More good news about Puddy!

Dr. Lee called this morning to inquire about Puddy and he said that I can discontinue the appetite stimulant as long as she's eating well and that I can go to every 4th day w/the SQ fluids now. So, we've gone from every other day, to every 3rd day to every 4th day. He said his goal is to get her to once a week. He said that if she shows any sign of slowing down to call him immediately but he said "This is great news! Just great!" I told him that she's running around the house like a kitten and back to her hissy self and he was really happy about that.

Thanx so much for your prayers and support and just wanted to let you all know. We need encouraging news now and then.

I don't know that I'll ever be able to stop the SQ fluids entirely. But even if I had to go back to every other day, I would, stressful as that is on both of us. I can't bear the thought of not having her w/me and saying "Puddy, watch the house for Mommy!" every time I leave. When she was in the hospital, I got choked up and told Boo to watch the house while Puddy was sick. I feel positive about it all but I'm gonna watch her. I have to go out of town on business for 3 days next week, so I want to make sure she's doing ok. I don't want my cat sitter to have any drama to contend with.

I remember you would have to do SQs for life.. but doing that less now is still a positive smile! :)

I cut it back to once a day instead of twice and then I thought I'd better check w/Dr. Lee just to be safe. That's when he said to discontinue it entirely because it has valium in it, which makes her hungry but also tired. I haven't seen any evidence of her being tired, so he said to take her off it then. So, if she stops eating, it's back on, baby!

Glad to read she is doing so well. :)
I would buy the over-counter NutraCal stuff. You can get it at PetSmart. It's always handy to have when they arent feeling well and we need to know they are getting calories. :)
It does work to also promote them to eat. Worked on Cindy, Eleanor and Thumper.

Great news!

Yep, Nutrical.

And, don't underestimate the power of a cat. My Malfi was supposed to need steroids for life, and we went from 2 pills a day to 1 pill every two weeks.
And, recently, he was supposed to be early CRF, eventually needing fluids.
Now, his bloodwork is good and he is getting enough water, (he's not overly dehydrated for them to order fluids)

Come on Puddy, let's see how high you can bounce back!

Yep, Puddy is a tough gal, alright! She's mad at me right now, though. Whenever a furkid gets sick, I have them sleep in my room w/me so that I can check on things and give them comfort. So I hauled the litter box and food and water up two flights of stairs and didn't take them back down until I knew for sure that she was well enough to sleep w/the posse. Well, she may have been well enough but she wanted to still sleep w/Mom. I just don't want that to become habit; too many cats in this house and if I do it for one, I'll end up doing it w/all of them. I need my rest! So the last couple of nights, it's been a battle of wills, getting Puddy to sleep where she usually does. Last night she was the yowler instead of Creamsicle. But I stayed strong. :rolleyes: This morning she was so cute. When I said 'good morning' to everyone, she turned her head to the side as if to say "Tell it to the paw." She won't come to me either. :p She'll soften. I hope. :(

So glad to hear the good news about Puddy. Sound like she is a little miffed at you, LOL!! That is good, sounds like Puddy is feeling better!

For the first time in 12 years, Puddy sprayed. Right in front of me, too. I was so shocked that I called Dr. Lee. He thinks it's behavioral because I didn't let her sleep w/me. On the one hand, I'd rather it be behavioral, not illness that's causing her to spray. But on the other hand, this is Puddy! How in the world will I stop that? He said that the appetite stimulant has valium in it which helps w/that, so I may have to keep her on it. He said "She's ticked off at you. I mean, she's the Queen." Sounds funny in the telling but I can't have this. And she didn't even do it where all the fur posse hangs out in the sun room. She did it in the dining room where I could see her from my office. I can't believe how unnerved I am by all of this. This is just not Puddy. She has had accidents, squatting when she had a bladder infection. But she has never sprayed. Ever.
