i was taking pictures of the boys today, and yes i am going to share them tommorow or something, and when i was taking them of rupert, i somehow saw basset hound in him. do you think he is lab/basset or lab/basset/pit? or do you think its not so?

Could you post a full body picture of him?
Yes, I think the full body picture would be very helpful! Can't wait to see the pic of the cutie boy! ;)
actually from what I've seen of him he almost looks full show type lab!

I found this in one of her first threads.
Hmm his legs don't look that short. He looks like a Lab/Pittie or maybe even a Lab/Boxer to me...
I'd say mostly show type lab in him... possibly pittie. He's a stunning boy!
He looks 100% Lab.
definately not basset..his legs are too long. I agree with Kay..100% lab. :) although he could have some pit in him who knows. he's cute thats for sure! :)
Yeah...I'm not seeing the Bassett....at all. Looks pure Lab to me, hes even got the labby rudder tail!
Just looks like a well exercised lab to me.
Looks like a show labby to me too :)
I always thought Rupert was a chocolate Lab! =) he's handsome, and I don't see any Basset at all. He doesn't have the short legs, or the long nose.
Suki, are you sure those are Labs in the link you posted? I could've sworn they were black Rotties
ditto. they don't look like full labs to me.Quote:

Sort of off topic, but I was jsut looking at the link Suki posted and I can't believe what people are doing to Labs. It's awful. They do look like black Rotties in most aspects. There is absolutely no possible way those Labs could do what a Lab was intended to do.
i also see lab/pit...theres no mistaking those soulful pittie eyes :D
hes gorgeous by the way!!!
I see Lab & Chesapeake Bay Retriever in him, maybe some pitt too but not too much if any.
Actually I think they look like very well bred labs! :D I see labs just those in show rings everywhere.Quote:

I know, and that was my point. They'e very well bredd show Labs. I just think Labs are being bred to be way to short and stocky these days. Yes, they're still good looking dogs but in my opinion it isn't what a Lab should look like...some people like it, but I don't.Quote:

Really? You all think he's a pure Lab? I totally see pit in him.
I think his head is shaped an awful lot like a pits or boxers but the rest is definately lab-not too sure about basset though, his legs look a bit long but definately defined so again I am not sure.
He looks all lab to me.
I don't think he looks like a purebred lab, even less a show-bred one. His coat is much too thin, his tail too short and curved, his body not proportioned as a show lab's would be. I don't see bassett or pittie but I imagine there would have to be some smooth-coated dog in the mix to get his coat like that.
He doesn't look like a purebred Lab, looks like he's got Chessie in him. I don't see Pit.
The Labs in the link Suki posted are very well bred show Labs who could easily do field work. Those dogs are not at all over done. Want to see over done Labs? Go here: http://www.wigwaglabradors.com/ These dogs do field work, but they are way, way too overdone and don't look like Labs anymore. I bet they tire easily in the field.
His tail looks too thin to be full lab.. I don't see pit or basset at all. Roxy is a Pit/Boxer mix, and Rupert doesn't really look like either of the above. I always thought he was a full-blood lab though.
I think he might have some Chessie in him too. His head shape is more Chessie shaped- a wedge rather than square.

His expressive eyes seem to be more Chessie than Lab or Pit.

His ears are set a bit higher on his head- more like a Chessie than a Lab.

He also has a white spot on his chest which is very common in Chessies and is an acceptable trait.

His coloring is also typically Chessie- No black pigment, amber/yellow eyes. The yellow eyes are a disqual in the Lab standard. The only thing this guy seems to be missing is the wooly coat. So my guess is a Lab/Chessie mix. Often many hunters breed for this mix (Chesadors). They breed for the intense, rugged Chessie hunter, but want the very trainable, easy-going personality of a Lab.
Wow now that I look at those pictures it does look like he has alot of Chessie in him.
I agree with the chessie/lab theory.
