I am really worried right now...with good reason

Well my friends I don't mind admitting it I am really scared right now I've an appointment with a skin specialist next Tuesday, I have some very suspicious looking moles or dots,one of which has been sore,so i did not waste any time and got into see a doctor straight away, I am so nervous about the outcome, i could not get into the hospital for four to six wks or privately for three months,but i know it is something to worry about as the Doctor put me in top priority and i got an appointment at both places within a week.

And you know i am very fair skinned and have never sunbaked and keep out of the sun,I am scottish by birth and have the skin to prove it ,infact i have never exposed this part to the sun ever, never worn bikinis,so my tum has never had sun exposure.,however NZ has the worst UV rays in the world i believe,so I have always been very careful.

My stress levels are particularly high right now, and I am trying not to think the worst, but i cannot help it, so please some positive thoughts will go a long way I am sure, I have seen the power of PT work miracles before,so I sure hope they can once again. Thanks.

I am sure it will be fine, but I like the fact the doctor is looking at this quickly. I use to lay in the sun alot in my younger years, and I had one on my arm. It didnt take much for them to take it off.
Surgery is scary. I have another one coming, but I also know- they do this every day, day after day, and it will be fine. Think the same thoughts- they do this every day, day after day and keep us posted.

Yep i am trying to think that way, but the other thoughts do enter one's mind what if???...... one never knows,just have to think positive and hope for the best eh? thanks for your kind words, PT is always a great place for me to share my burdens, off-load some of the stress and worry lol. ;)

Carole I can understand your concern. I am also fair-skinned (Irish descent) and I have had two areas of basal cell carcinoma removed. I too was not a sun worshipper in my younger years. I go periodically to my dermatologist to look for any moles that are changing, etc. I believe the real concern is for very dark moles or moles which change in size and shape. Nevertheless, the good thing is that you are getting this looked at. (((hugs))) and prayers for a good result and your peace of mind.

Most skin cancers are easily removed and not a big deal if caught early, so rest assured that you are doing the exact right thing, and everything will probably be okay. Even the surgery - though it has that scary "surgery" name tends not be as abig a deal these days as it used to be.

A friend of mine who grew up in South Carolina sun and then moved up here said to me once - it seems like they're removing so much skin from a nose, I ought to just tell 'em give me a whole new one, okay? But after a few weeks of bandaids, she was fine.

I am one of those "skin cancer poster children" myself - pale skin, blue eyes, blonde as a child, freckles, but I worry more about my Irish-heritage husband, who has dark hair but the fair skin and myriad freckles of his red-headed mom, brother and cousins. And so far, every spot I have made him have a doctor check has been just fine, nothing to worry about.

I am Irish too in past generations.. hmmm..

Thanks for trying to re-assure me, I have done my homework and research and I am pretty much clued up on everything,however the urgency I have been given does make me suspect the Doctor is concerned, I am not expecting it to just be nothing, but i sure hope so, if not I just have to hope I have got it early enough eh? My stomach is in knots right now and I am so nervous and the appointment is a little time away, i may now beable to go Tomorrow,just waiting to hear if a cancellation is available, fingers crossed, I need to know either way, the worry and waiting is just awful.

Good for you on being proactive and getting this taken care of as soon as possible. Removing suspicious moles is not really "surgery" per se - I've had many suspicious moles removed, all done in the doctor's office in the blink of an eye. It's virtually painless - they numb the area, a quick snip and you're done. I know our minds go to the "dark place" but just know you're doing the right thing and PT's prayers, thoughts and peeps will be right there with you.

I'm also very fair skinned and try to stay out of the sun but I'm of German descent. I've had about 3-4 suspicious looking moles removed but none of them were cancerous. I'm glad that you're having them checked out. Lots of prayers and positive thoughts are being sent your way.

Carole, I had some suspicious looking, shape changing things on my face and they, thankfully turned out to be nothing (cysts), Please try not to worry. I know it's hard. It sounds, as a precaution, the docs fit you in as soon as possible, which they will do. Basel cell skin cancer (my once sun worshipping aunt has quite a few) can be removed with no further problems. The good thing is that you're being checked out. I'll be thinking of you and keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the very best outcome..nothing

I'm saying a prayer that it's nothing serious. My Dad had skin cancer from sun exposure over the years. He had them removed by laser. I stopped sun worshipping years ago. I just can't take the heat anymore.

Good News, I am fine, yep you heard right, I am sure all your wonderful good thoughts ,prayers and good vibes helped tremendously, they sure uplifted my spirits and made me realise what a great place PT is and how lovely you all are, I don't even have to have anything removed,they are nothing at all and I guess my doctor was being cautious, which is good, she is a new doctor for me taking over from my old one, so I am pleased to find she is onto it,they have some weird long name, and some people have them ,others don't, they don't turn into cancer either,but they do resemble melanoma in appearance, which is why i was so darn petrified, and that is putting it mildly, by gosh it sure makes you look at life in a different light now, i am going to enjoy every darn minute of it I can believe me.

Only my hubby and mother knew my fears and about the appointment, i did not want to worry my son or sister needlessly, thank goodness i made that choice I text him yesterday and told him what happened and his response was so loving, and overwhelming, and he was fighting back the tears, I know he loves me and all but i never realised just how much until yesterday,it was a scare for us all, but I am so relieved and happy to tell you all the good news.

you betcha, and I promised myself if things were ok , i would indeed be doing just that, and I intend to keep that promise to myself and stop stressing the small stuff, yeah well i will try ,easier said than done, but sure gonna make an effort to do just that. :)

Yay! Glad they were nothing to worry about!

Me too, I don't want to go through that ever again in a hurry, the worst was waiting in the hospital, it was a busy clinic and i was the last patient, I was getting more anxious by the minute, but was hoping i was lucky last, and i was lol, anyhow onwards and upwards from now on, no more looking at the glass being half empty, i am going to be much more postive on my outlook from now on, things like this really does change ones perspective on things doesn't it? :)

The best part was coming home to my four furbabies and cuddling them to bits, they just love you unconditonally and thats what i love about them so much,they are of a great comfort in times like these don't you think? :)

Gini i wish i had not had to go through it either, especially for my husband and mother's sake ,they were very worried too, but in some ways it has really changed how i feel about life and that has been a good thing for me i think, funny how things that seem to negative can turn around and be a positive sometimes eh? thanks to all my super friends here on PT for all your well wishes, positive thoughts and kind words, it has meant the world to me..
