No-Name and stray cat *pictures* *UPDATE post 12**

I found out the sex of the new siamese addition... as we've been calling the poor GUY a she... yes, she is in fact a he. :o So now he needs a name. I sat out in the shop with him today just trying to think of a name for him, but I just couldn't come up with one. I started calling him Pepper, after the cat in my avatar, but I didn't know if I wanted to call him Pepper too.. we'll see if it sticks or not. Also, I went out to feed him and I saw a cat kinda run away and I thought it was kind of weird since no-namer is so friendly. I realized I have another cat on my hands! The cat stays with no-name but if it gets TOO close to no-name he bats at it. But they don't hiss at each other or anything. The cat meows CONSTANTLY, especially if you talk back to it. It is still a little unsure of humans right now though. Unfortunatly, I think it was a kitten of someones who decided they didn't want it anymore, and dropped it off out by my house in the country. It comes when you call it, but won't let you touch it or come very close. I'm going to keep feeding it, and sitting out there by it, hopefully it will gain my trust. I had no-name come into the shop today and left the door open so this stray could come in, and it did, so I took a few pictures... :)

What a beautiful baby!!

I have one question though. His ears, what happened to them?? If that's the way they are, I do believe you have an American Curl/Siamese/Seal Lynx torbie mix.

I wonder if someone didn't dump them both together? They look like they are comfortable inside and are just frightened at their new surroundings. Both of them are lovely babies and have found their safe world that they knew turned upside down. Just give them time and I think you will have 2 really nice new additions to your home.

No, they didn't get dumped together. My dad brought no-name home from his aunts so that she would go to a nursing home, because she wouldn't leave no-name behind. You can see that thread
HERE I think the stray has been here though for a couple days, because the day I found out about no-name I heard some meowing in the shed, and I thought it was our cat Mittens, but now that I listen to the meowing I'm thinking it was the stray.

Help, I'm confused! No-name is the male kitty with the injured ears, right? And stray is the kitty that's not hissing but meowing - stray is male, too? I think no-name is so pretty despite the ear thing. Stray looks so content in the first couple of photos and then he's got a totally different look on his face in the meowing photos. Could you give them "pair" names - Rowan and Martin, Click and Clack (car guys on public radio), Abbott and Costello, Bo and Luke (remember the Dukes of Hazzard), Fred and Barney?

Honestly No-Name is a great name to me. Here in San Francisco there is a morning radio show and the DJ's are Sarah and No Name. So it just sounds normal to me to say No Name as a real name. LOL But that's not a good name for a kitty.
Since he is so large and doesn't have his ears, I'm thinking Bob (because he looks sorta like a Bobcat), but that's kinda boring too. And I had a dog growing up named Pepper, so that's a dog name to me.
Well, I'm stumped. Whatever you call him will be perfect!!
So, do you get to "keep" the other stray guy too? Or would that be pushing it with your dad? :D

catnapper- no-name is my new addition, with no ears. I'm not sure if the stray is a male or female. Hopefully a male. I'm not sure if I'll be able to keep this other stray. I'm sure my dad won't bring it the the HS or anything, it will stay on our farm, but my dad probably won't allow me to bring it to the vet or anything. :rolleyes: . . but I'll work on him. ;)

Oh my gosh, they both have such sweet faces! I love the boy with the frostbitten ears (I guess in Minnesota that would be a normal for a cat to get if it were abandoned outside in the winter, right?). How about a naming him after something that really suits his personality and how he behaves? Is he silly and goofy, or is he laid back?

The stray is adorable.. he/she looks a lot like my Frankie, a foster that I have upstairs. He loves to rub around my ankles, and is very chatty, but you can't hold him very much. He's much happier with other kitties as companions than humans.

I am furious right now, I am in disbelief about what an A$$#o!e my dad is. This morning I was leaving for work with him, and he had already been to a town about 45 miles away before I even woke up. He said, well your cat is in Grand Forks now!!!! :mad: :mad: :mad: He took my cat, and brought it some where else. I cannot believe him. Needless to say we got in a HUGE fight and I called him a few names I probably shouldn't have. If he really didn't want the cat he should have said so, I could have found it a better home instead of him just taking it away. I am so very very sorry pet talk, you have no idea how sorry and ashamed I am. I never thought someone in my family would do such a thing.

What is in Grand Forks?? Did he just drive the cat there and drop it off? The fact that he did this while you were asleep just shows that he was being a coward... no offense to your dad, but that's what it was. A very cowardly act on his behalf.

What about the stray? What is happening with that cat?

Can you get that poor No Name back? I'd just go and pick it up and tell dad to kiss my behind.

Did he take No Name, or the stray? Did he take the cat to someone, or just dump it? I don't blame you for being upset with your Dad. That's just cruel. Not only to the cat, but to yo as well. If it was No Name, he lied to your aunt. How confuse dthat poor kitty must be. Lost one human, goes to a new place, then gets dumped somewhere else. Cats have a way of finding their way back. Wouldn't that be funny?

He took No-name :( and I think he just dumped him. My dad didn't even tell his aunt that he was taking the cat away from her, he just took it. She is very old (85 years of age) and is living by herself. She desperatly needs to go to a nursing home, but wouldn't leave without her cat, so my dad took it home with him without telling her. Poor cat, he was such a sweetheart, I really hope he finds his way home!! :(

I'm so ashamed, I never thought I would have to post something like this, and before I did I was thinking about not even saying anything. I feel like my love for animals has failed, I was supposed to be this cats home. He learned to trust me, and followed me around like a dog, and then another family member just takes him away when he is finally getting comfortable. I'm so sorry.

Call and leave a message - and tell them you will call back in the morning. Also mention an email from Candace at a gmail address, from Canada. Leave that in the message.

That will give them a heads up.

Do you have a uncle, a good friend of your dad's, ANYONE that might help? Can you drive there on your own?

Sounds like Dad has some control issues... he needs to be in control. Aunt won't go into a nursing home because of her cat, he takes her cat and doesn't tell her. Now he decides to dump the pour soul in the middle of lord knows where?!

Your aunt must be worried sick about her "missing" cat. Have you spoken to her?? What if she gets really sick because her cat is missing?!

Can you get dad to tell you where in Grand Forks he dropped off the cat?? That poor thing must be so confused. Why would he do that??? I mean, unless he's got some deep seeded issues and doesn't care if the cat lives or dies. That's just inhumane.

Jenn - I hope he will at least tell the Humane Society where he dropped the cat.

I know he's this young woman's dad - but there is something very wrong here. He has hurt TWO female relatives of his, emotionally.

I hope the Humane people will have an educational chat with him.

That's what I mean Catty... sounds like dad has some issues for him to be doing this to two women who are his family. Hopefully they can find the kitty (who the aunt must have named at some point....) and he'll be ok. Heck, I'm off for the summer... I'll drive to where ever Grand Forks is and pick up the cat from the humane society. He looked like a sweetheart. Roadtrips were meant for summer anyway!!

Just talk calmly to your dad, that should work better than yelling and being accusatory... just try to get him to tell you where he dropped of the kitty. Hopefully it wasn't just in the middle of nowhere, but with someone.

Thank you for your email. Abandoned animals are not unusual when working at an animal shelter. Most states do not prosecute those who abandon animals unless it can be proven that they were abandoned with intent to do the animal harm. In the state of North Dakota, humane society personnel have not been given the authority to charge/cite people with cruelty/neglect or investigate instances of the same. That authority lies with law enforcement agencies only. We are a shelter whose first priority is to accept and care for all stray and abandoned animals. If the cat can be found and brought to us we will certainly do the best we can to find the pet a home. We do not, however, have any authority to prosecute this person. If charges were to be filed, that would have to be done by the aunt who owned the cat or by the daughter who has information about the abandonment in cooperation with their local law enforcement.

Thank you again for your email. Again, should the cat be found and brought to us we will do the best we can to find a home.

Candace, I'm sorry I emailed them before I read this so I never got to include your name or information.

I don't want to press charges on my dad or anything like that. My dad has issues with a lot of stuff, and he really is driving me crazy. No, I cannot drive to Grand Forks by myself, and I don't have any relatives that live there or would be willing to help. My dad will not talk to the Humane Society, but he told me where he dropped it off. He brought it to a trailer court in town. I'm not exactly sure where it is, all he said was "the trailer court west of the college" ? Hopefully the poor soul has been found or someone can find it.

Has he given you an explanation why he did such a thing??

What is happening with your aunt? She's got to be worried about her cat. I'm going back and forth here as to whether it would be a good idea to tell her what your dad did. Maybe she'd be able to "scold" him and make him feel bad enough he'd go back to get it.

Dad may have issues, but I'd let him know that no matter if he was my father or not, that I would not let him abuse/neglect another animal and I would have no qualms about turning him in for it. That's just saying you're ok with what he did... it's enabling him, and I'd be he doesn't feel badly about what he did either. If it were my father who had done something like that (although he wouldn't cause he's worse than me when it comes to rescuing pets), I'd turn him in in a heartbeat. I have no tolerance for animal abuse or neglect, and I don't care who it is that did it. Granted you are also younger than I am, and would have to live there with him and deal with the repercussions, so I can understand you being hesitant doing something like that, but someone has to put their foot down with dad.

Is there ANYWAY you can go and try to find the cat?? Do you have a friend that drives? Can you get it through dad's thick skull that he needs to go back and take you there so you can find the cat, or at least try to find it?? Heck, ride a horse or a bike, or something there if you have to, but at least get there. Until you've exhausted all available options, there is still a chance for you to help this cat.

TMB - please PM me the name of your town, and I will contact the HS there as well.

I have an uncle who lives in Grand Forks. He can't have a cat where he lives, but loves them.

Hmmm - I think he lived in a trailer court once upon a time!

I hardly ever talk to him...he has a few problems, but a good heart. I will call later and ask if he has a way to get there (no car), check around for No Name and get him to the HS.

However, if your local HS knows a person in Grand Forks WITH a car, that would be a lot easier.

I am at the office and can't call from here...I will try this afternoon (calling your local HS).

PLEASE call your aunt. I suspect she is in pretty good shape and doesn't need to go to a "home". If she is - she will be worried about her cat. Call her, please...let her make her own decision on this. Also...you can find out the cat's name.

Better that she lay charges than you - though you could go live with her, I suppose! :)

As I PM'd to you, I contacted the two likely trailer parks, and left messages for them to have anyone who found No Name to either take him to the Grand Forks HS, or to let them know if they are keeping him.

I suggested that you contact Circle of Friends by email again (the GF HS) and let them know the names of the two parks I contacted. That way htey have a heads up.

I was suggesting that maybe someone at the GF place had someone who might go check these parks...surely there is some animal officer there, even if they don't work AT the Humane Society.

I am surprised you and your sister are not in Arizona. Your dad may have "issues' - but is he getting any help for them?

There's lots of help available if he wants it - so never never make excuses for him (I'm not saying you do, just don't do it). I hope you have a counsellor - that can help you.

I don't know what more I can do for No Name...if you could get his real name from your aunt, then at least he might respond to it if someone in GF goes looking.

This is just unbelieveable! Sweet No-Name gets dumped for no apparent reason? My Dad was very hard to get along with so I understand what you must be dealing with.

Please don't feel that you have to apologize to us for something you didn't do and knew nothing about. We all know how much you love No-Name and you would never do anything to cause him any harm. What your father did was out of your control. Please do not take responsibility for what someone else did!

Being in New Jersey I don't know what I can do to help reunite you with No-Name. Please know that you and No-Name are very much in my prayers. I only want you to know that none of this is YOUR fault.

Okay. I emailed the Grand Forks Humane Society (Circle of Friends) this afternoon.

I copied and pasted the trailer park info, the two that are west of the college.

I asked if they might have a person who lives near there or who could go check in person.

I attached two pictures of No Name for them.

TMB - were you able to find out NN's real name? Can you ask your aunt if you haven't?

This is not to get No Name back to you, as your dad would not like it...the HS said they would find a good home for him if he was brought in...but if he knows his real name, then he would respond to it better.

I know how you feel, my Dad can sometimes get like that too.. but I don't believe he would do anything like this. He wouldn't waste the gas on it. :D

The cats real name is Friskies, but, when I tried to call him that he never responded, so I dont think it will work. He always came better if you just said, "here kitty!" so I dont know.

My dad is not getting help, but IMO he should. There is no way he ever would though, he won't even let me get help. I was having some problems a year ago, and I went to the doctor, and he said I needed to start going to a psyciatrist. My dad refused to let me go, even though I asked him to bring me. I'm having hard times now dealing with moving to Arizona, and just being a teenager, and I feel like I can't go anywhere to get help. Everytime I try to talk to my dad or mom about it, my dad buts in and it all ruptures into a huge fight.

Thank you so much Candace for everything you have done. You are a savior. You have done so much to try and rescue this poor guy, and you have a huge heart. I am very greatful and I'm sure No-name is too. I don't think there is much else anyone can do other than hope that he has been found and is in a good home with someone who loves him and will keep him forever.

I mean - what judge would have awarded custody to your dad? How did you and your sister wind up staying there? (PM me this if it's too personal.)

You CAN go for help. I don't know if you are of legal age; if you are not, I suggest you tell your doctor what happened. He or she is then bound to report that you are not getting good care with your dad. Your dad has to be reported. I'm sorry - but that is the way it seems. He is being a poor parent. Or Children's Aid (they help teens too)

I know you have your horses and everything there. Please remember - as much as you love them, you can get another horse one day.

You can't buy another you, or another sister.

Hi TMB, Are you thinking about moving to Arizona? As far as any legal implications, are you with your Dad by court order? If so or if not, your Mom might have to petition the court for legal custody. If this is a possibility, I strongly suggest that your Mom contact a lawyer to see where you both stand legally and what other legal options might be available. If she can't afford a lawyer, let me know because I can find a contact for her regardless of what state she lives in through my job. Family laws vary from state to state.
How sad that your folks refuse to allow counseling for you. Is there another adult you could talk to? A trusted adult, a teacher, your minister, parent of a friend? Prayers were offered for you and No-Name during church this morning.

Oh gosh... sounds like not a good situation for anyone right now at home! I'm so sorry!!

Can you go and live with mom?? I mean, she'd want to have what's best for your welfare, and if dad is refusing to do that, someone needs to know. Are you still in school?? Even if you're over 18 and in college, you should be able to talk to someone, but if you're in high school and he's your legal guardian, he is OBLIGATED to do what is best for your health and welfare (and your mental health is included in that).

If you need, I can talk to our counselors at school to see what could be done in your state, and what your rights as a minor, and his responsibilities as a guardian are. Just so you know what you are entitled to. You need to do what is best for you and your sister.

I really hope that there will be something you can do. I know you're a minor, but dad has to provide for you not just with food, clothes and a roof over your head. It goes way beyond that. If you need help, please let us know and we'll do what we can on our ends, even if it's just moral support and getting you info you need so you can let dad know he's not doing what he should be.

Thanks everyone. My parents are not divorced or seperated, our whole family is in the process of moving. My mom had to move down there sooner because her job started a couple of weeks ago. I still have horse shows and other things to do here in Minnesota this summer, so my dad, sister, and I decided to stay here until school starts again in the fall. I am very angry and having a hard time with both of my parents at the moment. I do NOT want to move to Arizona at all, I do not think any teenager should be forced to leave there school, friends and family when they are almost out of high school. I am not really getting along with either of my parents, but my mom and I are pretty close and I still talk to her every night, so I think our relationship is fine even though I am angry with her. My dad and I used to be very close, but in the last couple years he hasn't wanted to let go and let me grow up, and I've grown up faster than he probably wanted me too. I'm going through the "rebelious" stage, and always feel like I just want to get out and go to a party or sneak out of the house. I have always been the "perfect child." I've never been to a party before, never even taken a sip of a beer, smoked or any of that (which is probably good) but it's getting to me, and I'm in the stage where I just want to try it (not smoking or any of that, but just GOING to a party). My dad is very strict, he won't let me do hardly anything. The other day he let me going tubbing with a couple friends and I just about fell over. I really wish I could switch my gaurdianship over to my aunt and uncle or SOMEONE else, but I don't even know if you can do that if my parents are actually harming me or doing anything wrong really... ?

I recall you saying then that you might be able to do your last year of school there and stay at your aunt's?

I would think your family should be ok with you having some time to yourself. Is your aunt in pretty good shape health-wise?

On the other hand - you might feel a lot better after the move. Either way - I hope you can go to see a counsellor at the school; I am sure you don't need a parent's permission for that (I never did :) ).
