I clicked onto the link, but, page cannot be found!!!!!
 That looks so strange, like a mix with a dog and a goat.. lol
I can't believe those idiots at the ACO's and Wildlife offices were "too busy" to go and pick up a carcass. It could very well hold answers to some mysteries that have gone unexplained for years. This is a real learning experience they're passing up.
Think about it!!
To me.. it honestly just looks like a normal dog. :/
Maybe I'm not looking close enough?
sometimes the internet is like that National Enquirer Newspaper!!!!
Who knows, maybe it is "The Goat Killer" from the movie, American Grafitti.
Just my thoughts at the moment....My husband is too busy for a comment!!!
But, looking at that animal made me feel so sad.
It made me sad also. :( I didn't think he was so ugly did you?Quote:
But, looking at that animal made me feel so sad.
I think it looks like a dog too. I too was sad to see a dead animal. Even if it did kill, it wasn't "evil." It was just trying to stay alive.
But what kind of dog. it is definately a dog of some sort but what kind of mix. Like wolf/coyote or something lol. It's face is what throws me off. The body looks normal but that face is wierd. It DOES look like a goats face
Moosmom I agree. They made a big deal about that polar/grizzly bear lol Why not this? this is definately something a little unusual.
Never discount ignorance.
It is sad that they did not make an effort to examine the carcass, espcially as it was there long enough for photographers to come ...
Maybe a chow-chow/pitbull mix? It's hard to tell how big it was.
Rest in peace, black beastie.
Looks like a dog to me too.... Maybe they didn't capture it good with the camera or something???

it's the face not the body.

I was curious about this and looked at the pictures too and it just looks like a run of the mill mixed-breed dog to me. I've worked in a shelter and have seem some pretty strange mixes in my day, so this didn't seem odd to me at all. There are a lot of snub-nosed breeds of dogs, and mixed with something like a chow or some other equally thick-furred breed of dog could very well make a mix like this. Poor thing.
If it was such a mystery, these people should have been a little more quick on the up-take and made an effort to collect the body and examine it.
RIP beastie.
Remember good ol' Sam?

This face is pretty frightening, and he may not have looked like a typical dog, but he was...same thing with beastie. :o
It's a hoax, in my opinion.
It doesn't look evil. It looks like a doctored photo of a puppy, a man and a monkey, (or something.)
"A horrible stench" was mentioned in the article.
Yes, just like the Yeti. Another animal that has never been found.
"Wildlife Officials and Amimal control officers wouldn't go near it." Bull. Don't tell me no one would at least take a DNA sample, (a q-tip of saliva), from a dead animal to perhaps go down in history as the discoverer of an unknown genus!
Fox New Source so it's got to be true!!! :p
Well it's a fun story, but that's all it is. :D
It has been on wire services, Fox picked the story up from the wire. I'm not surprised ACO wouldn't do anything, they aren't exactly in a major population center. Looking at the results of their last town election, there were 221 voters. Not exactly a metropolis. The ACO is probably more concerned with their primary job, not coming otu to pick up an odd carcass. Wildlife officers in that neck of the woods normally have their hands full dealing with poachers (DO NOT run from a Maine game warden, you'll probably get shot).
Poor thing... :(
It looks like a dead dog (chow mix?) to me. :( :/
Good God! This picture scared the crap out of me! I wasn't expecting it! I'm going to have nightmares now! ;)

It looks like a dog on my block. The eyes look a little weird in the first pic but what else is so "evil" about it? Poor Dog:( RIP beastie.
that is one ugly dog
<br>
I saw that earlier...I think it looked like a plain dog too, maybe a chow/rott mix or something. If it had gotten hit by a car or it was sitting there for a little bit, it would look wierd..animal control should be the ones picking up roadkill too, so it's not just decaying there. I was surprised to read that it had sat there for a couple days after being discovered-and that no one had taken it for their own? People tend to do things like that.
Looks like a chow mix to me too, poor thing :(
That wasnt very nice.....Quote:

It has kind of a puppy face.
And they said they couldnt describe what it was cause the snout and ears didnt match or whatever. Well umm thats the joys of mixes they are MIXED and get different tributs of both dogs. These wildlife people sure are smart..
At the bottom of the article, it says it was eventually picked up and DNA tested to be a wolf/dog hybrid.
I don't think it looks evil and was a little shocked to read that so many were scared of him. I agree with whomever said the story had a yetti-esque quality. Poor guy, was probably feral and trying to survive the best he knew how.
They are now saying *bing*bing*bing* it was a chow mix -
http://morningsentinel.mainetoday.co.../3039522.shtml
Its a chupacabra. Wait, even more rare, its the last of the turnspit breed! It does fit the description for a turnspit and those legs look like it could turn a wheel. I see poodle in it, even in the skinny muzzle, though it should be longer. I don't see chow rottie or pittie.
I don't know about "how strange" it looked. YOU GET HIT BY A CAR and lay on the side of the road in the sweltering heat as you die - and we'll check out how contorted your facial expressions may be!!!
Also as someone mentioned, decomposition, rigomortis and swelling/bloating can change your otherwise appealing mug! But sad as the death may be, the idea of an unyet discovered genus or mystery beast is quite alluring.
I would seriously like to start a Yeti sighting somehwere near my hometown.
SERIOUSLY, I am not joking.
Get me a big ol' hairy suit. Make some gi-nourmous molded playtex feet coverings to strap onto my boots (so I can leave lots of footsprints in fresh mud to later be examined). Take giant strides so I leave prints that look like I'm a taller creature. Carry with me something like elephant poop (no maybe like horse poop - elephant poop would probably be kinda hard to readily find) and drop it around here and there (of course near my footprints). Find the craziest and most eccentric neighbor I know (one that already believes in UFOs, alien beings and crop circles - hey... that sounds like my Mother-in Law) and hang out in front of her kitchen window until I am absolutely sure "she has seen me".
The possibilities are endless. This would be good for the community! Bring people together, give them common interests and bring in tourism - boosting the economy. ALL GOOD THINGS....
Hey, I live less than 2 hrs from Roswell, I can send an alien your way -- but you're on your own for Elvis. ;)
As for the "horrible stench", perhaps the dog had gangrenous wounds.
Poor dog...I wouldn't be scared at all.
You wouldn't be afraid of a feral dog? I would.
I wouldn't be afraid of a dead feral dog! I do not have a very good sense of smell, so would have been able to stand the smell longer than others, likely. And yes, folks, things that are dead and have been lying in the sun? They do smell bad.
All I see is chow. It even has a purple tounge!
