I don't know for sure, but I got Josie from a really low-end pet store. I didn't know it at the time however. But I'm pretty sure they are BYBs..or get the dogs from them atleast. A LOT of animals that come from that store get very sick and sometimes even die. When I got Josie, she used to vomit a lot for a long period of time (off and on). I eventually got a vet that did some tests (rather then say it was puppy flu) and she eventually got better. She now is dog aggressive and has epilipsy. I doubt that has anything to do with BYB? Anyway...it wouldn't suprise me if she was. I hate that store with a passion. I never regret buying Josie...but we spent a fortune on her...if I didn't have my dad to pay for it, I never could have kept her.

We got Maggie at 5 weeks old. My dad was doing a tree job for this guy and instead of paying full price for it, he threw in a puppy instead. Best deal ever! :D

We don't know much about Marty's past. His breeder brought him and met my mom and my adopted little sister's dad's girlfriend in a parking lot, were they bought him. He was a present to my little sister from her dad.

Roxie came from typical bybs who didn't call them Miniature Pinschers but instead Miniature Dobermans :rolleyes: She was for the most part taken care of but not bred properly. She was almost sold to a pet store that was later shut down because the puppies were dissapearing!

Alex lived his first 6 months in a puppy mill. Before we got him, he had never set foot out of his cage, he wasn't matted to bad because he was still young. But you could definitly tell he wasn't cared for! He was undersocialized and terrified of people, especially men! He is still scared of strangers but loves his family.

I'm not exactly sure of Ethan's situation... if they were breeding dogs there or not. But he was kept in a small crate in the same room with sixty or so dogs in the same situation, crates stacked ontop of each other. Ethan has obvious signs of being beaten and tramatized as a pup. Not to mention that when he was rescued, he was underweight. Even when we adopted him, they told us that he could still use a few more pounds on him. He was actually adopted a few times before we adopted him. It never worked out because no one was willing to go the extra mile to help him with some of his behavioral issues. Ethan's past has resulted in him being extremely sensitive to the volume and tone of your voice, and for a long time, if you'd reach to pet him, he'd act like you were going to hit him. He's also ended up being dog agressive to other dogs outside of the home. He's attempted to start countless fights with other dogs in the neighborhood, luckily we've always been there to hold him back and take him to a place where he can calm down. You can't forget how protective he is of the family, too.
Its hard to believe that only the first year of his life was spent in such a horrid home, yet it impacted him so much that he is the most sensitive dog I've ever met.
His story is more of abuse than of bad breeding.... so I might have just typed all of that for no reason. :o
Just for information's sake, yes temperament and things like epilepsy can be passed down through breeding so it's very possible those problems came from being a BYB dog. Only BYB and mills sell to pet stores so it's pretty safe bet that's where she came from. I'm glad you guys were able to help her.Quote:

Here is her story:
I was driving and found two eight to ten week old puppies sitting on the side of the high way... I took them to the vet immedietly. Luckily, they were not hurt. Hungry, Thirsty wet, and cold. The vet said from the looks of it they had been thrown out of a car. When I got home I put them in blankets and in my bed, and fed them and gave them water, naming them Daina and Tina. In the next couple of weeks I took them to the vet to get their shots and she told me they were Rottweiler/Mastiff. I certainly could not have two HUGE Mastiffs in my home, so I posted Tina on Petfinder. She found a home in a matter of days, and a week after she was at her new home. Daina is now 2 years old, and surpsringly not at all scared of cars or people. It may sound foolish, but I think it's best to get a dog from the pound because they are grateful for being saved, and they make the best because of that. That's Daina's story!

Rebel, my miniature dachshund born on July 4th 2002, was bred by my father, he's one of those people who thinks it's ok to breed your purebred dogs every now and again or when it just happens which is wrong. He doesn't do it for the money, I think he just thinks it's what you are supposed to do. I've discussed this many times with him to no avail until recently. I told him about all the facts I could but it didn't seem to phase him. I believe that he has finally realized how much it hurts me when he allows his dogs to breed. Rebel was born normal to the eye but as he got a little older you can see some of the signs of bad breeding.
Rebel has macular degeneration which is where his pupils appear to be "broken" or as if they are seperating. That's not the technical definition though. My vet says his vision is normal. Rebel was also cryptorchid but he's been neutered years ago. He also has hair loss on his chest which appears to be getting a little worse as he gets older. You can now see where his coat is thinning in other areas of his body such as his ears.
I wouldn't trade him for the world and I'm lucky that he doesn't have any major problems. I love my little man.

Both Molli and Sam came from bybs... who were acctually very good owners. They just weren't very educated about how there breeding adds to the population.
If you can't find any threads of my pups just let me know and I will post photos for you!
I don't know if it counts or not as I don't for sure if Raustyk came from a BYB or not, I rescued her from the shelter but from the looks of her, her many x-rays, her health, temperment etc... a bunch of vets, trainers & I are all almost possitive she came from a BYB.
I don't have much time now, and doubt I will for some time to come but I think you can still access my photos (can't you?). You can grab some from there & use them if you want.
Well judging by my dogs coloring id say he came from a BYB.. Poodles are supposed to be a solid color..
but he was in a good home... the lady was really nice and i seriously doubt he was abused or ever was in abusive situation before his owner got him.
still though,, it just blows my mind that she gave him up.

Conan came from a byb. He seemed to have no problems. Boy was I wrong...June18 2005 Conan had his first seizure. The vet said it was a fluke, they could not find ANYTHING wrong. So we were ok after that untill...Conan had another seizure in the night a couple weeks later. He was constantly having seizures; about 20 a night! He was sent to an emergancy vet clinic for some medication. The medication made him forget us. It took him over a week to become his normal self....WACKY AND LOVABLE! His medication worked until aug. 9 2005. He was sick, very sick, so my parents took him back to the vets. He stayed overnight. The next morning he had respitory faliure, but the vet revived him of that. A little bit later he went into cardiac arrest and died :( He died Aug. 10 05 at age 2. He would have been 3 next month. He was a Spunky dog...GREAT watch dog. I had plans to do SO amny things with him. We all were very depressed after his death and so was our other dog scamp. We are sad he is gone, but we were glad to have him for the wonderful time we did, and we know he suffers no more! He is in gods hands now! Now we know we are not going to buy from a byb. ADOPT A SHELTER PET!!! :D

Well Astra is from a BYB. We really wanted a play-mate for Molly, and recently when we went to the shelter, my mom had fallen in love with pure white Siberian Huskies. (We saw one at our local shelter but she was already adopted) So we started looking on the internet for Huskies available. We came across one breeder in San Antonio so we called, talked etc. We drove up there to pick up Astra. The lady showed us Astra's papers and everything else. so we drove all the way back home. Astra had some medical problems. She has allergies and she is underweight and small for her standard. When we first got her she also had some diarhea along with vomiting. A few weeks later we found out that Astra's papers were fake and that she wasn't a full bred Siberian Husky. We still don't know what she is mixed with or anything but we don't regret buying her for a moment.

Autumn is from a mill. I didn't see the mill but I'm told it was horrible. She has had a fear of cages since we got her. She had seperation anxiety. Thunder came from a awful pet store who makes there puppies stand on grids. At times they would have no water and get fed little food to share with all their litter mates. I know the awful truth about the pet store because I voulenteered there for a long time. I didnt know it then but I do now. They would hire young people and they would drop the puppies from high places. They never let the puppies out for exercise and constantly bathed them. Thunder is showing signs of beeing bred badly he's getting hip displaysia and bad artheristis wich is makiong it harder for him to get up and walk up the stairs. He's never had any problems as a puppy but as he's getting older the signs are starting to show. All because some jerk wanted money.

Both Molli and Sam are BYB puppies.
Sam's parents were purposely bred. Sam is one of the few surviving puppies out of his litter because the mom woulden't feed alot of his brothers and sisters. Sam has a very good temperment, concidering some BYB cockers sometimes have fear aggression. He has quite the little cocker personality!

Molli's parents were also purposely bred. The dad was a purebred Toy Poodle and the Mom was a mix. But in this case they were taken care of very well, and we got Molli at 7 1/2 weeks of age. Other then food agression, Molli has a great temperment, too.
