Deuce is home.

I picked Deuce up this afternoon. He was very happy to see me. I got lots of kisses in the clinic. His back leg is a mess. He won't weight bear at all, except when he forgets and tried to jump up. Then he falls over rather quickly. It's pretty pathetic looking. He has two wounds on the injured leg. One big one and a smaller puncture up higher. There are drains in both of them. I hate drains!!! The smaller one can come out tomorrow, but the other one needs to be flushed for five days. I hate doing that. He isn't going to like it much either. He's on Cephalaxen for 10 days.

The biospy results will be back in ten days or so. My vet said he didn't have a clue what it was. I don't like the sound of that!

Deuce is happily resting in the arctic entry right now. He's not nearly has hyper as usual. I'm hoping I get him brushed while he's still calm. He's hungry and drinking lots. He's wagging his tail and seems happy to be home.

I'll keep you posted about his recovery and his biopsy results when they are back.

Wow, not knowing is pretty scary! So, y'all don't even know if it's an animal bite or anything? He was alone, though, huh? that's good that he was happy to see you! You couldn't have known what to expect. I'm glad he's home, though! I hate drains, too, my Bruno had them once, but, I didn't have to flush the wound, thank goodness. Good luck with helping him heal!

Oh, no. I know what caused the wounds on his leg. That was Raven. Well, she might have had a little help from Founder, but I doubt it.

My vet didn't know what the bump on his nose is from. He's had that lump since before he got here and we've tried several things to clear it up. None of them worked. So my vet said we should do a biopsy. It was booked for next week, but when this happened, it was done earlier. That way Deuce doesn't have to be knocked out twice. Rick, my vet, took a quick look at the tissue sample and in his exact words "I don't have a bloody clue what that is" . Don't like the sound of that! But it's being sent out to a specialist and we'll have an answer soon enough.

Ah, ok, I thought I read everything, but, I must have missed that. Sorry 'bout that. ;) And, I didn't know he had a bump on his nose, either, gee, I way behind! I hope everything comes back ok with the biopsy. Poor Deuce! Thanks for catchin' me up, though! :)

EDIT: ok, i went back and read, and, i guess I'd just forgotten that he wasn't in a pen on his own anymore, but, i think i was so concerned as soon as i read about his leg, i immediately hit "reply" and didn't even read about his nose. oops!

Poor Deuce. I hope he's a lot better soon. I've never had to deal with those drains and aren't really sure how they work. I'm sure they get messy! I'm glad he's home. He'll feel much more like getting well there. Hug him for me.

He's doing alright today. He's still very calm, for Deuce anyway. He's putting that foot down occasionally. He's rather frustrated as that leg is the one he stands on while he lifts the other to pee. It's funny watching him try to figure out how to pee from the other side! He won't let me touch the drains to flush them out. So I'm waiting til my hubby comes home. He can hold Deuce's head and keep him occupied while I flush the drains. The top one can come out tomorrow, but the one in the bigger wound needs to be flushed until at least Wednesday.

He slept in the porch and was very good. No noise and no messes this morning. He seems to like it in there. He even figured out how to chew a rawhide with his e-collar on. Right now he's outside in a tiny pen. I usually use it for harnessing up in, but it's the sick bay right now. Gives him a little room to walk around and get some fresh air. I have to go rig up a tarp so he can have some shade. He can't get in any of the doghouses with the conehead!

****I'll second Phred's suggestion-- I got one for Star and she doesn't look like she minds it at all- no more getting hung up on ever little thing! She'd broken 2 e-collars bumping into stuff in the kennel before.
