no measurements....
Shred cabbage and carrots.
Add mayo and ranch dressing to taste!
Season salt and Walla!

The story of Walla!
My niece came over and after she would accomplish/finish something she would mutter the word, "Walla!", I listened to this for a while until I asked her what she meant....
She swung her head to one side, raised her palms to the sky and said something like.....
"You know, it means that you are finished! WALLA!"
I thought for a second and wondered what the French would think.....
Voila! :D
OH My God! I love that show. Did you see the 4 part series they had on after it called "After the Catch"? That was good too! I've never had crab legs. But I like crab rolls, need anymore help with the pit, the clams have been washed and the corn has been husked and I'm just waiting to put the lobsters in the pot.Quote:

OK folks, I'm famished over here. Give me a huge plate of anything and everything. It'll taste a whole lot better with butter.....
I've got Mr. Tile Man coming to my place on Saturday and he's going to rip up the floor tiles in my guest bathroom. He just now tells me that the toilet has to be removed. Dear God, my spare bedroom has now become the litterbox room, the computer room, the freezer room and now the toilet room. Poor Max has to wind his way through to muck and the mess..... I'll be yelling "WALLA" myself when he's finally done.
Richard, better throw me a couple of Lemon Drops in preparation.

If you run out of clams, call my brother in Rhode Island - he digs them for spare change. Now these are the hard shelled kind - Little Necks and the like. Not the soft shelled for steaming.
There is nothing better in this world than to walk on the beach, dig up a clam, open and eat it right there. That is HEAVEN!!
EDIT: May I suggest Long Island Ice Tea for a beverage . . . http://bestsmileys.com/drinking/10.gif
