I rarely have someone open a door for me, but if someone holds a door open for me to get by I always say thank you. I also make it a point to open doors, or hold doors open if someone is right behind me. It's just good manners IMO.
I always say thank you - and it drives me absolutely bonkers when I hold the door for someone else and they don't!
When this happens I make a point to say "You're welcome" in a very polite voice. I don't mind pointing out that they were rude.Quote:

NO!!...........well unless Iīm in USA..........otherwise I say "Gracias" .......LOL which is the same........sory Iīm a dork and couldnīt help myself.........
Iīm always the one holding doors and the such, one thing I hate is when people stand right in front of you trying to go through and donīt say "excuse me".......I just wonīt move.......and I donīt care.......also when they walk like you have to be the one you moves as YOU are on THEIR way....oh no, donīt do that with me, īcause Iīll bump you HARD........LOL
I donīt know where somo peoples manners are, maybe they forgot at home or itīs laudry day but politeness will open more doors for you than rudeness.....
Not only do I say thank you, but I actually hurry a bit to get to the door. (sometimes they hold it while you are still somewhat far away.....I hate to make them wait) :o
I ALWAYS say Thank you...whether it be a good friend or a stranger..I always have.
I do the same thing :DQuote:

I've said "you're welcome" on several ocassions and I've also slammed the door on somebody (when there were 2 doors and a person didn't say "thank you" after I held open the 1st door - so I slammed the door in their face and it gave me much pleasure :D ).Quote:

I know what you mean - I've also held the door for people behind me to take the door, and they breeze right past me never touching the door. GRRR!Quote:

Good manners are extremely important to me, i was raised that way, and hopefully instilled it in my children, although the younger one needs reminding sometimes,it does not take much to say a please and thank you and it goes along way, hubby and i rescued a toddler the other day who was alone in the shopping mall and was starting to play with the escalator, he hurt his hand and we just got him in time, no mum to be found, we finally found her in a store, she had a handful of children, but not even a thank you was said, sure she was probably a bit upset but geez it would not have hurt to say thank you.
I don't like people who don't have good manners. I always say "please" and "thank you". :)
Its rare,, but when it does happen i always say thank you
I always say thank you or at least try to. I may have not said thank you once or twice and I feel ashamed when I don't. I rarley hold the door open for anyone unless they are close behind me because people never say "thank you" anymore.
Of course I do! That's just... the rudest thing ever if you don't
I always say thank you. It'd be pretty rude of me if someone was holding a door or something for me, and I just walked right past them without thanking them..
I always say thank you. =)
Thats what my mum taught me to do! ^__^
yes i say thank you..always :)
I always say thank you!! half the time I am the one holding the door!:)
I usualy dont say thank you..either cause im too shy or just forget.. :o
But I do try.
yes, and I alway hold doors open for people. Sometimes if I forget or if they're a bit too far behind me I walk away fast from the door so that it looks like they were too far behind me to hold it open. :o
I always open and hold doors for people and it's only curteous to thank the person. So, when the door is opened or held for me, I thank them.
A lot of people open doors for me or keep it open. From sweet elderly people who are so kind. I always say Thank you to them. I just think its rude that someone doesn't say anything like the door was open on its own.
of course!
Justin and I have been married for 6 years and he still ALWAYS opens doors for me, including the car door. I always say thank you.
I hardly ever get the chance to open or hold the door for someone else because Justin always always opens the door for me. He does open/hold it for others too and they usually thank him.
At first, I was like, "What? Of course!"...then, I read a few posts. :o
My manners (or lack of them) reflect on ME, not others. So, while I try to exhibit good manners at all times, when someone else doesn't- I don't get rude back. I have held doors for people that have 'forgotten' to thank me. So what? I am holding the door for them because of my upbringing, my manners. Not so that I am thanked in return. Same with greetings on the phone. I almost always say, "how are you" or some other polite greeting. Some people don't ask me the same thing. That's okay. I have manners, I help make the world a nicer place. They don't. Their shortcoming. Not mine. And, to point it out is rude, the very thing I am trying NOT to be.
Just imagine what it would be like if no one ever held the door for you - and no one ever said thank you for anything.
I hold doors for people - and when they are held for me, I always say thank you.
I think we can be an example to people who were never raised to know what manners are.
I love it when people are holding the door for me - John did it all the time. :) I do too, if people aren't too far behind, as I'm always in a hurry. ;)
What I really can't stand is when people jump a queue. It's unfortunately quite common in Denmark, especially by bus stops.
When I lived in England in 69, I wasn't really aware of the queue at bus stops, it seemed that people just stood around in no particular order, but I soon learned that there certainly was a queue!! ;) British people are so much more polite - if you accidentially bump into them on a busy street, THEY say "I'm sorry".
I always say thank you & smile. I was raised to say please & thank you, and I am stunned by how many people have no manners whatsoever. I also raised my sons to be polite, and was often stopped by strangers commenting on how polite they were as children. They still hold doors, allow others through first, help with packages, help lift strollers- I'm so proud of them!
yes. :)
Yes, I always say thank you.
I do, but I have an extremly quiet voice so most dont hear me and assume I am being rude lol
Someone always holds the door open for me. It's especially annoying when they hold it and I am a distance away because then I have to run. But I always say thank you.
Same here lol. Mine's not extremely quiet but it's quiet and sometimes hard to hear.Quote:

It's just been my school open evening and I held open the doors multiple times for one person I was guiding round, and let him go into classes and exhibits before I did. He never said anything close to thank you and looked at me as if I was dirt. He was so rude I wanted to see how far I could throw him through the glass window, but, as I was representing my school, I had to smile sweetly and continue opening doors from the good of my heart. Life bites sometimes. ;)
I was in a health club yesterday and I held a door for two "gentlemen" in their 50s. They didn't say thank you, they didn't even look at me. I was really tempted to say "you're welcome" http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/biggrin.gif
Same! The worst is when I open a door open for one of my teachers and they just walk past without saying a word... not even a smile! I mean some teachers will say thank you but most of them dont....Quote:

I'm usually the one that's holding open the door for others.
I say thank you to almost everyone that holds a door for me. 1/2 the time I'm telling (nagging) S.O. to just go through and let me follow.
