Sadie
Ok, I know I bug you guys all the time about the shelter dogs but we had such a happy story for Sadie that I just HAD to post it. Sadie is the german shepherd who I LOVE. I will miss her so much but it sounds like she will be WELL taken care of. Here's the email from our canine behaviorist regarding her adoption (YAY!)
Hey everyone! GREAT NEWS!!!!!! Sadie got adopted today to a GREAT family.
It is a husband and wife and a 7 year old son (that is GREAT with her) and
a 4 year old daughter. They have been looking for a dog for a while, but
every dog that they looked at, the 4 year old was afraid of. But, with
Sadie, she wasn't afraid and they just took to each other. And, when the
4-year old picked up a toy, Sadie didn't jump on her for it, she sat!
(Good job Blue BRATTs!!!!!!) She will be the only pet and someone is
almost always home. The father is a police officer and will be taking her
in for testing to be a narcotics dog. Whether or not she passes, she will
be their family pet as well. They were very impressed with how well
trained she was. They have an extra bedroom in the house that is unused
that they are designating for Sadie.
I couldn't be happier for Sadie! This is one of those stories that makes
EVERYTHING worthwhile. I am very proud of all of the volunteers that have
worked with her. This is what this program is all about. Great job!

OK, Aly. I've been doing so well, all day, and then I read about Sadie. Tears and all, what a wonderful story. I got my quarterly magazine from Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue yesterday, and say there and cried all night! My poor daughter is wondering what in the world is wrong with me!!!
Thanks so much for caring, and sharing Sadie's story.

I forgot to tell you guys about this other dog I'm in love with now. I know I'm like the boy who cried wolf except I'm the girl who cried DOG! But I REALLY do love them so much and I get so darn attached it kills me. This one is a shepherd/great dane mix and he is 95 lbs of pure love. He leans right in to you when you're standing up. I accidently stepped away from him to shut a gate that blew open and he tripped and almost fell! Also, he gets as much of his body as he possibly can on to my lap when I'm sitting down. If I say "ok boy get down!", he starts to whine and howl. Needless to say I end up spending massive amounts of time with him. His name is Benji but I don't think that name fits him at all.
I'll post a pic when we get one up.

Aly, you mentioned this newest "love of your life" being a 95 pound leaner. I remembered a posting many, many months ago about leaning. My girls are my first dogs ever to be leaners. Here's the link to the earlier post: http://petoftheday.com/talk/Forum2/HTML/000001.html

Thanks for the link Logan. I enjoyed reading those posts. With Benji, the leaning is absolute affection and not dominance. Almost every great dane I've met has insisted upon leaning right into me.
I just realized, all the german shepherds have been adopted out! Eeek, I could always have my Sadie fix because she was there for SO long. We also had a lot of GSD puppies in and out but now there are none. Off to Sue's house I go http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif

Come on over, Aly, but be prepared for lots of big slobbery kisses and many toys presented to you!!! Too bad you live so far away. Killian and Shiloh would love to meet you and I would, too!
