My babies are happy campers!!

I brought them some happy news yesterday.. Due to problems with my shoulder, I am not returning to work tomorrow. My Captain would rather me stay home and resolve the issure than come back and have problems and have to get off. Getting off for something like this is very involved and costly and even has to be reported to the Coast Guard and tons of paperwork is involved. I am being scheduled for a MRI and we will go from there depending on what it shows... if anything...X-ray showed nothing. I am tired of covering up the problem with anti inflamatory drugs only to have it come back soon as that coarse is run. It is time to find out what the problem and FIX it!!

My babies knew it was time for me to be leaving since I had my luggage drug out of the closet and was readying the house for my departure and they have been clinging to me more than usual. They are so sweet and miss me every bit as much as I miss them when I am gone. Soooo, I will be around a bit longer but hope I can get back to work soon!

I Have Been Having More Problems With My Back Which Forced Me To Retire Six Years Ago So I Know How Frustarting It Can Be To Be In Pain And Not Able To Do Those Things That You Used To Do So Easily Years Ago.
I Am Hoping That Its Temporary And Not Chronic.
Meanwhile You Get To Stay With Your Cats At Home. Thats A Win Win If You Are Covered By Insurance.

Thats one of the many benifits I have INSURANCE! Don't know just yet how much (if anything) that this will cost me for that MRI though.. Never had one before. They finally called and it is scheduled for first thing Friday morning. I am to be there at 8am...

This has bugged me this since the middle of April. I faked my way through the whole last trip with that shoulder and nobody noticed. I gave it time to heal on it's own, then tried treating it at home and not using it, nothing worked so it was time to go to the doctor. I tired 2 of their Rx's and it is time to get a better look and see what it is if anything..

MRI's are kind of neat, I have had them done. Here is my handy tip, which I don't know why people don't think to tell you before you go:

No metal on your upper body. Which means, as you are female, a "sports bra" - one with no metal hooks - is what you need to wear. If you do that, and leave your jewelry, watch and rings either at home, or in your purse, then you can A. not have to worry about valuables getting stolen during your MRI, and B. you won't have to change into one of those drafty and oh-so-attractive "hospital gowns."

I had MRIs done of my head, back before and after I had brain surgery, and it's loud, but afterwards I got to see my brain in slices and live to tell about it!

I'm so glad you are going to get it looked at. I hope they will be able to figure out what it is. One time I did what you did too, my wrist was giving me the most sharp pains all the time and I just hid the pain, finally months later I decided I should go cause it was just getting worse.

And I'm thankful I did because my doctor said any longer and I was close to getting carpeltunnel, luckily she gave me a wrist brace and slowly it got better:) Now its good...you know what's even funnier? I got it because I worked at Tim Horton's for 2 years stirring coffee:p

I'll be praying for ya that you'll be able to fix it:)

I'm sorry you're having all these problems with your shoulder. Pain meds are fine to help the pain. But the it is necessary to find out exactly what the problem is and fix it.

Karen's advice on the MRI is "right on". Laura, I do hope things will be fine and that you can find the source of your problem and "fix" it soon, without too much intervention.

Keep us posted and good luck tomorrow. I've had an MRI twice and I made it through just fine. I'm sure you will too. I now you didn't even express any concern, so that's even better!!!! :)

Laura, I'm sorry to hear about your shoulder:( and I hope that the MRI will help you know what's going on with it. Hopefully it's nothing serious and will be able to be fixed easily. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

I am not worried about the actual MRI, what I am worried about is if they don't see anything...If nothing shows up, what then? I love working and want to go back to work!! But BOTH arms, shoulders and a good grip are needed getting on and off those boats and there is no room for any pain... A sharp pain that makes you let go could cost you your life.. Getting on and off are the biggest danger I am in when I am out there. One cook was dropped in the river getting on her boat and it messed her up pretty bad. That is why I went on and reported this NOW... What has me alarmed is that since this has started, that shoulder pops a lot now when it never did before.

So, prayers for a easy fix for whatever it is would be nice! Thanks for all your concerns and well wishes!

Laura, I'm sorry to hear about your shoulder pain! I'm glad that you are getting it checked out though before it causes you more pain or an accident!!! Please update us when you find out anything! Enjoy your extra time with your babies!

Looking on the bright side, you get to give your babies extra loving.

I hope your MRI shows that it can be cured without surgery. At least you will know more than you do now.

My sister just had rotor cuff repair. The MRI cost $2090 before insurance reduction. Her surgery cost in excess of $10,000 and she still isn't right. And the therapy sessions were in addition to that. Fortunately, she has some insurance to help with the costs.

Maybe Moo will settle down before you have to go back to work. I'd sure give Clomicalm a try.
